Caster (キャスター, Kyasutā?) is a Caster-class Servant able to be summoned by the Protagonist in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.

ProfileEdit

IdentityEdit

Caster's True Name is Charles Babbage (チャールズ・バベッジ, Chāruzu Babejji?), the King of Steam (蒸気王, Jōki-Ō?), a mathematician turned scientist from the 19th century who dreamed about the revolution of the world. He was known as a prodigious great scholar, employing a steam engine to invent the first computers in the world, the Difference Engine and the Analytical Engine.[2]

Although known as the father of the computer in modern times, he died halfway through his projects, leaving both machines uncompleted and having his envisioned future "vanish into the threshold of the eras."[2]

AppearanceEdit

PersonalityEdit

Caster possesses a strict personality, but displays a weakness towards innocent females and astute females.[2]

During life, he possessed a dream of a "possible future" that vanished with his death, but that future manifests with him in his current form.[2]

He wishes to use the Holy Grail for the "the advent of a world of steam civilization", but also feels that the modern world itself is not too bad after acquiring knowledge of it upon being summoned. He can be described as a "reliable ally" depending on the nature of his Master.[2]

Fate/Grand OrderEdit

London: The Death World in the City of Demonic FogEdit

Babbage is one of the three masterminds behind the "Project Demonic Fog", along with Paracelsus and Makiri Zolgen, all serving under Solomon. Babbage is actually one of the Servants summoned directly from the "Demonic Fog" that is created through the Holy Grail, though Hans Christian Andersen suspected that he might be a living person due to the distortion of the Singularity. He helps create the Massive Steam Engine, named Angrboda, that creates the "Demonic Fog" around London, by being powered by the Holy Grail. He also supplies the group with an army of robots, called Helter Skelters. These robots roam the streets of London and face Ritsuka's party, who, at one point, manage to temporarily disable the robots.

Thanks to Frankenstein's help, Ritsuka's party manage to track down Babbage's location and face him. As Babbage is confronted by the group, he is revealed to feel regret for his action and almost surrenders. However, he is suddenly manipulated through the Grail by Makiri Zolgen, causing Babbage to go on a rampage. He is defeated by the Protagonist's party, but before he disappears, he reveals that the "Demonic Fog" is being powered by a machine he built, that must be destroyed in order for London to be released from the fog.

E Pluribus Unum: Grand Battle of Legends in North AmericaEdit

The robots created by Thomas Edison are mentioned looking very similar to Babbage's.

Salomon: The Grand Time TempleEdit

Charles is amongst the "London" Singularity Servants to aid Chaldea against the Demon Gods Pillars.[3]

AbilitiesEdit

Upon manifesting as a Heroic Spirit, Caster has become an existence close in nature to his Noble Phantasm, the Reality Marble Dimension of Steam. Sublimating the future of which he dreamed, his body is wrapped in the "possible future" in a "form of grotesque steel" and concealed in the "form of a grotesque world." Constantly wrapped in a "grotesque steam engine-made full-body mechanical armor", the Mechanical Armor skill grants a rank up to the Strength and Endurance attributes and bestows "++" modifiers to three parameters by means of a boost function brought about by the armor.[2]
