Designer Baby (デザインベビー?) is a term that refers to a child created with artificially modified DNA.

The process by which Designer Babies are created can be compared to that of a homunculus, but they are still humans at the end of the process.[1] The process allows for the creation of a child bearing Magic Circuits even from parents possessing normal genetics.[2]
The technology existed as of the 2000s.[1] Within the World of Tsuki no Sango, Designer Babies are the primary way by which humans are born due to the decline of humanity. The babies possess various defects due to the "unwillingness of humanity to continue living" requiring various modifications for the children to even survive their birth.[3]

Within the world of EXTRA, Shinji and Julius (among others) are designer babies.
Contrary to what people often think, Leo is in fact not a designer baby.
