Elements (元素, Genso?) are the basic substances that shape the World and play an important role in Magecraft.

Classification[]

Depending on the teachings of Thaumaturgical Systems, one could classify everything of reality into different sets of Elements. The Four Classical Elements (Fire, Water, Earth and Wind) are said to came from ArcheWP in ancient Greece. The Mage's Association adds in Void (Ether) and some other Elements to make their classification more practical. Besides, there are the Five Elements in oriental philosophies (Water, Fire, Earth, Wood and Metal) and Twelve Constellations.[1]

Elemental Affinity[]

A Magus is normally good at manipulating at least one of the Elements. To identify which of Five Great Elements (五大元素, Godai Genso?) his Elemental Affinity is, he can use Consecration (聖別, Seibetsu?), the method composed of the use of sage, tarot cards and personality tests.[2][3]

Average One

The Average One: Wielder of Five Great Elements.

Some Magi possesses more than one Elemental Affinity and sometimes use them at the same time. Those capable of manipulating all the five Elements receive the title of Average One: Wielder of Five Great Elements (五大元素使い(アベレージ・ワン), Godai Genso Tsukai(Aberēji Wan)?) and are highly valued by the Mage’s Association. For Magi whose Affinities are their Origins, completely different from the above Elements, Magecrafts using any of the Five Great Elements are difficult to perform, ones with their unique Affinities in turn are so easy to handle that they can occasionally realize what is impossible with normal Magecrafts. Elemental Affinity only indicates what kind of Magecrafts a Magus is good at, not meaning he cannot at all use other Elements than his Affinity.[4]

It is possible to change one's Elemental Affinity,[4][5] but this is accompanied by a dramatic drop in magical ability.[4]

Five Great Elements[]

Fire (火, Hi?)
One of the Five Great Elements that has Warm and Dry features. It is well suited for destructive Magecrafts, symbolizing life and death.[4] In the Mage's Association, they call it normal.[27]
Paracelsus von Hohenheim assigned a red color to it following Tattva.[28]
Magi who have Fire and Water, the opposite Element, as their Affinities are few.[29]
Earth (地, Chi?)
One of the Five Great Elements that has Cold and Dry features. Kiritsugu Emiya applies it to "bind" things that he "severed".[4]
Paracelsus assigned a yellow color to it following Tattva.[28]
It is referred to as the essence of gemstones, when combined with Ether, the essence of Magecraft, any other elements can be extracted from jewels.[18]
Water (水, Mizu?)
One of the Five Great Elements that has Cold and Wet features. Both this and Wind are good at liquid manipulation and Kayneth El-Melloi Archibald can make poisonous gas harmless using both of them.[30]
Paracelsus assigned a silver color to it following Tattva.[28]
Wind (風, Kaze?)
One of the Five Great Elements that has Warm and Wet features. In the Mage's Association, they call it noble[27] probably because there are few number of users.[4]
Paracelsus assigned a blue color to it following Tattva.[28]
Void (空, ?)
Also known as Ether (エーテル, Ēteru?), it is one of the Five Great Elements. Ether is also called the Fifth Imaginary Factor (第五架空要素, Daigo Kakū Yōso?) according to the teachings of the Mage’s Association. It combines itself with any of the other four Elements in order to actualize the Mysteries of Thaumaturgy.[31]
Ether is the artificial Magical Energy that forms the basis of modern Magecraft, although it did not exist during the Age of Gods.[32] Although amorphous and incapable of materializing by its own power, it is what allows Spirits to take a material form. Paracelsus assigned a black-purple color to it following Tattva.[28]
The Ether Elemental Affinity is exceedingly rare, and in the hands of a high-ranking Magus can be used to interfere with the cornerstone of Magecraft, the Fifth Imaginary Factor Ether itself, and dismantle the Magecraft of another Magus. When combined with Earth, the essence of gemstones, any other elements can be extracted from jewels.[18]
Ether Clump (エーテル塊, Ēteru Kai?)
Ether Clump is a failed materialization attempt of Ether through the combination with one of other Elements.[31] Under normal circumstances Ether can only be materialized after combining itself with one of the other Elements. In some cases however, mainly when there is some sort of failure on the part of the Magus, it will take the physical shape of a clay-like substance. Somewhat related to the First Magic.[31]
Other than serving as a conductor of Magical Energy, it is completely useless. Whatever the shape it is given by a Magus, if left inactive for long enough (i.e. without Magical Energy running through it) it will eventually return to its original clay-like form. Known uses include True Assassin's Zabaniya,[33] the first suitcase puppet of Touko Aozaki, Cornelius Alba’s slime creatures,[34] and the main component forming Leysritt’s body.[35]

Imaginary Elements[]

There are two Imaginary Elements (架空元素, Kakū Genso?).[4]

Hollow (虚, Kyo?)
Also called Imaginary Numbers (虚数, Kyosū?), it is an Imaginary Element that gives its users access to Imaginary Number Space. Lainur Gusion used it as a time capsule[36] and Trisha Fellows put her head into it when killed to keep her killer from using her Mystic Eyes.[37]
When the Matou clan restraining spells are used along with this, it is possible to imprison and skewer the target into a separate dimension composed entirely of shadows. Furthermore, when Angra Mainyu's power is imbued on Sakura Matou, she is able to use this ability even against normal humans. It is a power highly effective against those made of Mysteries, such as Spiritual Beings, but not so potent against those who have physical bodies.[38]
Nothingness (無, Mu?)
In Magecraft, it is defined as that "which is not possible, but materializes", contrasting Hollow which is defined as that "which is possible but not in the physical plane". It has a different meaning than the "nothing" of physics and math.[4]

Known Factors[]

Human's Factors[]

Factors of human beings, the three essential Elements that compose a human body, are Body (肉体, Nikutai?), Mind (精神, Seishin?) and Soul (魂, Tamashii?).[39][40][41] Alchemists of Atlas can set all three Factors of theirs as an arithmetic unit to accelerate themselves.[42]

Ether[]

The Fifth Imaginary Factor (第五架空要素, Daigo Kakū Yōso?). See Void.

True Ether[]

True Ether (真エーテル, Shin Ēteru?), otherwise known as the Fifth True Theoretical Factor (第五真説要素, Daigo Shin Setsu Yōso?), is Magical Energy from the Age of Gods. It is also described to form the nine heavenly bodies that gave birth to the planet. Although it does not exist in modern times, True Ether, which was of a far higher quality than Ether, permeated the Earth in ancient times. Gods, as well as nature itself, were formed out of True Ether.[32]

The natural enemy of the Fifth Imaginary Factor (Ether), the bullets of Black Barrel, are composed of this substance.

Grain[]

Grain (ジン, Jin?), also called Space Dust (宇宙塵, Uchū Jin?), is the general term given to the toxic particles overflowing in the Earth of Over Count 1999, after the World lost its capacities to sustain life. Also called “Ether” because even though it's poisonous, it promoted the surface of mutated life forms: the A-Rays, Liners and the Ether Liners.[43]

The rate of energy transfer within the Grain-rich atmosphere is astonishing. A factor that resulted into the rise of a new method of combat that would not be possible in the old world. In a battle between A-Rays capable of absorbing Grain and Ether Liners wielding Knight Arms made of crystallized Grain, the power of conventional weapons is rendered useless.[43]

Supposedly, Grain is the base component of all heavenly bodies. Therefore, the closer the connection between a life form and its mother planet the greater the amount of Ether in their bodies. The greatest example of this would be the Ultimate One, the supreme existence of each respective planets and true avatars of their will.

Its antithesis is the True Ether or Black Barrel, which destroys Grain and anything containing Grain on contact.[44][45]

Daemons[]

The Sixth Imaginary Factor (第六架空要素, Dairoku Kakū Yōso?), also known as Daemon,[46] is a force that reacts to the desires of humans and births Daemons out of their wishes. It needs a form, invented by humans, similarly to how it happens to Heroic Spirits, in order to materialize itself, as a passive existence. This passive existence is an individual Daemon and not a True Daemon.[47]

But regardless of the result, as a rule, Daemons are gentle. They are the Imaginary Factor that understands one's pain and attempts to remove it. Depending on perspective, one can say that they are allies of humanity. They use Reality Marbles as their Alien Common Sense.[48]

The retinal cells of Medusa's Mystic Eyes are made of the Sixth Imaginary Factor called Ether.[49]

    Magus
    The everyday life of a magus is mostly spent conducting research. Magi who use magic outside of a research capacity, such as those who use magecraft to work and profit for themselves, are few in number. People who treat magecraft as a tool, such as assassins, are called “spellcasters,” and are looked down upon with disdain by the magical establishment.

    Furthermore, it is precisely because they are magi that few magi use magecraft in their daily lives. The cost of using magecraft for mundane tasks is indeed high, but above all, this is avoided for the purpose of concealing mysteries. The Magic Association is extremely wary of allowing knowledge of magecraft to reach the outside world, so magi who are overly conspicuous in the use of magecraft are purged.

    Magical families are essentially unilineal, in which one child inherits the parents’ assets and teachings in order to carry on the magecraft and research. These types of families are called magus lineages. Children other than the chosen heir may not even be told that their parents are magi. However, magic circuits are not wholly hereditary, and magi do not always produce children. In these cases, a child possessing magic circuits is adopted into the family. A major reason for the unilinealism of magecraft is that magic crests cannot be duplicated. The sole heir inherits all of the family’s magecraft.

    •Magic circuit
    Magic circuits are the pseudo nerves that a magus has inside himself. These are paths that generate magic energy and access the magic foundation engraved in the world. Magi make magic energy with the magic circuits and use the magic energy to run the magic foundation and thus put magery into effect. To do either of these, the magic circuits are necessary.

    As suggested by the description pseudo nerves, these are split into cores and lines joining these together and are spread throughout the body.

    The number of magic circuits are fixed at birth and the number won't increase by other than external factors.

    •Magic crest
    The product of stamping the anchored mystery that a magus had spent his entire life building up. Can be said to be mystical inheritance that defines the magus line as a magus line. While the inheritor is young, it is necessary to implant this little at a time while at the same time having the body adjust to the magic crest by medicine and rituals. The magic association also has technology for extracting just the magic crest from the body and storing it.

    •Magus alignment
    What determines what kind of attributes a magus' magic is going to be likely to have, or what kind of magic the magus is going to have good chemistry with, is going to be the element aligned with the magus.
    In addition to the five great elements of earth, water, fire, wind, and sky, there's the imaginary elements of Hollow and Nothing, for a number of seven.
    Some of the five elements will differ according to the school of magic. A famous one is a style in which the five great elements are formed from wood, fire, soil, metal,and water.
    Basically, one magus has one alignment, but sometimes there are magi with two alignments (like fire and earth, wind and water) and there are also those called "Average Ones" who have all the five great elements.

    Matou Sakura normally would have been a holder of the imaginary element of Emptiness. However, through her magic training, hers had been changed to the water alignment of the Matou line, so she couldn't exhibit her true talent.

    Five great elements Water The alignment that the Matou magi have had for generations. Matou exhibit the attribute of absorption and have passed it on. Sakura's alignment changed from Emptiness to water.
    Five great elements Fire The alignment of Tokiomi and also one of the two alignments of Kiritsugu. It is the symbol of life and death and has good chemistry with destructive magic.
    Five great elements Wind One of the two alignments of Kayneth Elmelloi Archibold. There are few magi with wind as an alignment
    Five great elements Sky An element which makes up celestial bodies that is newly added as a fifth element to the four great elements of earth, water, fire, and wind. This is, in other words, Ether.
    Imaginary Elements Hollow The alignment that Sakura was born with. Defined, in magery, as that "which is possible but is not in the physical plane". Also called imaginary numbers.
    Imaginary Elements Nothingness Like Hollow, the alignment of an imaginary element. In magery, defined as that "which is not possible, but materializes". Has a different meaning that the "nothing" of physics and math.

    •The absoluteness called Origin
    If alignment determines the root of one's magic, then even deeper than that, is the origin which determined the root of one's existence. The origin is not only for magi, but is the orientation that all things are born with and it's existence itself is thought absolutely necessary.
    Those magi with an origin that is strongly expressed outwardly are sometimes removed from the normal alignments and there are times that the origin itself becomes the alignment. Most of those magi exhibit their talents as extreme specialists.
    Because of that, it's said that they can reach higher grounds than normal magi.

    Shiroubw

    Shirou Emiya's origin is "Sword" and his alignment as a Magus is also "Sword". He is unable to use magic of the five great elements with precision because he doesn't have any of them as an alignment, but it does allow for the manifestation of "Unlimited Blade Works."


    •Noble Colors
    Of the alignments, wind is called "noble" and fire is "normal". By the way, the term "Noble Colors" is used to refer to special and innate things where he workings of the magic circuit are close to the movements of a celestial body (normally they're closer to the movements of the crust), and is innate and special.
    Noble Colors are often used to refer to mystic eyes, and Rider's petrifying mystic eyes are also a noble color.

    魔術師
    魔術師たちの日常は、 その大半が“研究”で 占められている。 研究以外で魔術を使う者は少 数派であり、 例えば魔術を使用して労働を行い、 その対価として賃金を得ている魔術師は少ない。 研究対象ではなく、 ツールとして魔術を使う者 (例えば魔術を使う暗殺者) は "魔術使い " と呼 ばれ、魔術師からは軽蔑の視線を向けられる。
    また、魔術師だからといって日常生活で魔術 を使う者は少ない。 日常の用を足す手段に魔術 はコストが高いということもあるが、 何より、 神秘の秘匿"のためである。 魔術協会は魔術 が世間に知られることを極端に戒めており、 目 立つ魔術の使い方をすると、 粛清される。
    魔術師は、基本的に親から子へと一子相伝で 自分たちの魔術と研究を受け継いでいく。 この ような家を "魔術師の家系”と呼ぶ。 後継者以 外の子には親が魔術師であることすらも教えな い。 ただし、魔術回路は100%遺伝する訳では なく、魔術師が子をなせないということもあり得 る。その場合、魔術回路を持つ子供を養子にし て家を存続させるのだ。 魔術が一子相伝である 理由は、魔術刻印が複製できないことが大きな 原因である。 選ばれた後継者ひとりだけが、そ の家のすべての魔術を受け継ぐことになる。

    •魔術回路
    魔術回路とは、魔術師が体内に持つ擬似神経 のことである。 主な機能はふたつ。 魔力の生成と、 世界に刻まれた魔術基盤にアクセスする路だ。 魔術師は魔術回路で魔力を作り、 魔力を使って 魔術基盤を動かすことで、魔術を行使する。 その どちらにも魔術回路は必要になる。
    擬似神経といわれる通り、核とそれをつなぐ ラインに分かれて体内に張り巡らされている。 魔術回路は生まれながらに本数が決まってお り、外的な要因以外で増えることはない。

    •魔術刻印
    魔術師が生涯をかけて鍛え上げ固定化した 神秘を刻印化したもの。 魔術師の家系を魔術 師の家系たらしめている、 魔術的な遺産とも いえる。 後継者が幼いうちから少しずつ時間を かけて移植していき、 同時に薬品や儀式で魔 術刻印に身体を徐々に慣らしていく必要がある。 魔術協会には肉体から魔術刻印だけを抜き 出して保存する技術も存在している。

    •魔術師の属性
    魔術師が使用する魔術がどのような特性を持 ちやすいか、魔術師がどのような魔術と相性が よいかを決定する 魔術師本人に属する要素。 地、水、火、 風 空の五大元素に、 架空元 素の虚と無を加えた7種がある。 五大元素は魔術 の流派によって一部種類が異なる。 有名なもの は、木、火、土、金、水で五大元素と成す流派。 基本的に魔術師はひとりがひとつの属性を持 つが、なかには二重属性と呼ばれるふたつの属性 (例えば火と土、水と風など) を持つ魔術師や、 五大元素属性すべてを併せ持つ"アベレージ・ワ ン"と呼ばれる魔術師も存在する。
    間桐桜は本来、 架空元素・虚の属性だった。しかし魔術 の訓練を通じて、 間桐家が属する水の属性に変えられてい たため、本来の才能を発揮できなかった。

    五大元素 遠坂時臣の属性であり、 衛宮切嗣の二重 火属性のひとつでもある。生命や死の象徴とさ れ、 破壊的な魔術との相性がよい。
    五大元素 ケイネス・エルメロイ・アーチボルトの二重 属性のひとつでもある。 風を属性とする魔術 師は人数が少なく、 希少な存在である。
    五大元素 地、水、火、 風の四大元素に、 天体を構 成する第5の元素として新たに加わった元素。 つまりはエーテルのことである。
    架空元素 間桐桜が生まれつき持っていた属性 魔術 においてはあり得るが、 物質界にないもの" と定義される。 虚数と呼ばれることもある。

    •起源という絶対
    属性が魔術の根本を規定する要素であれば、 それよりさらに深い、 存在の根本を規定する ものが起源だ。 起源は魔術師だけでなく、 あらゆる存在が持つ生まれ持った方向性であ り、存在そのものが不可分と考えられている。 "起源”が強く表に出ている魔術師は、時に 通常の属性から外れ、 起源そのものが属性と なっている場合がある。 そのような魔術師の多 くが、突出した専門家としての才能を発揮する。 それゆえに、一般的な魔術師よりも、より高 い境地へと達することができるとされている。

    Shiroubw

    衛宮士郎の起源は " 剣 " であり、 魔術師としての属 性も"剣"になる。 属性として五大元素を持たないため、 五大元素を使用する魔術が苦手。 その代わり、固有結 界”無限の剣製"を発現できる。


    •ノウブルとノーマル
    属性のうち、 風は"ノウブル"、 火はノーマル"と 呼ばれる。 ちなみに"ノウブルカラー"といった場 合、その魔術回路の働きが天体運営に近く(通常 は地殻流動に近い)、 先天的で特殊なものである ことを示す言葉になる。 ノウブルカラーは主に魔 眼を指して使われることが多く、ライダーの石化の 魔眼もノウブルカラーである。

    Forte [Name • Colloquial Term]
    A magus of the Association.
    A rare magus who experienced gruesome melees such as protecting Seal-Designed Magi and recovering grimoire.
    Forte favoured spells called Aero Strikes, and the sword acted as the magical staff.
    There were three orifices on the body of the sword, thus the sword was not quite fit for slashing. The purpose of the orifices was to generate sound. Slashing the sword generated a resonant effect, producing an invisible impact on the target.
    She looked like a blade-wielding swordsman, but this swordsman performed her swordplay hundreds of meters away from her opponent.
    The oldest daughter of a mage lineage of many generations. It seemed like she encountered Aozaki, who also shared the Wind Element, several times.

    フォルテ【名称·俗称】
    魔術協会に所属する魔術師。
    封印指定を受けた魔術師の保護、魔術書の奪還など、血なまぐさい実戦に生きる珍しい魔術師。
    空気打ち、と呼ばれる魔術を得意とし、その魔杖は剣そのものである。
    剣の刀身には三つの穴が空いており、およそ斬り合いに適した物ではない。穴は音を出すための物であり、剣を振ることによって共鳴を
    起こし、排除対象に不可視の衝撃を与える。
    その様は剣を振るう剣士そのものだが、この剣士は斬り合う相手とは何百メートルも離れた場所で剣を振るう訳である。
    何代も続いた魔術師の家系の長女。同じ風属性である蒼崎とは何度か顔を遭わせた程度らしい。

    Asheara Mystras [Person]
    One of the five who entered the Spiritual Tomb of Albion with Kurou, and who eventually ended up as one of Doctor Heartless’ students. Her elemental affinity is Water. Her specialty is Elemental Conversion Magecraft.
    As was stated during the story, she is the adopted daughter of Magdanel. The story of how she ended up being adopted is essentially as Magdanel explained. Of course, Magdanel decided to include her in the Albion Investigation team in order to get ahead of the other factions, but the idea of going out of his way to adopt her formally was simply because he took a liking to her way of life.
    She was not particularly unhappy with Kurou’s faint feelings for her. So, when Kurou entreated Magdanel for guidance, and he inevitably ended up making contact with Heartless, she also entered Heartless’ tutelage, trying numerous times to get him back on the right path.
    But in the end, all her efforts were for naught, and she ended up having to take his life herself. Perhaps she was the one most manipulated by the Clock Tower’s scheming
    “Hey, Kurou.”
    “What’s up?”
    “I don’t particularly dislike the underground, you know. It’s scary, but there is so much more to be gained than that.”
    One is left to wonder whether she remembers that conversation from long ago.

    アシェアラ・ミストラス【人名】
    クロウたちとともに霊墓アルビオンに挑み、やがてドクター・ハートレスの弟子となった五人のひとり。属性は水。元素変換魔術を得意とする。
    作中語られた通り、マグダネルの養女でもある。養女となった過程は、おおよそマグダネルが語った通り。もちろん、霊墓アルビオンの現役探索者を引き入れ、ほかの派閥に先んじようという考えはマグダネルにあったものの、わざわざ養女としたのはアシェアラという女の在り方が気に入ったからにほかならない。
    かつてのクロウには淡い想いを寄せられ、彼女もまた憎からず思っていた。だからこそ、クロウをマグダネルのもとに誘導しようとしたが、因果の必然か、彼はハートレスと接触してしまった。以後、彼女自身もハートレスの弟子となって、何度か軌道修正をしようとしたものの、すべて失敗。
    結局、クロウを殺さざるを得なくなってしまった。ある意味、時計塔の策謀に最も踊らされたのが彼女だったのかもしれない。

    Heartless [Person]
    Also known as Adashino Kurou.
    His elemental affinity was originally Earth, but was changed by his experience in the Land of the Fairies.
    In this work, he stands as the greatest rival of El-Melloi II. Or one could call him El-Melloi II’s shadow. While El-Melloi II could be characterized as one so lacking in talent he is always being saved by his students, Heartless can be characterized by one who is so peerless in ability that he was inevitably betrayed by his students.
    The magecraft he uses is wide and varied.
    The Faculty of Modern Magecraft didn’t have much in the way of family lines, and so worked to preserve numerous forms of magecraft of relatively shallow histories. Heartless’ area of study was each and every one of those. Though it is hard to say how much he was aware of it, due to a certain kind of time paradox, having lead the dual lives of Adashino Kurou and Heartless had a large influence on him.
    Adashino Kurou received all kinds of guidance from his future self, Heartless, causing his abilities to grow at an unprecedented rate. To those around him, it seemed like the pouring of water from one bottle into another, but there was nothing supernatural about it. In reality, his future self knew his own nature and thought process so well that he could provide the perfect teaching and guidance for him, thus transferring all of his skills.
    …in short, it was an homage to a certain Archer and his relationship with Emiya Shirou in the Fifth Holy Grail War.
    His ability to completely flip his heart was, as El-Melloi II recognized, not an ability so much as it was a defect. His heart, left behind in the Land of the Fairies, once connected to the body that was now like an empty shell, made a kind of pseudo-teleportation possible for him, an ability encroaching on the domain of True Magic. However, it was an act similar to inserting a scalpel into one’s heart and flipping it over.
    In the Rail Zeppelin incident, he casually opened his heart twice, but in reality his back was really up against the wall.
    He was the bearer of Mystic Eyes that could steal and take over the vision of others, the Mystic Eyes of the Usurper.
    Originally, they were similar to the Mystic Eyes of Finding, only able to find lost things that they were specifically paired with — rare to be sure, but all in all rather low level as far as Mystic Eyes are concerned. However, due to his time spent in the Land of the Fairies, they transformed into “Mystic Eyes that could steal even the vision from Mystic Eyes.”



    During the story, he spent ten years on his plan to turn the world of magecraft on its head.
    This was not because of some anger at Kurou’s friends among the survivors (or his four students, from Heartless’ perspective) betraying him. Having experienced that betrayal twice after jumping through time, he considered that situation to be “a simple result of karma.”
    Water flows from high to low. Things burned turn to ash.
    As such, if the system itself never changes, the same things will happen over and over for all eternity. That was why he left behind his position as head of the Faculty of Modern Magecraft and, using every method imaginable, sought to upend the world of magecraft known to the Clock Tower.
    In this case, the first thing he needed was information to overwhelm the other magi.
    Carefully picking his allies, he ended up joining forces with Lord Marisbury of the Faculty of Astrology, secretly orchestrating the Mystic Eye Bearer Serial Killings seven years prior. After acquiring numerous sets of Mystic Eyes by doing so, Heartless learned of the truth of the Holy Grail War that the Clock Tower failed to consider seriously, and at the same time decided to keep that information hidden.
    As a result, Marisbury also recognized that the Holy Grail War wouldn’t be able to satisfy his objectives, and he put an end to his own plans…but that is another story.
    At any rate, Heartless, knowing about the truth of the Fourth Holy Grail War and the existence of Servants, moved on to the next step of his plan. In short, through the use of the Divine Spirit Iskandar, the plan for the revival of the magecraft from the Age of Gods. The conspiracies of the Clock Tower were nothing more than scrabbling over Mysteries that were already in decline. So, it was better to return to the Age of Gods, where such intrigue was unnecessary, he thought.



    As an aside, his partnership with Faker was an enjoyable one for him.
    Within his life, where he had already predicted his own betrayal, the companionship of Faker who was raging at being betrayed by the Ionian Hetairoi was something he could accept without consideration. In most cases the relationship between Master and Servant is riddled with tension, but regardless of Faker’s opinion of Heartless, Heartless’ opinion of Faker was that he could rest assured in their partnership.
    Part of the reason much of the malice in Faker’s personality seemed to disappear in Grand Roll was no doubt because of Heartless’ attitude in that respect. Between the times of the Rail Zeppelin and Grand Roll incidents, the pair of them got involved in numerous incidents beyond the knowledge of El-Melloi II. Through it all, Heartless always seemed to be strangely enjoying himslf, an attitude that always brought a frown and a “what’s with this guy?” from Faker.
    In comparison to the rest of his unfortunate life, the last two months of his plan to upend the world of magecraft were, despite the tremendous upheavel, incredibly calm.

    ハートレス【人名】
    もしくは、化野九郎。
    属性は地だが、妖精郷を経たことで変質している。
    本編における、エルメロイII世の最大のライバル。もしくはII世の影。本人が才能を持たず、生徒たちに助けられたのがエルメロイII世なら、本人が無類の才能を持ち、それゆえに生徒たちに裏切られたのがハートレスという男だ。
    扱う魔術は多岐にわたる。
    当時の現代魔術科は、魔術についてあまり系統だっておらず、比較的歴史の浅い魔術を片端から保存していたのだが、ハートレスはこのことごとくを修めてのけたのだ。どこまで意識していたかは分からないが、ある種のタイムパラドックスを含む、化野九郎とハートレスの二重人生も大きな影響を与えただろう。
    ハートレスのもととなった化野九郎は自分の未来の姿であるハートレスから指導を受けることで、途轍もない速度で実力を伸ばしていった。周囲からは瓶水を移すようと思われていたが、なんのことはない。本当に未来の自分から、素質も思想も見きった完全に的確な指導によって、その能力のすべてを移譲されていたのだ。
    ……つまり、これは第五次聖杯戦争における、とあるアーチャーと衛宮士郎のオマージュなのである。
    心臓を裏返すという行為は、II世が看破していた通り、能力というよりは単なる欠陥である。妖精郷に置きっぱなしになっている彼の心臓と、いまや抜け殻になった彼の身体の内側をつなぐことで、魔法の域に近しい疑似転移を可能とするが、これは心臓にメスをいれて裏返すような行為なのだ。
    魔眼蒐集列車では、彼は涼しい顔で二度心臓を開いているが、実のところ最大のピンチはあのタイミングだった。
    視界を奪う、簒奪の魔眼の持ち主。
    本来、対になったものを探し出す失せ物探し程度の―――それなりに珍しいが、格は低い魔眼だった。しかし、これも妖精郷を経た結果、「魔眼の視界さえ奪う魔眼」へと変質してしまっている。



    作中では、十年をかけて、魔術世界をひっくり返そうと目論む。
    これはけして、化野九郎にとって仲間だった生還者たち(ハートレスにとって弟子だった四人)の裏切りに怒ったためではない。時間を越えて、ニ度同じ裏切りに立ち会ったことで、この事象を「単なる因果の帰結である」と、彼は捉えるようになった。
    水は高きより低きに流れる。炎で焼かれたものは灰となる。
    ならば、このシステム自体を変更しない限り、無限に同じことが起こる。だからこそ、ハートレスは現代魔術科の学部長を辞し、あらゆる手段を厭わず、時計塔による既存の魔術世界を転覆させようとした。
    この際、最初に必要となったのが、ほかの魔術師を圧倒する情報である。
    慎重に相手を選んだ結果、天体科の君主マリスビリーと手を組み、密かに七年前の魔眼保持者連続殺人事件を引き起こす。これによって多くの魔眼を得たハートレスは、時計塔では重視されてなかった聖杯戦争の真実を知り、同時にこれらの情報を隠匿することとなる。
    結果として、聖杯戦争では目的を達成しえないと知ったマリスビリーも、自身の計画を中止することとなるのだが……これはまた別の話である。
    いずれにせよ、サーヴァントの存在や第四次聖杯戦争の真実を知ったハートレスは、次の段階へと移行する。つまり、神霊イスカンダルによる、神代魔術復興計画である。時計塔がくだらない陰謀に明け暮れているのは、衰退していく神秘を取り合っているからだ。ならば、そんな必要のなかった神代の魔術を取り戻せば良い、と考えたのだ。



    余談だが、フェイカーとのコンビは、彼にとって愉快なものだった。
    常に裏切られることを予測していた彼の人生の中で、『王の軍勢』の裏切りに激怒していたフェイカーとの付き合いだけは、そんなことを考えずにすむ関係であったからだ。おおよそサーヴァントとマスターの関係というのは、どこか緊張感を孕んだものなのだが、フェイカーにとってのハートレスはともかく、ハートレスにとってのフェイカーは、ずっと安心できる相手だった。
    冠位決議のフェイカーがどこか毒気を抜かれたようだったのは、そんなハートレスの態度を見続けたからでもあったろう。魔眼蒐集列車から冠位決議までの間、エルメロイII世のあずかりしらぬところで、このコンビはいくつかの事件に遭遇しているが、そのたびに妙に楽しそうなハートレスを目撃して、「なんだこいつ」とフェィ力ーは眉をひそめていたのだった。
    彼の数奇な人生の中で、魔術世界を転覆させようとした最後のこのニケ月だけが、激動の内容にかかわらず、ひどく穩やかなものであった。

    Flat Escardos [Person]
    One half of the El-Melloi Classroom’s legendary duo.
    The blessed unwanted child. Or, more frankly, the idiot genius. Originally a character from Fate/strange Fake. For most of his lines, the author received assistance from his fellow writer, Narita Ryōgo. Though, Case Files and Fake have a number of key premises that are extremely different.
    His elemental affinity is Void.
    Normally, a magus is bound by what magecraft they specialize in. But in Flat’s case, he recklessly creates a new magical formula every time, and hardly ever relies on a preexisting magical Foundation. For this reason, he has the apparently glaring weakness of “being completely unable to use the same magecraft twice,” but he doesn’t care so much about that. Maybe that’s what it means to be a genius.
    In most cases, he uses one of the following incantations.
    Casting proactively: “Game Select” (“Interference, Start”) + “Game Over” (“Observation Complete”)
    Casting reactively: “Play Ball” (“Intervention, Start”) + “Game Set” (“Situation Resolved”)
    That being said, while the ruby text of “Game Select” may remain constant with each cast, the kanji are decided at the time of casting. This decision is based both on Flat’s whims at the time and any changes he wants to make to the spell’s formula through the meaning of the incantation.
    Though he may seem like an omnipotent cheat character, his hand-to-hand fighting ability is surprisingly zero. Or rather, negative. He fails out of every single self defense class. That is why even after Svin graduated, Flat was still unable to graduate from the El-Melloi Classroom. The scene of Svin coming back to the classroom and chastising Flat for still causing trouble for their professor has become a regular occurrence.
    “I’ll ask just in case. Why did you do a drop kick for self defense?”
    “Because it’s cool, Professor!!”
    “Alright, die then. There’s no way a drop kick would ever be considered in a realistic self defense scenario, you absolute idiot!”
    “But Professor, I believe he only failed due to his inexperience.”
    “…please, Miss, don’t encourage him.”

    フラット・エスカルドス【人名】
    エルメロイ教室の双璧。その片割れ。
    天恵の忌み児。もしくは率直に天才馬鹿とも。出典は『Fate/strange Fake』。セリフのほとんども同作者の成田良悟の監修を受けている。もっとも、事件簿とFakeではいくつか前提条件が大きく異なっているのだが。
    属性は空。
    本来、得意とする魔術に、魔術師は縛られる。しかし、フラットは毎回その場で魔術式をつくり、魔術基盤にほぼ頼らないという暴挙に出ている。このため、そもそも「まったく同じ魔術を二度使えない」などという弱点もあるのだが、本人は気にしたことなどない。天才とはそういうものかもしれない。
    多くの場合、呪文は以下の二通りにわかれる。「干渉開始」(主導の場合)+「観測完了」
    「介入開始」(受け身の場合)+「状況終熄」
    ただし、毎度一致するのはルビのゲームセレクトなどの方だけで、漢字についてはそのときの気分で変わる。このあたりはフラットの気まぐれと、魔術式の変化によって呪文に込める意味が変わるという双方の理由である。
    おおよそ万能のチートキャラにも思えるが、格闘センスについてはびっくりするほどゼロ。むしろマイナス。護身術の授業は毎度赤点。これがスヴィン卒業後も、フラットだけはエルメロイ教室を卒業できない理由で、しばしばOBとして訪れたスヴィンに、お前はいつまで先生に迷惑をかけるつもりだと説教される流れが定番となっている。「一応聞こうか。なぜ護身術でドロップキックをやった?」
    「はい教授!かっこいいからです!!」
    「よし死ね。実戦的な護身術でドロップキックなどという選択肢があるはずないだろうこの戯けが!」「あら、それはフラットが未熟だから失敗しただけですわ」
    「……レデイ、話がややこしくなるからやめてくれ」

    Flueger [Person]
    One of the invitees to Adra, the Castle of Separation. An Astrologer. His elemental affinity is Wind. His aria, "Lead me," is also from Astrology.
    Depending on the horoscope, he uses twelve knives marked for the twelve signs of the zodiac, and is able not only to predict the future but also to manipulate cause and effect within an extremely limited area. For example, things like creating a future where an opponent’s attack doesn’t hit.
    He was actually one of the survivors of the Spiritual Tomb of Albion, as described in Grand Roll. Though his reputation as a master-killer and labyrinth returnee were decided rather early, the details about the Spiritual Tomb of Albion underneath the Clock Tower were decided rather late, causing quite some issues for the author.

    フリューガー【人名】
    剥離城アドラの招待客のひとり。占星術師。属性は風。詠唱の「Lead me」も、占星術より。ホロスコープに応じて、黄道十二星座のナイフを使い分け、未来を占うばかりではなく極めて局所的ながら因果操作をやってのける。たとえば、相手の攻撃があたらない未来を引き寄せる---などである。
    実は霊墓アルビオンの生還者だったというのは、冠位決議で語られた通り。師父殺しと迷宮帰還者の設定は以前から決まっていたが、時計塔の地下迷宮である霊墓アルビオンの設定はかなり後でかたまったため、大いに作者が動揺したとか。

    Gray [Person]
    The hero(ine) of the story. The closest disciple of El-Melloi II.
    Taking the detective novel role of Watson, she was pretty much the first character designed for the series. Case Files changed dramatically over the course of its early development, but she alone survived the process mostly unchanged. “A girl who excelled as a gravekeeper, but was afraid of ghosts. And the Noble Phantasm she holds is King Arthur’s…” Such was her catch copy.
    While there was originally some distance between her and El-Melloi II, the decision to have their relationship gradually deepen was decided at the same time it was decided to make Case Files a series. Making El-Melloi II an important person for her, not as a romantic partner but as a teacher, was also decided at that time. She certainly came a long way since calling him nasty in the first volume.
    Furthermore, while El-Melloi II proposed that she was “likely a descendant of a distant relative of King Arthur” in the first volume, while that wasn’t just a handwave explanation at all, it would be more correct to say she belonged to a family which was imprinted with the essence of King Arthur. Gray’s family possessed the essence of King Arthur’s physical body, while the Corpse King had the essence of King Arthur’s spirit planted within it, sleeping until the time when the Corpse King should come.
    Ten years prior, her appearance suddenly transformed, at the same time that Saber (Artoria) was summoned in the Fourth Holy Grail War. At that time, in response to the awakening of that essence, Add’s personality also activated, but in exchange Gray lost her other friends. To the people of her hometown, she had become an object of worship. For that reason, when El-Melloi II was scared by seeing her face for the first time, she took an interest in him, deciding to accompany him.
    Gray most definitely doesn’t hate her current face. But, the idea of it changing scares her. Her lone friend is one that awoke due to her transformation. In that case, did that mean her existence had any value? Shouldn’t she just allow herself to completely become that past hero?
    And in the Grand Roll case, as the Servant Saber was summoned once more in the Far East, her body would transform once again.



    As a disciple, Gray is extremely devote.
    Though saying that, for someone used to the austere lifestyle of a gravekeeper, her current life feels rather lax to her. Being left entirely to her own devices when she wasn’t doing work for El-Melloi II, the first two months had her in a state of bewilderment. Of course she had effectively none of the basic knowledge expected of a magus, so her adaptation to the El-Melloi Classroom has been largely a result of cooperation from Flat and Reines. Svin was basically like that from the moment he first met her, so there was no cooperation there.
    “You’re always taking care of my brother, so isn’t there something we can do for you in return?”
    “Not really, but…”
    “But?”
    “If…if it’s okay, just for a little longer, if I could keep things like this…”
    Standing in front of the fireplace, with a sad smile, Reines suddenly offered her a new kind of sweet to try. Or something like that.
    By the way, as far as English spelling, her name could be spelled either “Gray” as in American English, or “Grey” as in British English, and I struggled for a time to decide which would be appropriate. Since she wasn’t born in either country, and I heard that “gray” is perceived in both countries as being halfway between black and white, while “grey” is a paler color, I decided on the American spelling (to emphasize being in the middle of black and white).

    グレイ【人名】
    本編のヒロイン(ヒーロー)。エルメロイII世の内弟子。
    探偵小説におけるワトソン役として、企画のほぼ最初に設定したキャラ。事件簿の企画は成立までに紆余曲折を経ているのだが、彼女だけはほぼ変わっていない。「最高の素質を持つ墓守でありながら、死霊を恐れる少女。そして彼女が持つ宝具はあのアーサー王の……」というキャッチコピーである。
    最初はII世に対して距離をおいているが、徐々に関係を深めていくという路線は、シリーズ化と同時に決定。II世を大切に想いつつも、恋愛関係とは趣を変えた師弟の絆という方向性もそのときに決まった。いけすかない師匠などと言っていた一巻から、実に遠くに来たものだ。
    なお、一巻でII世が「おそらくアーサー王の遠縁の末裔」と言ったのも、まったくのその場しのぎというわけではないが、本質としてはアーサー王の因子を埋め込まれた家系という方が近い。グレイの家系にはアーサー王の肉体の因子、地下の骸王には精神の因子が植え付けられてあり、骸王は来たるべきときまで眠りについていた。
    十年前、姿が急激に変化したというのは、つまり第四次聖杯戦争でセイバー(アルトリア)が召喚されたタイミングである。このとき、因子の目覚めに応じてアッドの人格も起動したわけだが、グレイはほかの友達を失ってしまった。故郷の人間たちにとって、彼女は崇拝の対象となってしまったのだ。このため、初めて変異した顔を恐れてくれたII世に興味を抱き、行動をともにすることとなる。
    グレイは、けして今の顔を嫌っているわけではない。ただ、変化が怖かった。唯一の友達であるアッドにしてからが、今の姿になったことで目覚めた存在である。ならば、自分という存在には価値があるのか。誰もが望む過去の英雄に成り果てるべきなのではないか。
    そして、冠位決議編において、もう一度極東でセイバーが召喚されたことで、彼女の体は新たな変化を迎える。



    内弟子としてのグレイは極めて献身的。
    といっても、墓守として抑制的な生活を送っていた彼女からすると、今の生活はかなりゆるいぐらいである。エルメロイII世の世話こそなにかと手間がかかるものの、ほかは自由にしてよいとのことで、最初のニヶ月ほどは戸惑いっぱなしだった。もちろん魔術師としての基礎知識はほとんどないので、今のエルメロイ教室に馴染めたのは、フラットやライネスの協力によるところが大きい。スヴィンは初対面からほぼすぐにああなったので、協力も何もなかった。
    「いつも兄の世話をしてもらってるが、君、何かわかりやすいおねだりはないのかい」
    「おねだり、というようなことはないのですが」
    「ないのですが?」
    「もしも……許されるなら、もう少しだけ、今のようにいられたなら」
    暖炉の前で、寂しそうに微笑した彼女に、ついライネスも新たなお菓子を勧めてしまったとか。
    ちなみに、英語表記については、アメリカで頻用される「Gray」とイギリスで頻用される「Grey」で迷ったが、彼女の出身がどちらでもないことと、両国でGrayは黒と白の中間だがGreyはもっと青みがかった色だと捉える人もいるという話から、Grayを採用した(中間というのを重視したため)。

    Heine Istari [Person]
    One of the invitees to Adra, the Castle of Separation.
    He has the double elemental affinity of Fire and Water. His specialty in magecraft is “Change.”
    For a human magus, he is in the strongest class of combat ability. A pure and noble “Knight.”
    Furthermore, as was mentioned in the Kadokawa paperback edition, he mentions that the title of knight wasn’t given to him by “her Highness the Queen.” His reasoning for the use of “Her Highness” rather than “Her Majesty” is that, “someone who is only a member of an earthly royal family isn’t qualified for the highest title.” A very magus-like sentiment. At any rate, he has a background in France, and the character of one who was once a member of the Holy Church.
    The fate he reached at the Castle of Separation could only be described as a result of coming up against the wrong opponent. An issue of compatibility, as is so often the case in Type Moon.
    Taking care of Rosalind up until the very moment of his death, his wish was entrusted to Seigen. Though ultimately Seigen was the culprit behind the Adra case…even so, there was no betraying the wish of that knight.

    ハイネ・イスタリ【人名】
    剥離城アドラの招待客のひとり。
    属性は火と水の二重。魔術の特性は流転。
    人間の魔術師としては、最強クラスの戦闘力の持ち主。高潔なる『騎士』。
    なお、角川文庫版では補足してあるが、女王閣下に騎士の称号を授かったわけではありませんからの一言は、さらっと女王を閣下呼ばわりすることで、「たかが俗世の王族に陛下なんて最大の尊称は使いませんよ」と魔術師らしいアピールをしたものであった。とにかく隙のない、フランス帰りかつ聖堂教会気質。
    そんな彼が剥離城アドラでああなったのは、ひとえに相手が悪かったとしか言えない。タイプムーンあるある相性問題である。
    死の間際までロザリンドを気にかけていた彼は、清玄に望みを託していた。結果からすれば、清玄こそが剥離城アドラの真犯人だったのだが……それでも、騎士の願いが裏切られることはなかった。

    Adashino Hishiri [Person]
    The snake of the Faculty of Law. Her elemental affinity is Water. Her specialty is Poison.
    In this story, she was El-Melloi II’s first rival. If Heartless is his Moriarty, then she is his Irene Adler. Though the chance of developing a romantic relationship with someone was never there for El-Melloi II.
    In reality, much of her life was shaped by her desire for revenge against her father. Heading into the depths of the Spiritual Tomb of Albion on his own, he abandoned his ex-wife and son entirely out of nowhere upon his return. Giving birth to her through his second wife, he died a coward. In order to prove the worthlessness of her father, she joined the family of Norwich before slipping into the Faculty of Law, the easiest route for a magus with no pressure from their own bloodline.
    As a result, she coincidentally received information from the Faculty of Law’s Information Division, and became strangely obsessed with a certain Doctor Heartless. She began pursuing him, thinking there was a possibility he was her long lost brother, Adashino Kurou.
    If El-Melloi II had “a first rate sense of being a magus but a second rate skill,” then Adashino was “a magus of first rate skill, but no sense of being one.” Though her nature is closer to that of a Spellcaster, her place in the Faculty of Law which has given up pursuit of the Root fit her perfectly.
    Though not explicitly stated within the work, her glasses are Mystic Eye Killers.
    Just as her brother Heartless (Adashino Kurou) once possessed, she bears Mystic Eyes of Finding. In her investigations, the reason Hishiri was able to reach such precise results so quickly was because of those eyes. Of course within the Faculty of Law they were of great use, but they were also used to help find her brother.
    As a bit of a digression, she has been entertaining herself greatly with the arrival of the new, plump, and somewhat out of place member of the Faculty of Law.

    化野菱理【人名】
    法政科の蛇。属性は水。特性は毒。
    本作品における、エルメロイII世最初のライバル。ハートレスをモリアーティとすればアイリーン・アドラー。もっとも恋愛関係に落ちるような隙間はまったくエルメロイII世にないのだが。
    実のところ、彼女の人生のかなりの部分は父への復譬でできあがっていた。勝手に霊墓アルビオンへと潜り、こともあろうに前妻と息子を捨てて、生還した父。後妻に自分を産ませて、腑抜けのまま亡くなった父。そんな父のすべてがくだらないと証明するため、彼女はノーリッジの養子になって法政科へ潜り込むという、家系の後押しがない魔術師からすればこれ以上ない王道ルートを辿った。
    その結果として、偶然法政科・情報部門のデータから、ドクター・ハートレスという奇妙にひっかかりを覚える人物に目をつけることとなり、ひょっとして生き別れの兄=化野九郎なのではという仮説を立てて、彼を追うようになっていった。
    II世が「魔術師としての目的意識は一流だが能力は二流」なら、化野は「能力的には一流だが魔術師としての目的意識はほぼ皆無」なキャラ。本質的にはむしろ魔術使いに近しいのだが、根源を目指そうとしない法政科は、彼女にとって良い居場所だった。
    作中記述されなかったが、かけている眼鏡は魔眼殺し。
    ハートレス―――兄である化野九郎がかつて持っていたのと同じ、失せ物探しの能力を持つ魔眼を保持している。事件において、菱理が的確なポイントに早期到着しているのは、おおよそこの魔眼のためだ。もちろん法政科で手柄を立てるにも大いに役立っているし、兄を探すのにも活用していた。
    余談だが、少し前から、あまり法政科の似合わないむっちりした後輩が入ってきて、実に楽しくちょっかいをかけているとか。

    Inorai Valueleta Atroholm [Person]
    Aozaki Touko’s teacher. Head of one of the Three Great Aristocratic Families, Valueleta. Lord of the Faculty of Creation, she was a Brand, a magus of the highest practical rank.
    As that consequently places her as the teacher of Araya Souren and a certain other individual, more care was taken in writing her for Case Files than any other character. That being said, when asked about her general image, the response that came back was. “Got it. I’ll leave it all up to you, Mr. Sanda.” The insane image Type Moon had garnered up to that point had just been reinforced. One could say that was the point the author came to terms with the fact that Case Files was going to be accelerated as a whole.
    She possesses a triple affinity for Earth, Water, and Wind. Her specialty is Sympathetic Magecraft. Though she only showed a brief look at her abilities in the series, she is especially skilled with magecraft using sand, and the small bag she carries around with her at all times can spill out an immeasurable amount of it. Within the series, Touko says something along the lines of “Please spare me one of your pictures at least.” That is because she knows full well what fate awaits those who are drawn in her sand pictures.



    In a manner of speaking, she is the idealized image of a magus. She navigates the political sphere as easily as she breathes, and progresses her research in magecraft as easily as she walks. The fact she strongly supported the Sealing Designation of her favorite pupil Touko is a simple manifestation of that nature. Thinking there were issues of greater importance that took precedence, such a conclusion was only natural for her, and so she didn’t hesitate for a moment in her decision. Feeling no sense of contradiction or conflict in her own character, she is like a mountain ascetic still entrenched in the ways of the world, a perfect and powerful woman.
    Personifying the concept that what the people of any given age loved was to be considered art, unlike many magi of her advanced age, she thoroughly enjoys brand new technologies, like her iPod and her personal computer. Though she as an air of approachability to anyone regardless of their relative standings, her total lack of any pretense has the terrifying effect of feeling like she can see through you right down to your very core.
    By nature, such pretense and complexity is necessary for humans.
    These are inventions created by humans so that society can move along unhindered, after all.
    For a member of one of the Three Great Aristocratic Families, removing that necessary element from everything is a suitable kind of monstrosity, don’t you think?
    Additionally, her name was given by Nasu Kinoko.
    As someone in a position of such enormous power in the Clock Tower, like putting the eyes in a Buddha, the author begged Nasu to be the one to name her.

    イノライ・バリュエレータ・アトロホルム【人名】
    蒼崎橙子の師。三大貴族バリュエレータの当主。創造科の君主にして、事実上の最高位・色位の魔術師。
    ひいては荒耶宗蓮や某リピートな魔術師の師にもなることから、おそらく事件簿執筆で最も構築に気を遣ったキャラ。というか、おおよそのイメージを伝えたところ、「分かった。三田さん好きに書いていいよ」と言われて、イカレてるなタイプムーンとの印象をさらに強くした。事件簿全体にアクセルが入ったのは、あそこで覚悟が決まったからと言ってもいい。
    地と水と風の三重属性。魔術の特性は類感。本編ではちょっとした小技にとどまったが、砂を使った魔術を得意としており、常に携帯している小袋からは無量とも思えるほどの砂を吐き出す。作中蒼崎橙子の「先生の絵だけはご勘弁を」というセリフがあるが、これは彼女の砂絵に描かれた者がどういう運命を辿るか、よく知っていたから。



    ある意味で、魔術師にとっての理想像。彼女は呼吸するように政治を行い、散歩するように魔術を研究しつづける。当時愛弟子であった橙子を封印指定として強く推薦したのも、そうした行為の一環に過ぎない。優先順位が上の事項だと考えて、それが理の当然であると思ったならば、彼女は欠片も躊躇しないからだ。そういう自分について矛盾も葛藤も感じないのだから、俗世にありながら仙人のごとく完成した女傑である。
    その時代の人々に愛されるものこそが芸術という創造科の思想を体現し、老齢の魔術師には珍しく、iPodやパソコンなど最新技術を大いに楽しむ。立場にかかわらず話しやすいようにも思えるが、逆を言えば、あらゆる体裁を剥いで、本質を見極めてくる恐ろしい相手である。
    本来、人間には体裁も葛藤も必要。
    これらは社会を円滑に営むため、人間がつくりだした発明だからだ。
    そうした要素を取り除いてしまった彼女は、三大貴族にふさわしい怪物といえるだろう。
    なお、命名は奈須きのこ。
    時計塔の重要なポジションであるため、仏に目を入れるように、彼女の命名だけはどうしてもお願いしたいと頼んだのであった。

You really are exactly what you seem like, aren’t you? She’s a bibliomaniac, and according to rumor she searched for the library of Ivan the Thunder Emperor.
    Her skill is definitely first-rate, but regretfully, she was easily subdued by Semiramis’ poison. The relatives of the Red Masters, excluding Shishigou and Shirou, make a stealthy appearance in “Fate/strange Fake” (Author: Ryohgo Narita, from Dengeki Bunko).
    Well, things ended in massive failure for them in various ways, so even after being freed their positions have become precarious.

    The most elegant (hyena) in the world.
    Daughter of the illustrious Edelfelt family of Finland. For each incident it was planned for one guest from other Type Moon works to be included, and though it was decided (by the author) in the same way to include her, she was the celebrated first guest.
    Her elemental affinity is Earth. Unlike the Red Devil that is fated to come some day, she is not an Average One with an affinity for all five elements, but her ability to unleash a wide variety of magecraft through the use of a plethora of gems gives her a level of skill that is not at all inferior.
    Apparently having little interest in the Clock Tower’s own ranking system, though she turns up for the El-Melloi Classroom and the Faculty of Mineralogy, she has no particular enthusiasm for the Clock Tower’s other political games.
    For a girl who travels from her home base in Finland, plundering secrets and Mystic Codes from magi around the world, the internal conflict of the Clock Tower seems like little more than a storm in a teacup.
    “Though I recognize authority and history, they are by no means absolute.”
    Rather, she would likely adore a gentleman she could respect from among the Lords and Nobility. As such, Luvia has a deep-seated desire to support someone she can respect. To write it in a way players of CCC would understand, in short, SG1.
    Though her too-perfect ringlets are entirely proof of her status as a tsundere, the dere side of her character has yet to make an appearance in Case Files. A tsundere isn’t made up of just one person, after all.
    The Edelfelt family are a rarity among magus families, taking the name of Scales in that they produce a pair of twins in each generation that both become magi. As such, of course, Luvia has a younger twin sister. As the complete polar opposite of Luvia, she is an introvert with an elemental affinity of Fire. Her marriage has already been arranged, and it is a thing of mutual love.
    In addition, though it never came up in the story as it wasn’t particularly relevant, the Command Spell used at the end of Grand Roll was actually one that should have been entrusted to the overseer of the Holy Grail War. In short, it was one secretly carried back to their home country by Luvia’s ancestor, who participated in the Third Holy Grail War.

    ルヴィアゼリッタ・エーデルフェルト【人名】
    世界で最も優美(なハイエナ)。
    フィンランドの名家エーデルフェルトのご令嬢。ひとつの事件にひとりずつはタイプムーン世界からゲストを登場させるというのが、企画時に(著者の)決めた仕様だったが、記念すべき初ゲストである。
    属性は地。いずれ来たるあかいあくまと異なり、五大元素すベての属性を持つアベレージワンではないが、多種多様な宝石を使いこなす魔術の冴えは勝るとも劣らない。
    時計塔の階位にはさほど興味がないらしく、エルメロイ教室と鉱石科には顔を出しているものの、それ以上の権力抗争などにはさほど熱心ではない。
    フィンランドに本拠をおき、各地の魔術師たちと争って多くの秘伝や礼装を収奪してきた彼女からすれば、時計塔の中の抗争はコップの中の嵐にしか思えないのだった。
    「権威も歴史も認めますが、私にとって絶対的なものではありません」
    逆に、君主や貴族の中に尊敬できる紳士がいれば心酔するだろう。これで、ルヴィアは尊敬できる相手にべったり仕えたい欲望がある。CCCのプレイヤーに分かるように書けば、つまりSG1。
    見事すぎる縦ロールはツンデレとして完成した証だが、デレの対象は事件簿の本編ではまだやってこない。ツンデレはひとりだけでは成り立たないのだった。
    エーデルフェルト家は天秤と称され、魔術師の家系には珍しく、代々双子の両方が魔術師となるのだが、もちろんルヴィアにも双子の妹がいる。こちらはルヴィアとは正反対に引っ込み思案な少女で、属性は火。すでに許嫁も決まっていて相思相愛とのこと。
    なお、本編では特に関係ない話のため記述されなかったが、冠位決議ラストで使われた令呪は、本来聖杯戦争の監督役である聖堂教会に預託すべきもの。つまり、第三次聖杯戦争に参加したルヴィアの先祖は、アレをアレしてだまくらかし、令呪一画を本国に持ち帰ったのであった。

    Orlocke Caesermund [Person]
    One of the invitees to Adra, the Castle of Separation. A user of Butterfly Magecraft. His elemental affinity is Wind.
    Though he first appeared with the impression of a last boss, he ended up showing a rather good-natured side to El-Melloi II, and so ended up like that. His unexpected adaptability and understanding of Modern Magecraft likely stems from his distance from the political games of the Clock Tower, allowing him to judge based on merit alone.
    As a magus capable of reaching the rank of Brand, he nevertheless found himself drowned in love.
    Instigated by Geryon himself, Orlocke came to have a relationship with Geryon’s wife. Born from that affair, Granid Ashbourne was genetically Orlocke’s son.
    The boy he ended up engraving his Magic Crest and personality on to at the end of the story was named Shanon. Perhaps that was the name Orlocke had intended to give to his own child someday…
    Perhaps the sickness that struck down Orlocke was the same that claimed the lives of Geryon’s wife and son…
    And perhaps all of that was part of Geryon’s plan from the beginning.
    For now, it all remains a mystery.
    But, his incantation of “Perform a dance” is something El-Melloi II will never forget.

    剥離城アドラの招待客のひとり。蝶魔術の使い手。属性は風。
    いかにもラスボス然として現れながら、エルメロイII世には意外と好々爺とした面を見せつけ、そのままに逝った老人。現代魔術に対しても意外な順応性と理解を示していたのは、彼が時計塔の権力抗争からは離れており、純粋に価値だけを判断できる立場だったからだろう。
    色位にも届こうという高位の魔術師でありながら、恋に溺れた男。
    ゲリュオンにそそのかされ、彼の妻を抱いてしまう。後に生まれたグラニド・アッシュボーンは、遺伝的には彼の息子ということになる。最終的に魔術刻印と人格を移植させた器の少年はシャノンという。はたして、その名は、オルロックが自らの子供につけようとしていたものだったかどうか……。
    また、オルロックの倒れた病というのが、ゲリュオンの妻やグラニドの罹患した死病と同じものであったのかどうか―――それがゲリュオンの細工であったかどうかも含めて、これも謎のままである。
    ただ、「Perform a dance」と祈るような彼の呪文を、II世はずっと忘れることはなかった。

    A true joy-seeker of a girl. Her elemental affinity is Water.
    Adopted sister of the previous Lord El-Melloi, Kayneth El-Melloi Archibald.
    To be accurate, if going by blood relations, she is Kayneth’s niece. Her mother, being particularly average in her talent as a magus, married into the Archisorte branch family instead of taking her own family’s name, where she had a number of children.
    Following Kayneth’s death, the El-Melloi family fell into a state of great internal discord. As a result, just as described in the story, Reines became the successor after it was determined she happened to have the best affinity for the Source Crest. At that time, in order to put a rest to the strife between the Archisorte and Archibald families and demonstrate her right to succession, she accepted adoption into Kayneth’s family. Though, as a continued act of defiance, she still operates under the name Archisorte.
    After the events of Case Files, she finally learns to control her Mystic Eyes specialized in precision analysis, and under the tutelage of El-Melloi II, continues to grow her own abilities well in the research field. In the same way she gave a personality to Trimmau, her practical ability to “layer her own magecraft over that of another” is a truly fitting achievement for the El-Melloi name.



    Though it’s not demonstrated so clearly in the story, her political maneuvering is vicious. For example, remember how her first meeting with Waver was after she abducted him. The fact she is used to doing such things is a demonstration of her political style.
    “There’s no way I would dislike Reines.”
    That’s why, despite learning of the numerous conspiracies occurring in the Clock Tower, when Gray said those words to her, it must have been deeply relieving for her.
    If one wonders where she learned to be so ruthless in her political dealings and the exercising of her authority, that was influenced greatly by the support she received from a certain butler. During the span of Case Files, however, he was not present, and thus did not appear in the story.

    ライネス・エルメロイ・アーチゾルテ【人名】
    愉悦系少女。属性は水。
    先代のロード・エルメ口イ-ケイネス・エルメロイ・アーチボルトの義妹。
    もっとも、実際の血縁としてはケイネスの姪にあたる。彼女の母は魔術師としての才能は平凡だったため、家名を受け継ぐことなく、分家であるアーチゾルテに嫁ぎ何人かの子をもうけていたのだが、ケイネスが死んだことからエルメロイ派は激しい内紛に陥った。
    結果として、たまたま源流刻印との適性が高かったライネスが継承者となったのは本編の通り。この際、アーチゾルテとアーチボルトの諍いをおさめ、正当な継承権を示すため、ライネスはケイネスの義妹におさまった。もっとも、ささやかな抵抗として、今でも彼女はアーチゾルテ姓を名乗ってるのだが。
    事件簿の話が終わった後、精密分析を得意とする魔眼をようやっと制御できるようになり、エルメロイII世の指導もあって、研究畑でめきめき実力を伸ばすこととなる。トリムマウに人格を付与したように、「他人の魔術の上に魔術を重ねる」といった応用技術で、エルメロイにふさわしい功績を打ち立てる。



    本編では描写されてないものもあるが、政治活動はかなり悪辣。そもそもウェイバーとの初めての出会いが、誘拐したところからスタートというあたりで察してほしい。あの慣れた手際は、つまりそういうことなのである。
    「拙が、ライネスを嫌うはずがありません」
    だからこそ、時計塔のさまざまな陰謀を知っても、グレイがそう言ってくれたことが、どれほど彼女を安心させたか。
    なお、彼女がどうしてかような悪辣な手段を覚え、権力を握るに至ったかというと、とある事情で彼女に仕えることとなった執事の存在が大きいのだが、事件簿の頃には彼女のもとを離れていて未登場。

    Svin Glascheit [Person]
    One half of the El-Melloi Classroom’s legendary duo.
    His elemental affinity is Fire, but it’s been somewhat changed. His specialty in magecraft is Regression.
    Many believed that if it were not for Flat, he would be an entirely ordinary person, but with Gray’s arrival that illusion was put to rest. The incident that made the El-Melloi Classroom aware that their title of legendary pair extended to their weirdness was one month before the Adra incident.
    Magecraft that borrows the abilities of animals exists all over the world, but the Glascheit family’s strain of magecraft is rather eccentric. It functions not by drawing out a powerful bestial nature, but by transforming oneself wholesale into an animal. Nerves, muscles, bones, and even the cerebrum are rebuilt in a process rivaling the theoretically extinct werewolves.
    Speaking from the conclusion, rather than a magus, it would be more accurate to describe Svin Glascheit as a vessel for magecraft. That was why he became so captivated by Gray, who was similarly created to be a vessel for a past hero.
    This is, in a certain sense, similar to Karabo, who was constantly being overtaken by the memories of others due to his Mystic Eyes. Having managed to overcome this unique facet of his nature, if Svin had come to meet Karabo at some point, perhaps he could have given him some advice.
    Within the story, Svin acquired the rank of Pride. This is not just an acknowledgement of his personal abilities, but Svin himself, who was the crystallization of the Glascheit family’s research, was also taken into consideration. On top of that, having achieved the rank in his teens is a feat rarely seen in the Clock Tower, so it was understandable for El-Melloi II to be struck by such deep feelings on that occasion.

    スヴィン・グラシュエート【人名】
    エルメロイ教室の双璧の片割れ。
    属性は火だが、やや変質。魔術の特性は回帰。フラットさえいなければまともなのに、と以前は思われていたが、グレイがやってきたことによって、その幻想は失墜。やはり双璧は変態度においても双璧であった、とエルメロイ教室のみんなに実感させた事件が起きたのは、剥離城アドラの一ヶ月前である。
    何らかの形で獣の能力を借り受ける魔術は世界中に存在するが、グラシュエート家のそれはいっそ偏執的と言っても差し支えないものだった。獣の優れた形質を引用する―――というのではなく、自らをまるごと獣へと変容させてしまう魔術。神経も筋肉も骨格も、大脳すらつくりかえてしまうその魔術は、もはやほぼ絶滅したはずの人狼にすら匹敵する。
    結論から言えば、スヴィン・グラシュエートは魔術師というより、魔術そのものの器といった方が正しい。だからこそ、自分と同じように、過去の英雄の器としてつくられたグレイに惹かれたのであった。
    これはある意味、魔眼によって、常に他人の記憶に乗っ取られ続けるカラボーと同質の葛藤である。特異な才能を持ち、この性質を乗りこなしていたスヴィンなら、もしもカラボーと出会っていれば、何らかのアドバイスができたかもしれない。
    作中にて、第三階位・典位に至っているが、これは単に彼個人の能力が認められただけではなく、グラシュエートの家系と、その研究の結晶である彼の身体が加味されたものである。その上で十代での典位は滅多にあるものではなく、II世がようやくここに……と感慨にふけったのも当然のことだろう。

    Ether is bound to become one of Earth, Water, Fire and Wind, but in the hands of a novice, it would fail to become one of the Four Elements and materialize. This is ether lump.
    Ether lump is completely useless. In some sense, creating ether lump is analogous to creating "Nothingness". Looking at it from this perspective makes it sound like "True Magic" In fact, ether lump is originally the First Magic's ----------

    Legend
    The legend of the "Old Man of the Mountain" appeared even in The Travels of Marco Polo. He was the head of an order of assassins who sought out promising young candidates and recruited them with promises of food, drink, and women, in exchange for assassinating important figures.
    This legend had its origins in the 11th century. It originated with Nizari subbranch of Ismāʿīlism, a branch of Shia Islam. They were known as a radical sect. The progenitor of the Nizari was Hassan-i Sabbāh himself. Hassan, who had deep connections to the fallen Fatimid Caliphate, opposed the great Seljuq dynasty, repeatedly assaulting it with war and assassination. The tales of the "assassin order" in later centuries were based on this historical truth.
    In the world of Fate/stay night, the name Hassan-i Sabbāh was a title among the Nizari people, whose heir would remove his or her nose and skin to become a faceless person. It is believed that the origin of the term "assassin" is either Hassan's name, or the hashish that he used as a brainwashing drug. Hassan's summoning catalyst is the Assassin class itself. For this reason, a properly summoned Assassin will always manifest as Hassan-i Sabbāh.

    Tactics
    Hassan appears only a few times in the story. Normally, he moves stealthily, collecting intelligence per the orders of his Master, Matou Zouken. Hassan only shows himself when it is time to kill an enemy.
    Hassan himself not a strong Servant. He displays his combat strength through surprise attacks, and is ill-suited to frontal assaults. Thus, Hassan waits for opportunities to arise with an invariable/absolute/certain chance of killing the target. There is no need for him to pursue the superhuman Servants. Instead, he waits for the perfect chance to get close to a Master, whom he can easily defeat...

    Class Abilities
    Presence Concealment: A+
    The greatest weapon of the Assassin class is Presence Containment. When this power is activated, it is possible to completely cut off one's presence. When Hassan is so concealed, it is impossible even for a Servant to sense his presence. One would not be able to tell if Hassan was approaching, if he had already left the area, or if he had even been there in the first place... Thus, Hassan is able to gather intelligence with impunity. Security systems of any kind are meaningless before him.
    Also, Hassan-i Sabbāh is a being created from the nineteen people that inherited the name. When Assassin is summoned, one of those nineteen individuals will appear. Naturally, Assassin's abilities and Noble Phantasms change depending on which Hassan is summoned. However, the excellent Presence Containment skill is a class ability, so it is shared by all Assassins. As described above, each Hassan has removed his or her nose and skin to create a faceless appearance, which carries the significance of being "nobody." It is hypothesized that the anonymity of being "nobody," the elimination of the self, also influences Presence Containment's ability to "hide oneself." Incidentally, the nineteen Hassans each have unique personalities, so the reader should take care to remember that they are not emotionless fighting machines.
    Each of the "Hassans" are not quite Heroic Spirits, but rather mere wraiths (Heroic Spirits are heroes that have left their names in history, and assassins have no names). In comparison to the other Servants, Assassin's combat ability is lacking. However, the discussion changes if Assassin uses Presence Containment to obtain a perfect killing opportunity. Even if the first blow fails to defeat the enemy, Assassin can conceal himself again with Presence Containment, and vigilantly await another opportunity. As a matter of fact, even the formidable Cu Chulainn was easily defeated when he faced Hassan.
    Nonetheless, there are weaknesses. In the moment that the user launches an attack, the rank of Presence Containment dramatically decreases. A normal person would fail to notice the killing intent and be sent to the world beyond. However, Hassan's opponents are Servants. For example, with Artoria's Instinct, it is possible to sense the presence of a trap and respond to it. Strategic planning on the Master's part is essential to make the best use of this crafty Servant.

    Personal Skills
    Projectile (Daggers): B
    Hassan's main mode of attack is to throw dirks, a type of dagger that originated in Scotland. His daggers have the same destructive power as firearms when thrown, spelling certain death for a human target. Interestingly, Hassan will never fail to recover all of his thrown daggers after battle, perhaps out of a possessive quirk of personality, or an aesthetic desire to only use his favorite weapons.

    Protection from Wind: A
    In the Middle East, there are legends that typhoons are caused by evil wind gods called djinni (alternately "jinn," "jinnaye"). Divine Protection from Wind is a chant that offers prayers to God, that oneself might receive a charm of protection against the calamity of such evil spirits. To call it a "charm" smacks of superstition, but the strength of its warding is tremendous. Hassan used this skill to resist Artoria's powerful "Bounded Field of the Wind King -- Invisible Air."

    Self-Modification: C
    As its title suggests, this is the ability to alter oneself by connecting one's own flesh to another body. One can increase the length of one's legs, for example, resulting in a form far removed from that of a proper Heroic Spirit. Hassan, whose abilities are below that of the other Servants, uses Self-Modification to enhance his physical performance and make up for his deficits. In the story, he seized Cu Chulainn's heart and introduced it to his own body.

    Noble Phantasms
    Zabaniya:Delusional Heartbeat

    The assassination technique, "Delusional Heartbeat: Zabaniya," that uses Hassan's cursed arm. Hassan connects his arm to the arm of the devil Shaytan (Satan in Christian cosmology). This ability specializes in cursing people to death.
    A mirror image is taken of the target to be killed, and from this mirror an ether clump is used to create an exact double existence. This double existence has a property of resonance with the original, so that if the double existence is harmed, the original will suffer the same damage. This can be considered sympathetic magic, albeit of an extremely high level. With this technique, an imitation heart belonging to the target is crushed, and the target dies without any outward sign of injury as its heart alone is pulverized. All armor is meaningless against Delusional Heartbeat's attack. No matter how mighty the foe, they cannot withstand this Noble Phantasm which directly assaults the inner organs. It is indeed a terrifying Noble Phantasm worthy of an assassin.

    Defending against Zabaniya

    Delusional Heartbeat is a Noble Phantasm of absolute death. However, as with other Noble Phantasms, it is neither invincible nor perfect.
    The ability's effective range is limited, so if one retreats past this distance and uses long-range attacks, Assassin is helpless. Also, Delusional Heartbeat is a curse, so it may be ineffective against Servants with high Magic Resistance, while targets with high Luck may be able to evade it. Additionally, there is the critical fact that the heart organ is not the vital point of a Servant. There also exist exceptional opponents such as Servants that can move without a heart, or individuals that are unaffected by a destroyed heart such as Kotomine Kirei.

    Trinity [Concept]
    The three elements that compose a human: Mind, Soul, and Body.
    In EXTELLA, in order to escape from Titan Altera, the Main Character split himself/herself into these three elements, splitting the Regalia at the same time.
    Below is an explanation of each element’s key qualities.

    The Mind:
    Master of Nero. His or her personality is based on personal experiences and passion.
    The Mind is optimistic and outgoing, though not particularly thoughtful.
    Even after being informed that he or she will disappear before long, the Mind keeps up a charming smile, believing that it will all work out somehow.
    Coupled with that charm is a decent sense of morality, rationality, and justice.

    The Soul:
    Master of Tamamo no Mae. [Unlike the Mind, whose personality is based on life experience,] the Soul acts more on his or her core nature.
    The Soul is optimistic, but rather passive, lacking in motivation and decisiveness.
    Ephemeral and a little timid, the Main Character ends up being pushed around by Tamamo, who grows into something of a villainess after acquiring the Regalia.
    In contrast with the Mind’s wild passion, the Soul exudes a sort of cool sensuality that enraptures even Tamamo by presence alone.
    He or she possesses the philosophical nature and acumen of a transcendent being who is unmoved by emotion.
    Although he or she may seem fragile at first glance, the Soul can achieve a state of surprising clarity when faced with a decision.

    The Body:
    Master of Altera. Driven by instinct, he or she has an open personality that persists even on its own, without the presence of the Mind or Soul.
    As well, without those two essential pieces, and despite being born from the same “root,” the Body has a stronger sense of physicality.
    In a sense, the Body is in a unique, virtually blank state, which means he or she can naturally and impartially assess Altera’s character.
    And so, even after being imprisoned by the Titan, the Body interacts her not as an enemy, but simply as a conversation partner. On those terms, the two begin to understand each other. Although in truth, for the Main Character, it’s love at first sight. The Body has no memories, and thus the default state is to continuously observe everything in sight.
    Without memories, the Body is constantly pondering his or her identity, the unnatural state of his or her existence, and, by extension, whether he or she will eventually disappear.
    But instead of being fearful, the Body is simply inquisitive, just like any newborn intelligent life form. His or her tendency to overthink is born of a single-minded desire to know who he or she really is.
    Later, the Body learns, and comes to accept, that his or her fate is to disappear no matter what happens. With that mystery solved, he or she then focuses on releasing Altera from the cruel fate that awaits her.
    In all other respects, the Body’s base personality is the same as the Mind.
    The Body is both pessimistic and bold. At first, the Main Character is headstrong (tsun), but they show their weakness once they reach a certain point (dere). So they are tsundere.
    The Extella series is made so that there is almost no difference between the male and female Main Characters, but the Body is an exception, and has clear differences.
    The relationship between Titan Altera and the female Main Character is one of a fearsome alien deity and the pure holy maiden who worships her.
    The reason we had the female Main Character’s new costume designed as a dress was purely so that we could emphasize that imagery.

    三位一体【事柄】
    人間を構成する三要素。精神、魂、肉体を指す。
    エクステラでは主人公が巨神アルテラの手から逃れるため、レガリアごと自分を三つに分けた事でそれぞれの要素に分かれてしまった。
    ここではそれぞれの特徴を説明する。

    精神
    ネロのマスター。実経験に基づいて形成された人格、情熱がメイン。
    前向きで能動的。やや思慮深さが足りない。
    自分がこのままでは消える事を聞かされた後でも「まあ、なんとかなるよ」と微笑むぐらいのイメケン度。
    般1的な道徳、倫理感、正義感を持つ。


    玉藻の前のマスター。実経験に左右されない人格、本質がメイン
    前向きで受動的。やや行動力、決断力にかける。
    ちょっと押しが弱い。儚い。王権を手に入れて悪女化しつつあるキャス狐に押されるカタチに。
    野性味は薄れたものの、色気がアッブ。ただ佇んでいるだけでタマモが胸キュンするほど。
    超越者的な価値観、判断力を持つ。情熱が薄いので情に流されない。
    儚そうに見えて決めるところはクールに決める。

    肉体
    アルテラのマスター。容れ物としての人格、本能がメィン。
    精神と魂が分離したとはいえ、肉体にも人格は宿る。
    ただし魂と精神がないため、真っ新な、「今までの主人公」とは根本は同じでも性格が微妙に違う(肉体の性別に素直な)ものになる。
    ある意味、ナチュラル 公正にアルテラを観察、判断できる状態。
    なので巨神アルテラに囚われた後も彼女を『敵』としてではなく『対話する相手』として接し、相互理解していく。
    単純にアルテラには一目惚れ状態だった。精神の主人公に近いが、記憶がないので行動の根底には「常に考察する」がある。
    いつでも自分は何者なのか、今の在り方は自然ではない いずれ消え去るのではないか、と推察している。
    それは「消滅への不安」と思われがちだが、肉体の主人公に不安 恐れはない。『自分が何者なのか』という疑問、思案。それは生まれたばかりの知性体が行う、当然の義務(タスク)だからだ。
    消えたくないから考察するのではなく、自分が何者なのかを見据えるために問いかけ続ける。
    そんな主人公なので自分がどうあっても消えるものであり、アルテラには違う未来があると考え、アルテラ解放を実行に移せる。
    基本人格は精神の主人公と同じ。
    後ろ向きで能動的。はじめは強気(ツン)だが一線を越えると弱気(デレ)になる。つまりツンデレ。
    EXシリ—ズでは主人公の男女差分は極力ないよう制作されているが、肉体の主人公のみ男女差分がはっきりしている。
    巨神アルテラと女主人公の組み合わせは「神に祭りあげられてしまった異邦人と、その神に仕える純真な巫女」として描かれている。
    女主人公の新コスチュームをワンピースにしてもらったのは、ひとえにこの組み合わせを最大限に生かすため。

    Alchemists affiliated with the Atlas Institute.
    They specialize in thought partitioning and thought acceleration, techniques that make use of the human body as an arithmetic unit.
    Their way of thinking concerning their body (flesh) is also unique. That is, they do not believe that the brain exists to control the body, but rather that the body exists solely so that the brain may function more effectively.
    If you just want a mathematical prodigy, there's no need for an alchemist – an engineer would do just fine. What sets apart an alchemist is that for them, the human body in its entirety (body, mind, and soul) is a unit for calculating, executing, and nurturing events.
    Also, they typically have very few magic circuits, the proof that one is a magus. Though this means that on their own they cannot use nature interference sorceries at all, they're perfectly okay with that. As far as they're concerned, there's no need to be strong themselves, because they can just make up for it by creating the strongest weapons.

    アトラスの錬金術師【用語】
    アトラス院に所属する錬金術師。
    思考分割、高速思考、と人体を演算装置として用いる術に特化している。
    身体(肉体)に対する考え方も独特で、脳が身体をコントロールするのではなく、脳をよりよく機能させる為に肉体がある、と考えている。
    単純な演算能力の怪物を生み出すだけなら錬金術師である必要はなく、技術者になればいいだけだ。彼らにとって人体とは“肉体·精神·魂の三位含めて計算、実践、成長するに優れた個体”なのである。

    Space dust. Name given to all the harmful and unpredictable particles generated from the planet that lost its function. Although it is harmful to humans, sometimes it gives an unique effect to their body, and some call it Ether. The Hundred A-rays, Human Species, Knights, are all new species created by this Gin. The energy transfer rate of the Gin scattered in atmosphere is incredible, and it resulted in a new level of warfare that was never possible on this planet.
    With A-rays who can take in Gin into their body and Demonic Swords crystallized by Gin, all the weapons of the old age became useless.

    宇宙塵。惑星としての機能をなくした星にあふれだしたあらゆる有害、計測不能の粒子の総称。人体に有害であるが、ごくまれに人体に特異な変化をもたらす事からエーテルとも呼ばれる。

    Black Barrel [Longinus]
    A black rifle that the Gun God uses. Created by a mineral that counters all Gin, it's a weapon that is feared by life forms that carry any slight amount of Gin.
    But because all living beings that exists in the world are affected by Gin, it is impossible for them use or even touch it.
    The God killer gun. If the target creature is stronger... in other words, the more Gin it carries, the more powerful the bullet becomes.
    ...Today, only the rare species that weren't able to evolve and doesn't carry any Gins can touch this gun.

    ブラック・バレル [Longinus]
    銃神が所有する黒い銃。全てのジンに相克する鉱物で作られており、ジンを微量でも含む生命体にとっては天敵ともいえる兵器。
    しかし世界に存在するあらゆる生命種はジンの影響を受けている為、これの使用はおろか触れる事さえ不可能となっている。
    神殺しの銃であり、攻撃対象になる生命種が強大な力…すなわちジンを含めば含むほど、その殺傷能力は飛躍していく。
    …今や希少種となった、ジンを含まず、進化に対応できなかった生命種のみが何の影響もなくこの銃に触れることができる。

    Introduction - Godo

    His real name has been erased. Generally known as Gun God or God Imitator. One of the few old-generation “humans” surviving in this wasteland.

    Humans – strong as living creatures, yet weak as existences – were almost completely eliminated on doomsday. The survivors, being unable to adapt to the Grain permeating the atmosphere, were soon to follow.

    During these last days, the surviving humans created the artificial paradise.

    Although this artificial paradise was quickly destroyed by The Black Aristoteles, Godo was unlucky enough to receive environmental adaptation treatment, and thus his life was saved. He became the world’s last surviving human and continued to live.

    But, even if he was a survivor, his future was short.

    For Godo, his current life was akin to living on the moon. Without the help of machines and medicines, he would not even be able to breathe properly, and the food that he puts in his mouth is like poison.

    Because his prospects were so bleak, or perhaps because he had already faced death many times, his worldview became very self-torturing but not quite pessimistic (“resignation” could be a good way to describe it), and he lived leisurely passing by the days.

    In the past, wanting revenge, he excavated Black Barrel from the sealed region of Atlasia, and participated in the battle to prevent Type:Venus’ descent. Afterwards, in order to escape further conflicts, he concealed his whereabouts.

    According to rumors, he participated in a certain city’s fight to repel Type:Saturn, and died there.

    Although he is the weakest, he is a sniper able to withstand the poison of the strongest.

    Explanation - Black Barrel

    A black gun. It is a weapon that can destroy the Fifth Theoretical Element, and is constructed from the Fifth True Element.

    It is called a conceptual weapon of natural life by the Six Sisters.

    The bullets can ignore the abilities of anything that uses Grain and cause direct damage.

    It is similar to a cancer cell directly invading a body.

    One of the reasons that humans have degraded as is that they have no way to utilize the Grain in the air. As soon as they breathe it in, they die.

    The moment that this new energy source, Grain, rejected them, humans became the weakest of all life forms, but Black Barrel could be called the one weapon that reverses that specific weak point.

    It has many uses, and by changing its fittings it can be made to act as a sniper rifle.

    It normally takes the form of a rifle with a curved stock.

    At the time of its excavation, it seems that there was an original and also a replica. The gun that Godo always uses is the original.

    As the weakest individual but possessing a means of deposing the strongest, a really protagonist-like individual.

    Introduction - ゴドー
    本名。額飲、というのをいれる。院まいったいな時代の“人間”。
    生物としてあったが生命としては弱かった人間は世界各軍によって大部分が死滅し、残った者たちも大気に満ちたジンに適応できず死に絶えていった。
    そんな終末の中でも生き延びようとした人間たちによる人工楽園の出身。
    人工楽園自体は黒いアリストテレスによってすみやかに消滅したが、環境適応処置を受けていたゴドーは不運にも生き延び、地上に残った最後の人間として生きていく事になる。
    もっとも、生き残ったところで先は長くない。
    ゴドーにとって今の生活は月に住んでいるようなもの。機械と菜の助けがなくては満足に呼吸もできず、口にする食料は毒でしかない。
    まさにお先真っ暗ではあるが、幾度もの終末を乗り越えてしまった為か、自由的ではあるが悲観的にはならない、といった観(諦観とも言う)に至っているので日々のんびりと過ごしている。
    かつては復讐心から取アトラシアよりブラックバレルを発掘し、タイプ・ヴィーナス降下阻止作戦に参加、以後は戦いを避けて行方を貶ました。
    風の噂ではとある街で行われたタイプ・サターン迎撃戦に参加し、戦死したとされる。
    最弱ではあるが、最強の毒に耐えうる狙撃手。

    Explanation - ブラックバレル
    黒い銃身。第五架空要素を自壊させる、第五真説要素によって作られた兵器。
    六人姉妹たちには天存の概念武装と呼ばれる。
    この銃によって放たれた弾丸は、真エーテルによっ して活動するモノなら、いかなる能力値をも無視して を与える魔の一撃となる。
    直接本体に打ち込まれる細胞のようなものか。
    人間が霊長から転落した理由の一つに、大気に満ち たジンを扱えず、吸い込めば死に至るという事がある。
    ジンという新しいエネルギーに拒絶された時点で人間はもっとも弱い生物になったが、ブラックバレルはその欠点を逆転させた兵器と言える。
    汎用性が高く、各種オプションを換装する事で狙撃 銃としても使用可能。
    基本は曲銃床を用いるライフル型。
    発掘時にはオリジナルとレプリカの二丁があったらしい。ゴドーが愛用していたのはオリジナルの方。

    The 6th Imaginary Aspect. Existences born of the wishes of humans, passively (受動的な, shuudou-teki-na?, lit. "as acted upon") called forth by human desire. Manifest phantasms (実像幻想, jitsuzou gensou?) that take form via the aggregation of ideation (想念, sounen?, lit. "thoughts"). For materialization (実体化, kittaika?, lit. "manifestation to material") to occur, "a form fabricated by humans" is necessary. Not True Demons, but existences that obtain being by the imposition of a Designation (個体名, kotai-mei?, lit. "unit designation").
    As Demons attain true freedom upon receiving a Designation, it is a general rule that the naming of Demons is not an act to lightly engage within.
    Temporarily setting aside the outcomes of engaging with such, Demons may be assessed as allies of humanity, who exist so as to empathize with and resolve the sufferings of humanity.

    悪魔(用語)
    第六架空要素。人間の願いによって生み出され、人間の願いによって呼び出される受動的なモノ。モノの想念が集まってカタチをなした実像幻想。実体化には『人々が創造したカタチ』が必要。真性悪魔ではなく『個体名』になるもののこと。
    名前をつけてしまうと本当に自由になってしまうため、悪魔を安易に名付けてはならないという決まりがある。
    結果はどうあれ、人の苦悩を理解し取りのぞこうとするもので、見ようによっては人間の味方。

    True Demon [Circumstances]

    Even in the world of Extra, the concept of Demons (悪魔の概念, akuma no gainen?) is by humanity treated as the greatest of obstacles; so as God is to omniscience and omnipotence (全知全能, zenchi zenou?), so as demons as an existence are to mortal levels of awareness and impotence (人知無能, Jinchi Munou?, lit. "human intellect and impotence").

    They are as an abyss (淵, fuchi?) that lies within arm's reach, yet decisively beyond comprehension.

    Distinct from those demons from Stay Night, which exist only as imitations, the real thing -- Enfleshed Demons (受肉した悪魔, juniku-shita akuma?, lit. "Incarnated Demon") are that with which humans are incapable of competing 太刀打ちできない (tachi-uchi-dekinai, lit. "incapable of crossing swords"?).

    (※ There is in record only a single instance in which an Enfleshed Demon was forced to disperse (退散, taisan?, lit. "disperse / retreat"), but that's a different story.)

    In general, demons are existences that take possession, utilizing the corpus of a human to incarnate (受肉, juniku) and take action, but in the event that the psyche (精神, seishin?) of the human host (苗床になる人間, naedoko ni naru ningen?, lit. "the human that becomes a seed-bed") cannot withstand the strain, it is commonplace for self-annihilation (自壊, jikai?) of the host to occur, dispersing the essence of the demon into the vicinity.

    There exist also humans who by way of their own acts (業, ?, lit. "sins; worldly preoccupations / fixations / absorptions; karma") are subsumed unto the category of Demons as a result of losing their humanity; but these creatures that are said to have become Fiends (魔人, Majin?) cannot be considered True Demons.

    In the world of Extra -- whether by way of Demonic possession, or in the circumstance that one's own actions bring about a transformation -- the phenomenon whereby a True Demon is birthed unto the world has, as of present day in 2030, not been brought successful fruition even once.

    Though the classifications of "Demons" and "Fiends" do exist, their manner of existence is in essence indistinguishable from that of a higher-order lifeform (高次元生命体, kou-jigen seimeitai?, lit. "higher-dimension lifeform") that inhabits a different sphere of civilization (異なる文明圏, koto-naru bunmei-ken?) upon a different planet (異なる惑星, koto-naru wakusei?).

    In sum, said existences can, per the recognition of the Universe of Awareness (認識宇宙, ninshiki-uchuu?, lit. "the universe derived of observation / perception"), no longer be discerned as "human."

    Their existences would approximate to that of the cosmic horrors (邪神, jashin?, lit. "evil god") of a certain fictitious Mythos popular in the 20th century.

    In the True Route of CCC, a certain individual that has undergone transmigration did indeed manage to reach this realm, but owing to a slight mistake, they were capsized from the Seat of Divinity (神の座, kami no za?).

    真性悪魔【事柄】
    EXTRA世界にあっても、悪魔の概念は人類にとって最大の障害として扱われる。
    神が全知能であるのなら、悪魔は人知無能の存在。
    手の届く範囲にありながら決して理解できない(ふち)だ。
    stay nightにおいて悪魔は偽物しか存在せず、本物————受肉した悪魔に人間は太刀打ちできないとされる。
    (*受肉した悪魔を退散させた例は一件のみ記録されているが、それはまた別の話)
    たいてい悪魔は憑くものとされ、人間の体を用いて受肉しようと働くが、苗床になる人間の精神が耐えられず、周囲に魔をまき散らして自壊するのが通例。
    中には自らの業によって人間でなくなってしまい、結果的に悪魔のカテゴリーに含まれる人間もいるが、これは魔人化と呼ばれるもので真性悪魔ではない。
    EXTRA世界において、悪魔憑きであれ、自らの業で変化したものであれ、真性悪魔を生み出した現象は2030年現在、一つの成功例 もない。
    悪魔、魔人化、と銘打ってはいるが、その在り方は異なる文明圏、異なる惑星に住まう高次元生命体と変わらな い。なにしろこの認識宇宙における『人』でなくなったのだから。
    その在り方は二十世紀に流行した、とある創作神話における邪神の在り方に近い。
    CCCの真ルートで変生(へんじよう)した ある人物はこの域に達しながら、些細なミスによって神の座から転落した。
