Martha
FGO Rider
FGO Caster (Santa)

MarthaWP (マルタWP, Maruta?, Saint Martha) is a Rider-class Servant summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order. She was also summoned by Jeanne d'Arc Alter in the First Singularity, who modified her Saint Graph to have the Mad Enhancement Skill and gave her the Class Name Berserk-Rider (バーサーク・ライダー, Bāsāku-Raidā?).

Profile[]

Identity[]

Martha the Dragon Rider (ドラゴンライダー, Doragon Raidā?) was a saint of the 1st CenturyWP who suppressed the evil dragon Tarasque. A holy maiden who made a terrible and grotesque monster fall madly in love.[1][2]

History[]

The Staff that He gave me

The Staff that He gave me (彼のくれた杖, Kare no kureta tsue?)

Guided by the words of the Jesus, whom she warmly welcomed with her younger brother and sister, Martha became a person of faith. She did not abandon her faith even later on after Jesus was executed, further avoiding death as she was exiled by the Roman viceroy at the time and was placed in a boat with neither a paddle or a sail to use, and drifted to southern France upon receiving the grace of God.[1][2]

At the town of Nerluc, which was located ahead of her as she went north along the Rhône RiverWP, she ended up confronting the monster Tarasque, who was also called the child of Leviathan and was viewed as a tyrannical dragon tormenting the people.[1][2] Martha was not afraid of this monster and suppressed it with discipline carried out through her sacred powers. Afterwards, Nerluc changed its name to TarasconWP, and it is currently prospering as a city that enshrines Martha and Tarasque.[1]

Although there are various opinions on the details of how Tarasque was suppressed, from the scene back in Martha's lifetime, Tarasque wears an expression similar to one that can't be managed, but within Fate/Grand Order, Tarasque always appears to be sad due to frequent abuse at the hands of Martha.[1]

Appearance[]

A perfect person, endowed with beauty and overflowing with charm.[2] She is a beautiful saint.[1]

Martha has blue eyes and long purple hair, reaching below her waist, with a white, golden-frilled, short veil around her head. She wears a pair of blue earrings on each ear. A short, blue cloak draped over her shoulders is connected to a red collar. Her main piece of clothing is an unnatural one-piece, white dress with red trimmings, with wide sleeves, revealing its interior gray colors and rose-vine pattern. The dress is low cut, with an exposed trim-like section down the middle all the way down to her navel. In the skirt, it is split apart in two points, exposing her legs. A black belt is tied around her waist, connected to a golden ornament by the right hip, which drapes over the remainder of the belt all the way down to her ankles. In addition, Martha wears blue stockings, a set of green and golden gauntlets and grieves, and high-heeled sandals.

She holds in her right hand her signature staff: a golden pole with pink strips tied around it and with a silver and purple cross at the very top.

In her second Ascension, her cloak changes to red with golden crosses and a chain mail section. The veil is replaced by a set of long, white ribbons tied to both sides of her head, and a new golden ornament appears on her left hip, with yet another belt tied around her waist connecting to it. Her gauntlets are replaced by a silver, more bulkier set, and similar armor pieces are attached to her grieves and feet.

In her third Ascension, the golden pieces and belts are removed, and the sleeves replaced by elbow armor. The blue stockings are swapped out by french raspberry ones. The cloths attached to her hips and new set of gloves are of the same color. Said clothes possess white trimmings and crosses. The front section of her dress was removed entirely. The color pattern of her staff changed, the silver and gold were swapped around and the strips went from pink to purple, matching her hair.

Personality[]

To someone less familiar with Martha, she seems like the prefect saint, being beautiful, chaste, gentle, and kind.[1][2] Perhaps due to her younger sister Mary, Martha frequently act like an older-sister.[1][2] She is reliable and holds an indomitable spirit. If she can say, "I'm okay", her companions will believe that, no matter what happens.[1]

The companions she can particularly confide in, however, know a Martha who acts very much unlike a saint. When she sulks, gets angry, or irrritated at an enemy, her words, gaze and facial expressions can suddenly turn sharp, the atmosphere around her becomes unyielding, and she becomes dynamic and determined right after.[1][2] But she will always manage to keep herself from attacking the source of her ire, since she received her cross staff from Christ Himself.[1] This side of her is the closest to what she was like when she was a town girl who lived together with her younger brother and sister before she recieved the staff and became a saint.

But despite this extreeme persona, she is still a real saint.[1] Even though it is a bit distant from the image of a perfect saint, her captivating charm, indomitable spirit, and belief that guides and protects every single person, her love for people, and so on, are all fundamentally constant with her saintly essence.[1] Which persona she takes on largely depends on if her filter is on or off.[1][2]

Martha has nothing to wish for on the Holy Grail that does not belong to the Messiah. Similarly, like the times of before, she will live as a saint even after she had materialized as a Servant. Therefore, she will be cooperative with her Master. So long as the Master continues to walk on the right path.[1][2]

Relationships[]

Georgios
A connection between them as fellow Saints.
“George is also not half bad.”[1]
Jeanne d'Arc
A connection between them as fellow Saintesses. There are various things for Martha to think about regarding Jeanne. For once, Martha wants to do something like having a relaxing chat with Jeanne.[1]
Jeanne d'Arc Alter
Since Jeanne Alter reminds her of her former self, Martha cannot look at her in the eyes.
“Impossible! Hey, you will REALLY regret this. Disgraceful.”[1]
During the First Singularity, Jeanne Alter summoned Martha as her Servant. Put under the influence of the Mad Enhancement Skill, she was manipulated her to lay waste to France. Role[]

Fate/Grand Order[]

First Singularity: Orleans[]

Martha is summoned by Jeanne Alter to serve as one of her Berserk Servants under designation of Berserk-Rider. They begin a campaign of destruction against France, killing many, particularly King Charles VII and Pierre Cauchon. Unbeknownst to Jeanne Alter and the others, Martha hid Lyon’s protector, Siegfried, in the town castle after he was left defeated and cursed by Jeanne Alter when she came to destroy the town.[5]

Later, Martha accompanies Jeanne Alters and her other Servants to confront Ritsuka’s party when they were investigating the recently destroyed La Charite. After the group escapes with the help of Marie Antoinette and Amadeus Mozart, Jeanne Alter orders Martha to follow and observe them.

Martha confronts the group in their camp at night. Despite her order to only observe, she decides to test their skills. After they defeat her, she thanks them for releasing from madness. Before disappearing, she tells them to go to Lyon where they will find the Dragonslayer they need to defeat Jeanne Alter’s dragon.[6]

Do Moon Goddesses Dream of Dango?[]

Traveling with Georgios and Sasaki Kojiro, Martha runs into Marie, Chevalier d’Eon and Charles-Henri Sanson, who give them most of their dumplings as a sign of friendship. Afterwards, she and the others go to the waters of Marseille to pray.

Camping on the shoreline of Marseille, Martha eats the dumplings with Georgios and Sasaki. Annoyed that Sasaki is tagging along with her and Georgios, she asks what his motives. Sasaki answers he seeks to duel her. Martha refuses, saying she preaches the folly of battle. She questions why she must fight him, calling herself not the fighting type. Sasaki asks her about Tarasque, which makes Martha wonder angrily if he’s after the dragon. She states Tarasque’s shell is too thick for both Sasaki’s sword and her fists. She gets upset at Georgios for wondering if she fought dragons with her fists before becoming a saint.

Ritsuka’s party soon arrive; Mash demands they surrender their dumplings. Martha’s group comply, but Artemis reveals they’re still hiding some dumplings. Martha in particular is hiding some behind her back. With their poor deception unveiled by Artemis, Martha, wanting more dumplings, fights the group with Georgios and Kojiro. After Ritsuka’s party defeat them, Martha reprimands Georgios and Sasaki for pretending to be passed out because of their male pride by knocking the two of them unconscious. She then escapes on Tarasque, but not before revealing that her group had given half of their dumplings to a fat man they met in the wasteland.

Miss Almost Weekly Santa Alter[]

When Julius Caesar came to Jing Ke‘s hideout, Martha mistakes him for Santa Claus and asks him for a new set of German cooking knives. Caesar instead makes her, along with Ushiwakamaru and Jing Ke, sign a contract that forced them to buy expensive presents with their own money. But when Caesar discovered they don’t have enough money, he confiscates their possessions.

Later, Martha aggressively punches a punching bag while complaining about Christmas. Then, after punching the bag off its chain, she becomes startled when Santa Alter asks her where Jing Ke (calling her Jean Kay) is. She welcomes her and Ritsuka to the cave, and tells them to leave after they had their soup. Jing Ke arrives though and asks for Martha to cook some seared beef and sea turtle soup. But Martha confronts her about how lazy she’s become instead of being her usual gallant self. She, Jing Ke, and Ushiwakamaru then attack Santa Alter when she reveals herself to be Santa Alter. After Santa Alter defeats them, Martha relays their incident with the other Santa to her. She is then given her present, which will help get her buffed up, but she complains about why a saint would want to get buff.

Summer Event: Chaldea Summer Memories[]

Martha and several other of Ritsuka’s Servants are accidentally rayshifted to a remote island where they’re unable to contact Chaldea. Like the others, she doesn’t know where they are, but finds the beach nice.

As the group waits for Blackbeard's observation report of the island, Martha accuses Sasaki of sexual harassment when he asks for a duel so obtusely. The group learns from a near-dead Blackbeard that their location is still unknown, and it’s nearly impossible to leave by ship. Agreeing with Artoria Pendragon‘s suggestion to leave the island to contact Chaldea, they decide to build a ship capable of leaving the island. Scáthach alters their Spirit Origins to give them swimsuits to accommodate their current environment. While embarrassed by exposing so much skin, Martha decides to forget her role as a saint temporarily, given the situation. The group goes to gather materials for Scáthach to build their escape ship and other facilities.

Later, the group discusses what their first task of island life should be when a storm suddenly rolls in. They enter a small cave spotted by Mordred to escape the rain, but they run out due to a massive swarm of bugs. Outside the cave, the group decides they need to build a cabin to take shelter in.

After that is built, the group decides to build a water supply to preserve any freshwater they collect. Martha rejects Kiyohime’s suggestion of a wooden well as the wood would rot. She says a brick well would be more durable while looking nice as well.

If the brick well is made, she voices her admiration rather strangely, blaming it on her lowering her guard because she’s wearing a swimsuit. She tells Ritsuka how wells were an important source of water even in her time, so she finds the brick well nostalgic. Ritsuka suggests naming it; Martha suggests naming it after them since they dug it. After suggesting to name it after Jacob, Martha wonders if she would’ve given Jesus water if she was that Samaritan woman. She finds it strange a well on a deserted island would make her reminisce about her past, remarking she was happy despite having nothing. Since she had nothing to begin with, she appreciates what was granted her. She then draws up some water and drinks it with Ritsuka to commemorate the well.

Later, Mash reveals they’re low on food. Martha calls food a mood stabilizer for Servants since they don’t need to eat, though she recognizes it’s a problem for Ritsuka and Mash. Ritsuka and Mash say their rations from Chaldea are nearly depleted, so Martha decides they'll need to procure food themselves. A lack of food affects not only Ritsuka but also lowers their Servants’ morale. Martha isn't sure what plants are safe to eat, though. The three then split up to find food, but only Martha returns with fruit. Mash asks what the fruits are, but Martha only grins. Mash inspects the fruits and becomes worried. Martha responds they won’t die instantly at the very least. She suggests spitting it out if their tongue feels numb or if their stomach feels strange. If they have trouble regurgitating, she’ll knock the fruit out of them. She then cuts the top of the fruit with her bare hand so Ritsuka and Mash can drink from it. The first one is spicier than habanero; Martha suggests using it for spicing instead. The next one is tasteless with a weird and dry texture. Martha finds it strange since at least one should be edible and wonders if their instincts are becoming dull. She asks Mash why she isn’t saying anything about the last fruit, pretending not to notice the horrible stench from it. Mash answers it is edible, but it tastes like soybeans, according to Ritsuka. Martha says it’s fine since it’s still edible, meaning they have more for an emergency. She calls Ritsuka and Mash picky, pointing out how people in the past ate a lot worse.

Tired of barbecue, the group decide to build a proper cooking facility. Martha agrees with Mordred’s suggestion of making a giant pot, saying she can make her special Bethanian stew for everyone.

If the giant pot is made, she remarks how large meals were commonplace in her household. She even prepared a little extra in case of an unexpected visitor, such as Jesus and his disciples. She then notices the stew is done cooking and hopes everyone will eat it to not make the large portions pointless.

Next, the group decides to build a bathing facility. Martha agrees with Artoria’s suggestion of a standard bathing facility, saying they shouldn’t forget modesty just because they’re on a deserted island. She calls roman bathing especially sinful, questioning the prospect of men and women bathing together.

If the Japanese bath is built, she apologizes to Artoria for suggesting she test the bath with Ritsuka instead of her, blaming it on roman custom. She then asks Artoria why she picked a Japanese bath when she’s the king of Britain. Artoria answers it gives her vague flashbacks of when she was a main heroine to Martha’s confusion. She is more confused when Artoria looks around after noticing an illusion of Medusa.

Afterward, the group cultivates a vegetable field. Next, they decide to make a grain field, with Martha suggesting wheat. If wheat is chosen, Martha finds it brings back memories. if she was going to hold a sermon over a wheat field, the topic would naturally be on wheat. She wonders if she should talk about the Parable of the Tares or the Parable of Wheat. She blames her sudden preach on not having her staff. If she doesn’t remind herself of her sainthood, Martha feels she may not revert back once summer is over. She then yells at Ritsuka for trying to leave when she is about to give an important sermon.

Afterward, the group decides to raise some livestock. If the sheep are chosen, Martha arrives after hearing there were sheep, saying sheep need a shepherd. She wonders if she should hold a sermon on shepherding. Tamamo-no-Mae suggests having David shepherd, but Martha wonders if it would be appropriate to have David return to his former occupation. They are both shocked when Artoria says she heard Romulus was a shepherd.

The next night, Martha joins the others in chasing the boar piglet accused of eating their crops. She questions the validity of Fionn mac Cumhaill and Diarmuid Ua Duibhne being killed by boars though. She then accuses Sasaki of not caring for his friends because he wasn’t interested in hunting a boar that doesn’t clone itself, go back in time, split space, or the like. The group eventually finds the piglet with two others defending the crops from a demon boar. Realizing it is the true culprit, the group kills the demon boar. Afterward, Scáthach contracts the piglets to protect the crops. Martha agrees but thinks to herself that she could eat them if there isn’t a choice.

The next day, the group build a pathway to improve their efficiency in material gathering, as Artoria suggested. if the railroad track is built, Martha rides the carts alongside Mordred and Anne and Mary.

Afteer building a more efficeint watter storage system, the group builds a bridge for Ritsuka. If the ropeway is made, Martha races the cable cars with Mordred. Anne, and Mary.

Later, Martha is recruited by Scáthach to investigate something the piglets found with her, Ritsuka, Mash, and Marie. Scáthach tells her she is better suited to the task than herself, which makes Martha speculate if it’s related to non-fatal unarmed combat. Eventually, the group discovers a manhole-sized pool of poison which is causing all the plants in the area to wilt. Martha assumes the approaching monsters created the miasma, but Scáthach corrects her that they were merely attracted to it. After the monsters are slain, Martha realizes why she was recruited and purifies the miasma with holy water. The group then follow the piglet to an even larger pool of poison, which was created by a demon boar bathing in the water. After killing the demon boar, Martha tries to purify the pool, but it proves ineffective. So Scáthach plants ash trees to clean the miasma as they grow. The process takes roughly 1,000 years to complete and rushing it will cause the seeds to wither away from the poison. Scáthach tells the others to deal with any demon boars and poison pools they encounter, suspecting they'll be more from now on.

Later, after making a garden, the group decides to build a play area. Martha tries to deny she enjoys overcoming tough opponents when Scáthach says its a warrior’s greatest joy, all the while polishing her gauntlets. If the Coliseum is built, she fights Scáthach in a tournament to determine Ritsuka’s top Servant. If Marie Land is built, Martha repeatedly performs low kicks on the half-buried tires, not understanding they're meant for leaping.

Later, Martha notices Cú Chulainn and Karna whispering to each other. Suspicious of the men disappearing from time to time, she follows them with Ritsuka, Mash, Tamamo, and Kiyohime. They follow the men into the jungle, where they’re confronted by Sasaki wearing a mask calling himself Island Mask. Martha decides to punch him until his mask breaks, but Sasaki asks her not to since it's borrowed. So Martha decides to focus solely on his stomach instead, claiming she’ll hit so he won’t be able to digest for three days. She wonders if Sasaki’s eagerness to fight her is related to her swimsuit, now eager to fight as well. Sasaki replies he wants her to bring out Tarasque, so Martha decides to show no mercy.

At the fight’s conclusion though, Martha accidentally hits Tarasque into the sky. She apologizes for it, then asks Sasaki his reasons. Sasaki admits he wanted to go wild as well since it’s summer. But he couldn’t wear a swimsuit because he’s a 1-star Servant. Mozart gave the mask to him to give him some excitement. Though Martha broke it, it remains a symbol of determination for the 1-Star Alliance, of which Sasaki and Mozart are members. Even though she understands he was venting his frustration, Martha asks him why he was barring them. She knows the men up ahead aren’t of common rarity, so Sasaki isn’t obligated to help them. Sasaki answers he asked them to hire him, thinking it would be a good chance to play the role of Island Mask. He then guides the group to a secret village built by the men.

A couple of days later, the group builds a lookout tower. If Mordred’s Rock Tower is built, Martha finds it blasphemous. She accepts it however since it’s meant to represent an act of divine will.

Next, the group upgrades its residence. Afterward, they prepare to construct a statue as they reach final preparations for their escape ship. Martha says giving form to their determination will make it easier to rally together, and provide something to offer their prays to. A giant demon boar suddenly arrives, but the group forces it to retreat. Afterward, they construct the statue.

The next day, the ship has finished construction.  The group then fights the giant demon boar to protect the piglets when it returns, despite its wounds. However, its stamina proves to be tremendous and charges at the ship to destroy it. The group is able to make it to the ship, thanks to the piglets protecting it. After defeating the giant demon boar, the group and the men board the ship and set sail.

Summer Event: Chaldea Heat Odyssey[]

As the group continues sailing, Mash shows concern for the men who were sent overboard during a storm. Martha insists Sasaki is fine though, suspecting he knows how to swim since he’s from an island nation.

The group eventually makes landfall on a desolate wasteland. They hear a cry for help, which to their surprise is coming from a boar piglet. They defeat the Shadow Servant chasing the piglet, showing itself to be a demon boar in disguise. The piglet calls the group goddesses and asks them to save this world.

The piglet leads the group to city ruins, where they meet the boar piglet chief. Hearing of their circumstance, the chief thanks the group for saving his grandchild. He tells them the buildings were from advanced civilization built by the piglets. Unfortunately, it ended when the demon boars and Shadow Servants arrived fifty years ago. The chief recounts a legend in his clan about nine goddesses called the Nine Sisters who gave the piglets civilization. As they were said to take human forms, the chief’s grandson assumed the group were the goddesses. In exchange for the piglets’ help, the group starts redeveloping the island.

Later, they learn they’re on the same island from before 2,000 years later. They also realize they’re the Nine Sisters. Scáthach warns another 2000 years may pass on the island if they try to leave again by ship, so the group agree not to leave that way. They agree to discover why the island’s space-time is distorted as they continue to redevelop the island and try to contact Chaldea.

They later learn Beowulf is also on the island as an enemy. Martha is eager to punish him when Ritsuka entices her to do so, but she quickly what realizes what they’re doing. She then violently pulls on their cheeks until Mash stops her.

Martha helps construct an amusement center. She is annoyed that the piglets want another, saying the Lord says not to indulge too much in pleasure. If the stadium is built, Martha finds it problematic the piglets aren’t good at catching baseballs despite being known for their fastballs and curveballs. If Neo Marie Land is built, she finds it creepy that all the attractions have Marie’s face, especially the teacups.

Later, Thomas Edison, who gave the boar piglets electricity 100 years ago, is woken from cryosleep by Ritsuka, Mash, Scáthach, Artoria, and Mordred. The group learns he needs the Holy Grail to build an escape device to contact Chaldea.

Ritsuka and Mash later leads Martha to the ruins where Beowulf is. Sasaki suddenly appears; Martha asks him where he’s been. He answers Beowulf saved him from being eaten alive by a demon boar after washing ashore. Martha assumes he is working as a gatekeeper again, though Sasaki says he is reluctantly doing so to repay Beowulf. Karna then arrives, saying he and Sasaki were ordered to bar the group. He insists though Beowulf that only wants to test their abilities.[7]

After the fight, the group is brought before Beowulf. Beowulf calls Martha a grappler or the like, but she insists she is merely a woman who believes in her Lord. She demands he return to his duty as a Servant who protects and guides the weak. She decides to fight him though after being struck by a demon boar under his command. After his demon boars are slain, Beowulf reveals he took a piglet hostage. Martha defeats him and asks him to stop her calling the Goddess of the Iron Fist. She refuses to let him die, saying he needs to rebuild the town or she’ll thrash him otherwise. She then tells the piglet that there will absolutely be no fist sculptures inspired by her.[7]

Completing more construction projects, the group goes to the demon boars’ lair as they likely have the Grail. As they near their destination, they notice many demon boars guarding the cave. Since the demon boars outnumber them, the group goes with Mordred’s plan to break through the enemy line and hold them off so Ritsuka, Mash, Scáthach, and Edison can enter the cave.

After the escape device is built, the group prepares to leave the island. Martha is annoyed that Beowulf wants a rematch with her to show his thanks. She warns the piglets not to be overly arrogant, otherwise demon boars or what not will show up again. The chief calls her by her goddess nickname, much to her annoyance. After leaving the island, the group is contacted by Romani Archaman. They learn they were only gone for an hour before rayshifting back to Chaldea.

Christmas Event: The Second Generation is Alter-chan[]

Martha is spending Christmas again with Jing Ke, Ushiwakamaru, and Mata Hari in Jing Ke’s hideout, though she’s frustrated that Jing Ke and Ushiwakamaru are both drunk. She questions why they would be reinvigorated on such a holy day. She understands celebrating a little, but the rest should be sent in reverence. The others tease Tarasque when Martha notices Jeanne Alter Santa Lily and Ritsuka have arrived. Martha and the others fight them after Alter Lily decides to punish Jing Ke and Ushiwakamaru for their drunkenness. After the fight, Marth is disappointed that it didn’t sober up either Jing Ke or Ushiwakamaru. Like the others, she is gifted a detoxifier by Alter Lily. She asks Alter Lily who made the medicine, to which the latter answers it was a Caster wearing white clothes. Then, much to Martha’s annoyance, Mata Hari leaves Jing Ke and Ushiwakamaru to kill this Caster. Alter Lily tries to leave with Risuka for their next destination, but Martha grabs her. She asks her what she was thinking when she gave out those presents, to which Alter Lily replies she wanted to give something useful. Martha disagrees with that sentiment though, believing Christmas presents are more about bringing joy rather than being practical. Alter Lily disagrees, believing a practical gift is better than one that brings joy. Martha finds herself unable to argue and asks Ritsuka to take of the rest. She thanks Alter Lily for the gift and wishes her good luck.

Final Singularity: Solomon[]

Martha is amongst the "Orleans" Singularity Servants assisting Chaldea against the Demon Gods Pillars.[8]

Christmas Event: Holy Samba Night[]

Thinking it is up to her to teach children right from wrong if Saint Nicholas will not and wanting to restore her original saintly image, Martha tries to qualify for the Santa Tag Team Tournament. With Tarasque as her partner, she forcefully entered the preliminaries. She failed to qualify, however, when she saved a puppy from getting run over during the Train Attack event, which she did by stopping the train itself.

She later watched Bradamante and Quetzalcoatl’s first match, and saw Bradamante lacked the power a paladin should have. Wanting to confirm this for herself, she disguised herself and lied in wait in their personal gym. Upon their return, Martha attacked and easily defeated Bradamante, confirming her observations. Removing her disguise, she explains how she failed to qualify for the tournament and why she attacked Bradamante. She therefore offers to train Bradamante, which Bradamante readily accepts. The two then train, using Tarasque as a punching bag, until it’s time for the second match.[9]

Following the third match, Martha, Leonardo da Vinci, and Mash learn Ritsuka’s party were ambushed. Martha gets furious that her student was injured but quickly calms herself down. Fearing something worse will happen in the ring tomorrow, she then teaches Bradamante her fifty-two forbidden techniques.

Bradamante and Quetzalcoatl win their fourth match, though Quetzalcoatl ended up getting poisoned. Even by the next day, Quetzalcoatl still hasn’t recovered, and with a few hours before the next match, she convinces Martha to be her stand-in. Donning a luchador mask, Martha joins Ritsuka and Bradamante for the match, pretending to be a completely recovered Quetzalcoatl. Bradamante seems to be oblivious to the fact that she isn’t Quetzalcoatl. She finds out though when Martha takes off her mask following their match against Atalanta Alter and Jaguar Man.[10]

When they return to their gym, Quetzalcoatl has made a full recovery. Bradamante wonders if it was wrong that they won with a secret substitute. After Quetzalcoatl gives her opinion, Martha tells Bradamante what’s important is not letting Santa’s power falling in the wrong hands. Altera gives her opinion and tells Bradamante and Quetzalcoatl they’ll need a killer finisher if they wish to win the semifinals. Martha helps Bradamante with her part of the finisher. Bradamante and Quetzalcoatl would go on to win the semifinals thanks to their team attack.

In the finals, Bradamante defeats Black Quetzal Mask (Quetzalcoatl’s evil self). Afterward, The Quetzalcoatls become one again, Bradamante gets her power back, and Ritsuka receives the Christmas Grail. Martha knew Bradamante would win and thinks she never needed her training. She agrees with Bradamante that they may meet again, saying the two of them will always be comrades in arms. Bradamante then disappears, wishing everyone a merry Christmas.

Interlude[]

Saint of the Dragon and Sea[]

Martha, Ritsuka and Mash go to France after she sensed a distortion on the Marseille coast. There she tells the others of her past before Romani tells them that multiple magical energy signatures have been detected under the sea. Martha uses Tarasque to guide the swarm of incomplete dragon subspecies to shore. Afterwards, the group the swarms of wyverns that appeared.[11]

The Desired Saint[]

Martha goes to Rome with Ritsuka and Mash, sensing that something is wrong in that era. The group destroy ghosts there followed by a demon. Afterwards, Martha expresses that even though she perceives her summoning as a Heroic Spirit as unnatural, she believes it was done for the purpose of saving the world, for which she thanks Ritsuka and Mash.[12]

Other appearances[]

In the manga adaptation of Fate/Apocrypha, Martha made a cameo as a possible Ruler-class Servant.[13]

Abilities[]

Martha is a Dragon-Slayer and a very dependable Servant.[11] Romani Archaman states that while a Demon possessing the power equal to a dragon is scary, he is actually more afraid of Martha.[12]

Combat[]

Martha can perform distant attacks through her prayers (magical attacks). She can deliver damage to the target by praying on her lengthy cross-staff that she carries, of which it can be visibly seen as a spear. This is not with something that causes an impact or violently explodes because of a fireball or an energy wave flying through the air, but an attack where after Martha’s cross-staff starts to shine, the target will automatically emit a magical light and “explode” or “burst apart”. There is almost never the course for that, but those results can be generated.[1]

Martha was able to easily defeat and knock out Bradamante[9] and later on she managed to defeat Jaguar Man. Bradamante implied that Martha is better at melee attacks than Samba Quetzalcoatl.[10]

Skills[]

Class Skills[]

  • Magic Resistance (A Rank): Nullifies spells that are Rank A or below. Modern mages would not be able to wound her with magecraft.[1]
  • Riding (A++ Rank): It is possible for Martha, who materialized as a Rider, to operate all vehicles and beasts freely. In addition, regarding the Dragon Species, it should originally not be possible for one to manage them with the Riding Skill, but it is exceptionally possible for Martha to ride them.[1][2]

Personal Skills[]

  • Divinity (C Rank): As a fellow traveller in the Messiah's journey, and as the saint who suppressed the evil dragon Tarasque, the child of Leviathan, Martha became a subject of worship and reverence.[2]
  • Miracle (D→D+ Rank): Miracles that occasionally make the impossible possible. Although a part of this has similarities with the Pioneer of the Stars Skill, it is something essentially different. There are also differences regarding the things this can be applied to.[1][2]
  • Holy Maiden of the Waterside (C Rank): Having drifted on board a boat and reined in the Tarasque by the Rhône’s riverbank, Martha has deep connections to water. Upon perceiving a waterside, Martha’s offensive power rises. She gets on board.[1]

Noble Phantasms[]

Martha's first Noble Phantasm is Tarasque: O' Dragon's Shield that Shall Not Let a Blade Pass which temporarily summons the shell of the monster Tarasque, protecting herself and her allies.[1]

Martha's second Noble Phantasm, Tarasque: O' Tragic Drake Who Knew Naught of Love, manifests the entire Dragon which thoroughly burns and smashes the enemy camp into nothingness with his Giant Iron Armoured Dragon’s Scorching Great Spin Attack.[1] Its great burning heat is equal to the SunWP.[11] With it, Martha can handle fighting multiple Servants at once, and Jeanne d'Arc Alter considers it is perfect for destroying Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Marie Antoinette, Mash Kyrielight, and a weakened Jeanne Alter simultaneously.[5] However, Martha states that anyone incapable of defeating her wouldn't be able to defeat Jeanne Alter, who rides Fafnir.[6]

Forms and Alternate Versions[]

Swimsuit[]

« This body surely exists for the sake of the people. »

(Martha)

While Martha is in her swimsuit, she has lost the holy garments and staff and thus is forced to battle with her bare hands. Nonetheless, she hasn't forgotten her vows as a Saint, viewing fighting with her bare hands as meditation.[14]

She remains the same Saint she always was, even if her speech pattern and physical appearance have slighty changed. She also feels slightly uncomfortable in this form, preffering that the fact she is without her staff and garments to go unmentioned and believing that God is testing her.[14][4]

Personality[]

Martha's state of being has become somewhat anxious given that she does not carry her cross.[4] Because of that, it is possible to catch glimpses of her personality before she was given the staff a bit more compared to when compared she is materialized as a Rider.[14][4] She can be a bit frustrated by the circumstances of her materialization, being unsure weither or not the Lord is testing her. But should she be offered the Holy Grail, Martha would not use it to return to her original Saint Graph, as there is only one Holy Grail and she wishes not to be mislead by a fake one.[4]

In this form she has become more caring towards her Master. Without outside interference she will take caring for her Master a little too far, leading to them to appear like her younger sibling.[4]

Abilities[]

Martha fights unarmed, but gains the Holy Knuckles in her Third Stage Ascension. Sherlock Holmes notes that Martha's punches are not mere jabs, but powerful blows that could put down any ordinary Servant in short order. One might say that while she has a rather slender Saint Graph, she hides the power of a freight train in those arms of hers. Martha also displays great stamina, and the rhythm of her breathing sounds like the roaring of a dynamo.[15] Beowulf states that with her fighting spirit like, it doesn't matter if she is a man or a woman.[7] She is strong enough to break steel and single attack could even pierce a dragon.[4]

Martha was able to incapacitate Karna and Sasaki Kojirou simultaneously in a fight. Later on, Martha defeated Beowulf in a fist fight with a cross counter. He later admits defeat and says that she is stronger than him.[7]

During their fight, Quetzalcoatl statesd that Martha's Saint Graph is sturdy like iron so she doesn't need to hold back while facing her. After they fight for a while, Sherlock stated that it has turned into quite an intense brawl where Martha seems to have landed more punches. Despite this, Martha was unable to bring the fight to an end with regular attacks and was forced to use Jacob's Perishing Fist.[15]

Skills[]
Class Skill[]
  • Magic Resistance (EX Rank): Martha demonstrates high Magical Resistance due to her unwavering piety. However, since this resistance is just allowing her to divert the Magecraft, fundamentally only Martha will be saved in the case of a wide-range magic attack.[4]
Personal Skills[]
  • Jacob's Limbs (B Rank): An old method of hand-to-hand combat that was continuously inherited from Jacob, to Moses, and finally to Martha. If one reached its limits, they could triumph even over an Archangel. According to legends, a Saint who mastered this can surely beat to death an angel of destruction that leads 12,000 angels.[4] It is specialized for use against a target with Divinity.[15] Because of this Skill she can use Tarasque: O' Tragic Drake Who Runs Wild.[4] Martha states that while she possesses Jacob's fists, there is definitely still room for her to grow.[15]
    • Pacifying Raging Beasts: A fighting style where Martha focuses her strength to enhance her attacks used primarily against raging beasts. Martha taught Bradamante this style, who later used it to defeat Penthesilea.[16]
    • Jacob's Perishing Fist: Also called the "fist of justice", Martha's trump card consists of Martha putting everything into an inverted thrust at the cost of leaving her stomach wide open.
  • Holy Maiden of the Waterside (B+ Rank): Having drifted on board a boat and reined in the Tarasque by the Rhône's riverbank, Martha has deep connections to water. That disposition was strengthened by changing into a swimsuit at this occasion. Upon perceiving a waterside, Martha’s offensive power rises. She gets on board.[4]
  • Natural Body (Sea) (A Rank): Martha's body, which was undressed from holy garments, is perfect as a living being. It is amazing when undressed. It is a Skill that denotes the absoluteness of the body, but it also functions as a charm Skill towards others.[4]
  • True Name Discernment (C Rank): Automatically grasps a Servant's True Name as well as their entire status information during a direct encounter. However, in regard to Servants who possess concealment abilities, a success of a Luck Check becomes a requirement to bypass those abilities.[4]
  • God's Resolution (A Rank): The supreme privilege of a Ruler. One can exercise two Command Spells for each Servant participating in a Holy Grail War. However, Martha does not use this Skill in Fate/Grand Order, believing that since she isn't in a proper Grail War, the role of a Ruler should be different.[4]
Noble Phantasm[]
  • Tarasque: O' Tragic Drake Who Runs Wild: An attack where Martha summons Tarasque to crash into her opponent before unleashing a barrage of blows onto the dragon, dealing more damage to the target, until the dragon explodes.

Development[]

Creation and Conception[]

Martha was designed by Mineji Sakamoto in Fate/Grand Order.[1][2][14][4] Hikaru Sakurai is the scenario writer for her character.[1][14][4]

Comments from Illustrator[]

"Its shape is distorted by her breasts so it is hard to comprehend, but the exposed section of her torso is in the shape of a cross."[1]

"There was a suggestion to have a facial expression of the so-called 'embarrassed laugh followed by sticking out her tongue' look, and it is nice that it came out OK."[4] (Swimsuit Ver.)

    Profile
A holy woman from the 1st Century who appeased the evil dragon Tarasque.
Guided by the words of the Messiah, whom she and her siblings gave a warm reception, she became a believer.
A perfect person, possessing beauty and overflowing with charm.
--a holy maiden that made a frightening monster fall madly in love.

    Height/Weight: 158cm・41kg
    Source: Historical fact, New Testament
    Region: Europe
    Alignment: Lawful Good Gender: Female
A Rider that can exceptionally mount the Dragon Kind.

    Level 2 Bond
She did not abandon her faith even after the messiah was executed, avoiding death even after being exiled by the Roman viceroy of the time, and drifted to South France upon receiving the grace of God.
At the city of Nerluc, by the Rhone River, she ended up confronting a cruel dragon that was tormenting the people.

    Level 3 Bond

    • Miracle: D

A miracle that makes the impossible possible. A Personal Skill.
Although it has some similarities with the Skill Pioneer of the Stars, it is something essentially different.
There are also differences regarding the things that it can be applied.

    Level 4 Bond
A perfect holy woman both in the outside and the inside. Maybe due the existence of her younger sister, but she basically displays older sister-like behavior a lot.
Kind, chaste and gentle -- a person that is always shining.
Still... especially towards those she grew close to, she may also show "a Martha who is not a holy woman".

    Level 5 Bond
In this "Martha who is not a holy woman", her words and facial expressions turn sharp, and she becomes dynamic and determined. This is the figure of the "town girl who lived together with her siblings", from before turning into a holy woman.
Still, even while displaying such behavior, her core remains unchanged as that of a holy woman. In short, it is a difference of having a filter at ON or OFF.

    Interlude
Saint Marta has no wish for Holy Grail that is not that of the Messiah. Just like in the past, she will remain a holy woman even after having manifested as a Servant.
Therefore, she will be cooperative with the activities of the Master.
So long the Master continues to walk on the proper path.
