During his reign, the punishment of impalement for the general masses was not an unusual penalty in the Northern Mediterranean area that included the Balkan Peninsula. With the occasion of Vlad's second enthronement as the Lord of Wallachia, he felt indignation upon seeing the figure of the nobles of his own country excessively repeating acts of depravity and corruption. During this time of his reign as monarch of Wallachia, Vlad instituted a number of somewhat oppressive and punitive policies aimed at the lower levels of the nobility whom Vlad felt had seriously undermined and destabilized his country with their excessive corruption and political maneuverings. Viewing these nobles as the source of the country's ruin, he carried out an unprecedented great enforcement of discipline, and in addition to laws designed to curtail their excesses, what became the keystone of that enforcement was the punishment of impalement towards the nobles, the amount of punishment carried out reaching an unprecedented number among the noble classes alone. It was a shocking reality for Wallachia, which was rigidly segmented into nobles and the masses, and there was nobody among the population that could not feel his severity and dreadfulness. While many believed he was simply trying to reduce the number of rivals and opponents to his rule, Vlad was shockingly ruthless in his approach to justice, targeting commoners and the upper-class with equal viciousness. His kingdom became a land of horrors. Thereafter, impalement became his favorite stunt, and in 1459, there were also deeds such as the impaling of an emissary of the Turks while he was still alive, surviving on the stake for several days before finally succumbing. According to records reported to the Vatican, the number of humans that he impaled during his career is said to have reached 100,000 people, which does not even include the individuals from enemy nations that were executed.
There are three different incarnations of him, Lancer of Fate/Extra, Lancer of Black of Fate/Apocrypha, and Berserker of Fate/Grand Order, each possessing a version of Kazıklı Bey with a different title and different effects.
The Fortress of ImpalementEdit
English | Japanese
Kazıklı Bey: The Fortress of Impalement (串刺城塞, Kushiza Jōsai?) is the weapon of Lancer of Fate/Extra. It is the Noble Phantasm that is synonymous with the Servant who was called "Kazıklı Voyvoda", which means the "Impaler Prince". The Noble Phantasm was also derived from his posthumous title – Vlad the Impaler. It is Dracula's torture of curses and iron hammers released from the demonic spear, a torturous demonic castle (Drakulya) of curse and punishment, the attack affecting all enemy units that deals heavy damage and curses them. Its true value is only displayed in one vs. many situations rather than one-on-one. The pain the target receives increases in proportion to their sins of immorality and depravity found in their souls as a fitting "blow of justice" and divine punishment. It summons countless magic spears and polearms of various shapes and sizes from the surrounding terrain. The target is surrounded and eventually skewered by a massive spear, followed by Lancer hurling his personal weapon at the target, passing judgement on the enemy. The attack ignores the targets' defenses within the game, and it debuffs them with "Sacrifice", which deals damage to the target after a turn. Also, as a hidden component, Kazıklı Bey’s damage is increased when used on people who qualify as “enforcement targets.” If the enemy has committed the crimes of escape from prison, immorality, or violence, Kazıklı Bey’s destructive power increases against them, the enemies being the subjects of his purging. There is no extra damage when used against Hakuno Kishinami because they have no criminal record.

"An incarnation of evil is worthy of the retribution of vice!"
The Lord of ExecutionEdit
English | Japanese
"I’ll turn my compassion and rage into red-hot stakes and skewer you all!"
"And these stakes are not limited, but truly infinite, so despair—"
"and gorge on your own blood! Kazıklı Bey!”
Kazıklı Bey: The Lord of Execution (極刑王, Kyokkei-Ō?) is the weapon of Lancer of Black of Fate/Apocrypha. As that which shares its name with its owner who was called as such, out of fear from how he grimly massacred all those who opposed him, it is the reproduction of the historical event of Vlad III having skewered twenty thousand Ottoman Turk soldiers. The event, reproduced as a "most fearsome Noble Phantasm", is an act that was considered impossible for a human being to commit, nothing short of madness as an "elaborate display of military force that none could match." As it is not a holy sword or divine spear, single stakes prove insufficient and worthless as a Noble Phantasm, unable to produce much destructive power or speed enough to individually provide much trouble to Servants. The true characteristic of the ability is its extraordinary quantity, allowing him to summon approximately twenty thousand stakes that can even overpower Heroic Spirits. While there are those Noble Phantasms of the Anti-Army and Anti-Fortress ranks that can kill hundreds and thousands of enemies at once, it is one of the few able to kill over ten thousand people.
Upon its activation, the ground noticeably shakes, bringing about long and narrow stakes, each several meters in length, from the ground that sprout up "as if trying to reach the heavens." Weaker enemies are unable to react as they are pierced one-by-one, skewering them and hoisting them high-up in the same manner as those who had in life been pierced and left until their remains rotted to become only skeletons, while Servants are able to dodge and destroy them individually to avoid being pierced. Although they are only ordinary stakes, they can be summoned forth upon Lancer's command and them suddenly appearing from the ground makes them difficult to dodge. They can chase after retreating enemies as if predicting their movements, sprout out from already destroyed stakes, and while they target the legs of enemies on the ground, they can also prepare for circumstances like falling enemies. He can easily summon five hundred stakes in three seconds, and although he can only summon forth a maximum of two thousand stakes at any one time, he can limitlessly keep producing them so long as he has energy. Acting as a "force of twenty thousand", it proves itself beyond even the capability of a Heroic Spirit, especially those who are Servants who must save magical energy as their lifeforce.
It is a Noble Phantasm deployable only within a range of one kilometer in his marked domain set up by his Demonic Defender of the State Skill. He has great control over their deployment, allowing him to control them with only a single finger to either attack, defend or regulate their movements while maintaining distance from the enemy. Comparable to a "muddy stream of stakes", they chase the enemy with only minor direction from him, remaining as a physical barrier that eliminates free ground and makes evasion less likely with passage of time. The sight of the pikes imposes a curse-like psychological effect, destabilizing an opponent's mental condition with oppressive anxiety or fear. They can precisely target a group of enemies, or he can send all of them directly at enemy Servants. He can stab through enemies to entrap even the strongest of Servants and precisely avoid killing blows if he should wish. He can easily have himself or his mount walk atop them without difficulty, and used for defense, he can accurately have them sprout in front of him to block projectiles like protective walls. Though the power of each individual stake is low, they deal additional continuous damage through “penetration” for some time after even one of them is stabbed into the enemy, the damage from the stakes piling up.
He has a spear he personally equips himself with to chase after vulnerable enemies and enact the effect of being "skewered" if it should pierce them. If his spear hits the enemy even once, it will cause stakes to be created from within the enemy’s body and pierce them from inside out. Lancer of Red is able to match a thousand stakes by himself with his spear, burn eight hundred with his flames, and block two thousand with his armor, but he is pierced by Lancer's spear three times. The true effect of the ability is not to "create stakes", but rather that the Noble Phantasm itself is "stakes stabbed into the enemy." Once the enemy has received an attack within his territory, it matters not how much the body of the enemy is fortified because the stakes manifest in the state of "already having pierced the enemy." Originating from the enemy's heart and piercing outward, there is no way to avoid them with speed because the attack manifests as "already ending." After having been pierced three times previously, Lancer of Red is stabbed instantly by three stakes from the inside without his armor being able to nullify the damage, and it can be said even the greatest hero will have no way to resist while stabbed with his stakes. When this happens, nothing can be done, and the enemy will end up suffering in excruciating pain until they die.
He is able to utilize Kazıklı Bey outside of his territory, but he is only able to produce them from his body. As they are strengthened by his fame boost, leaving Romania, like when inside the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, will cause them to reduce in power and sharpness. Using Legend of Dracula seals the Noble Phantasm, but the vampire is able to produce similar stakes.
Bloodstained King DemonEdit
English | Japanese
"I will dedicate here my human life that is smeared in blood. "Kazıklı Bey"!!”
Kazıklı Bey: Bloodstained King Demon (血塗れ王鬼, Chimamire-Ō Oni?) is the Noble Phantasm of Berserker. A Noble Phantasm that possess a different name in another Class. His weapons are the "stakes" he shoots out from his body, the stakes of which are generated inside his body. Other than wood, the material properties of the stakes also include bones, flesh, shadows, hair, etc. It is also possible to take in objects that are within shooting range and turn them into stakes. The original Noble Phantasm is a sublimation of the legend about the impaled soldiers shown to Mehmed II, thus treated as an Anti-Army Noble Phantasm. In the above case, the range is overwhelmingly wide and is even possible to combine and manipulate countless spikes. Although this Noble Phantasm does not go that far, it still has enough destructive power to destroy a single Servant.
Unlike his other abilities and Noble Phantasms, which are normally sealed, this variant of Kazıklı Bey is still usable despite Legend of Dracula being active.

01 - Kazikli Bey: Fortress of Impalement
This is this Servant's Noble Phantasm and is synonymous with the Servant himself, who in his previous life was known as Kazikli Voyvoda, or the Impaler Prince. The tortures and horrors released by the multitude of spears that his Noble Phantasm summons inflicts damage equivalent to the immorality and depravity found in the soul of the targeted opponent and can be seen as a form of divine punishment.
During the time of his reign as monarch of Wallachia, Vlad instituted a number of somewhat oppressive and punitive policies aimed at the lower levels of the nobility whom Vlad felt had seriously undermined and destabilized his country with their excessive corruption and political maneuverings. Aegis of the Divine [A+++]
An ability bestowed upon those who have sacrificed themselves for what they believe to be greater good. Although obstinately a form of divine protection, it does not necessarily mean that one has received the blessing of the gods. Instead, it is a manifestation of one's absolute faith and self-righteousness...
However, the more powerful this ability becomes, the more detrimental the effect it has on a person's sanity and personality.
Gives one the strength and vitality to escape from even the most dire of situations. It also gives one the ability to successfully retreated to allied territory if defeated.
Seraphic Monstrosity [A]
Dracula. Once the name of a proud family worthy of honor and respect, it is now a name given to a monster whose past has been grossly distorted as a result of his actions in his mortal life. The influence of perception has transformed both his abilities and appearance.
Also, this skill cannot be altered or removed.
01 - Character Background
Considered a heroic figure in Romanian history, he was seen as a noble warrior who rebuilt and maintained the kingdom of Wallachia as well as the shield of Christendom against the threat of the Ottoman Empire.
The name Dracula was the most common appellate used when referring to Vlad III during his reign as King of Wallachia. Originally a duke appointed to his office under the auspices of the Eastern Roman Empire, he adopted many of the customs of that country's court, including signing all documents in the early Roman style. The name itself comes from his father's (Vlad II) enrollment into the Order of the Dragon, a monarchial chivalric order founded by Sigismund of Hungary, who later ascended to the throne of the Holy Roman Empire. His father took the surname Dracul and Vlad III appended the "a", signifying that he was "the son of Dracul."
The Order of the Dragon's primary purpose was to defend the Christian world from the increasing influence and might of the Islamic Ottoman Empire, a calling that Vlad III enthusiastically embraced. It is believed by some that he took the name Dracula not only in honor of his father, bus as also as an announcement of his intentions of safeguarding all of Christendom against the Turks as the "Son of the Dragon."
In order to protect Wallachia from what he considered the ravaging Turkish hordes, he instituted a series of conscriptions and laws that almost destroyed the noble class and stability of his realm, as well as resorted to measures considered to be beyond monstrous even by the somewhat barbaric standards of the time. His cruelty and savagery was such that at one point he had over 20,000 captured enemy soldiers impaled in an effort to intimidate his foe. In the end he was betrayed by the nobles he had turned his back on and was assassinated at the age of 46 years old.
02 - "Dracula"
Known as one of the greatest monsters of modern history, the inevitable distortions and exaggerations of scholars throughout the centuries cannot wholly cover the well-documented horrors and atrocities committed by his direct commands. Although he is seen as a hero and savior by some, the lengths he went to preserve the independence of Wallachia and to repel the Turk will forever paint him as an incarnation of satanic evil on Earth.
This was the year in which he first used impaling not only as punishment, but also as a form of psychological warfare in order to slow down the advances of the Turkish invasion into the western kingdoms. With a force of just 10,000 troops, Vlad III made extensive use of what are now known as guerilla and scorched-earth tactics to harass and weaken the enemy forces, which at one points consisted of over 150,000 soldiers. At one point, he drove his forces into Carpathian Mountains after annihilating the Turkish forces surrounding the city of Bucharest.
The scene that the main Turkish force encountered when they finally arrived to help the city was one of nightmares. Surrounding the entire city was a vast forest comprised entirely of impaled soldiers, some 20,000 in total. It is said that the lines of impaled Turks stretched for kilometers in every direction. The sight of their comrade's bodies impaled on stakes in combination with the overpowering stench of decay broke the morale and spirit of the Turkish army. Even Mehmed II , son of the Turkish Sultan and known as the conqueror, was shaken and ordered his forces to withdraw, saying the following:
"I fear no man alive, but even I cannot hope to fight the devil."
In the end, Vlad III rationalized his brutality and his lack of remorse gave him a battle vision far superior to those he faced. However, his actions made him a pariah amongst even his supporters and his life came to a tragic end due to betrayal.
On an unrelated note, many military historians theorize that Vlad's actions against the Turks are the first time that guerilla warfare tactics made their appearance and that they were the reason for his many successes against a demonstratively superior force. If one is to have so much success defending something only to be repaid with treason and assassination, isn't it reasonable to assume that one would go insane from rage and disappointment?

The Fortress of Impalement [Noble Phantasm]
Lancer’s anti-army Noble Phantasm.
This is a Noble Phantasm derived from Vlad III’s posthumous title – Vlad the Impaler.
It’s a magic torture castle that pierces victims with magic lances which curse and deal heavy damage.
The pain caused by it increases depending on the immoral and deprave sins they have committed; it’s truly an attack of great justice.
In the game, Mandragoras, screaming as though they were dying, burst out from under the feet of enemies and pierce them with countless lances that cause huge damage.
Furthermore, the attacks apply the negative status effect “curse.”
The attack affects all enemy units, so it’s true value is only displayed in one vs. many situations rather than one-on-one.
Also, as a hidden component, Kazikli Bey’s damage is increased when used on people who qualify as “enforcement targets.”
If the enemy has committed the crimes of escape from prison, immorality, or violence, Kazikli Bey’s destructive power increases. There is no extra damage when used against the protagonist because they have no criminal record.
At the time Vlad III was alive, punishing commoners with impalement wasn’t unusual in the Balkan Peninsula and Northern Mediterranean Sea areas.
But then, after Vlad III took up the role as Wallachia’s lord and leader for the second time, he became fed up with the extreme corruption and depravity of the nobles in his country.
He decided that the decline of Wallachia was due to these nobles, and took decisive action against unprecedented numbers of them. His primary method of enforcement and punishment was impalement.
In Wallachia, where nobles and commoners had previously been subject to very different treatment and rules, it’s presumed that Vlad’s actions were extremely shocking.
There was surely no one in the land who did not feel the severity and horror of Lord Vlad’s actions.
After routing the nobles, impalement became Vlad’s favorite method of punishment, and in 1459 he even went so far as to impale the emissary of the Ottoman Empire (Turkish Empire) alive, among other deeds.

The Lord of Execution [Noble Phantasm]
Kazikli Bey. Lancer of Black’s Noble Phantasm. It can unleash a maximum of twenty thousand stakes in the territory he has set up with his skill “Demonic Defender of the State”. It can be used to attack, defend or regulate the movements of the enemy. Due to the being set up in Romania, the territory created by “Demonic Defender of the State” here is the largest of any Holy Grail War. Not only does the damage from the stakes pile up, they attack one after another with overwhelming numbers reaching twenty thousand, living up to Vlad III’s nickname “Lord of Impalement”.
Though the power of each individual stake is low, they deal additional continuous damage through “penetration” for some time after even one of them is stabbed into the enemy. …Well, the fact that there was an unbelievable Servant who would circulate fire through his own body in order to incinerate the stakes within him was probably a miscalculation for Vlad.

Vlad III, the Lord Impaler
He is the lord impaler of the Principality of Wallachia. Motivated by a love of his nation and a duty to maintain its sovereignty and power, he purged all who would oppose its interests. Though there is an aura of danger about him, he in fact possesses a modest and considerate personality; but his opinions and unrestrained manner of expression lend easily to the impression that he is a sociopath who has disengaged himself from the standard mores of society. He tries to ignore the reputation of the vampire modeled after him in a mature manner -- but somehow, representations of him that he comes across will end up being destroyed.

This is the real man (1431-1476) who was the model for the legend of Dracula. He had a very clear sense of justice but was also brutal, as he executed about one fifth of the population of his country through his life. His homeland, Wallachia, was a small country stuck between the large nations of Turkey and Hungary. He led a tragic life, during which he murdered his father, buried his older brother alive, and went to war against his younger brother. His war against Turkey was a desperate battle including guerrilla warfare and scorched earth tactics, and several times, he left mountains of Turkish enemy soldiers he impaled. He was captured in Hungary due to political circumstances, and spent 12 years in prison. Then, in 1476, he turned his back on Orthodox Church and converted his country to Catholicism; the same year, he died in battle against the Turkish army and his younger brother Radu. He was 45.

ヴラド三世 - バーサーカー

Fate/Apocrypha material - Encyclopedia: Lancer of “Black” [Servant], p.164-165 [T]
Lancer of “Black” [Servant]
One of the Servants of the Black camp and the man who leads them. His true name is Vlad III, the protector of Romania, but his other name of “Dracula” is more overwhelmingly famous in the rest of the world outside of Romania. Due to Bram Stoker’s novel “Dracula”, he, who was formerly a local hero of Romania, instantly rose in fame worldwide as the classic example of vampires.
…Originally, Dracula meant “Son of the Dragon” and was far removed from a vampire. The reason why he became the classic example of vampires is due to none other than the fact that Vlad III’s deeds were too drenched in blood.
His overwhelming cruelty in skewering twenty thousand Turk soldiers caused Mehmet II, who vanquished the northern Roma Empire, to say “I fear no human. But the devil alone is a different matter”. In posterity, several of the episodes in his life were pointed out to be fabrications in order to pin crimes on him, but even so, his cruelty was so great it was forever carved into history.
And on the other hand, his heroic title as the “Shield of Christianity” who protected Romania from the hands of Mehmet II has been re-acknowledged.
Outside of the light novels, he also appears in “Fate/EXTRA”. This version of him is a fanatic knight whose appearance, weapons and words are different from the one in these novels, with his aspect as a man who loves his wife emphasized.
In the light novels, he was summoned with his aspect as a monarch emphasized. The fact that he was summoned in his homeland of Romania greatly contributes to this. Thanks to his fame bonus, his parameter ranks are higher compared to when he is summoned in other countries. In addition, he manifested as a Servant with extraordinary power due to his skill “Demonic Defender of the State”.
But even with that, he was gradually cornered by the collective attacks of the Red camp and stepped into a place where he couldn’t receive the benefits of his fame in order to retrieve the stolen Greater Grail.
Just as he was weakened and prepared to die, his Master Darnic appeared before him. He calmly made Vlad choose the most repugnant choice that Vlad wanted to avoid.
Though he is more terrifying than anyone else when enraged, he is fundamentally a military man of integrity who loves his country. Though the topic of vampires is no good with him, he could be called a Servant who is extremely easy to fight alongside if you exclude that point.
His misfortune laid in the fact that the cornerstone of their group, Saber of Black, disappeared before he could fight and, most of all, that his Master was an archetypal magus.
…Even so. His form as he led his troops and tried to protect his country and the Holy Grail was truly noble.
Furthermore, the other compatible class that he is capable of being summoned as is Berserker. In this case, perhaps due to the effects of Mad Enhancement, he would easily accept the fact that he is a vampire and fight as a monster instead of a king. His weapons are the stakes he shoots out from his body.
