Lancer (ランサー, Ransā?) is the Lancer-class Servant of Misaya Reiroukan in the Second Holy Grail War of Fate/Prototype. He is one of the Servants of the Protagonist of the Grand Order conflicts of Fate/Grand Order.
Profile
Appearance
Lancer has a blue tied hair with a long tail much like the other Lancer, red eyes and shows a more younger and stronger body. He use an armor which gives the resemblance of a hunter, but is free of the full-body tights.
Identity
Lancer is an Alternate Version of Cú Chulainn.
Personality
He is described by having a wild, but straightforward and good-hearted personality. Despite his neutrality about choosing a good or evil side, Lancer prefers only justice. Lancer is said to be around 20 years old (a few years younger than his counterpart), and much like Shirou Emiya, he's not yet mature enough to understand that the world is unreasonable and has an inherent balance of good and evil.[1]
Role
Fate/Prototype
Lancer seems to fill much the same role as he did before, tracking down the main character in order to eliminate them. While for his counterpart this seemed to be motivated by Shirou witnessing his battle with Archer, in Fate/Prototype Ayaka Sajyou appears to be a predestined Master for the war, leading Lancer to hunt her down. Lancer pierces Ayaka, however unlike her counterpart Ayaka summons her Servant in this instant, leading to Saber's summoning that seemingly negates any harm from his attack.
Sometime later on during the Grail War, Misaya would die due to a curse that had been inflicted upon her. Masterless, he forms a contract with Ayaka, who had lost Saber to Berseker's Master, Sancraid Phahn. It would be here that he would fight off both Berserker and Saber, corrupted and presumably the original version of Saber Alter, while Ayaka takes on the twisted priest who stole her Command Seals to reclaim Saber. His contract with Ayaka is an exchange for her help in killing the zombiefied Misaya.[2]
Fate/Grand Order
Abilities
Unlike his counterpart in the main series, this version of Cu Chulain seems more like a hunter than a one to one combatant. Tracking Ayaka with a pack of dogs, his intention is to kill her. While he managed to block and fend off her spells just fine with his spear, a sudden attack from Saber's Invisible Air broke his spear in two. The spear however was not Gae Bolg, but instead, it had been a wood spear given to him by his Master.
Beyond his Noble Phantasm, he uses a protective amulet as necklace. He has an exceptional affinity with the familiars raised by Misaya, and also, a worse luck than his counterpart.[3]
Development
Creation and Conception
Takashi Takeuchi was the character designer and Ototsugu Konoe was responsible for the costume design for Lancer. The creation of Gae Bolg is a pivotal moment in determine the direction of Fate. Instead of using numbers, Kinoko Nasu decided that clashes in Fate will be determined by the power of Concepts. It was the Noble Phantasm that shaped the structure of this work.
