Misaya Reiroukan (玲瓏館 美沙夜, Reirōkan Misaya?) is the Master of Lancer in Fate/Prototype. She is the archetype version of Rin Tohsaka. She is a Master of the Second Holy Grail War.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

Misaya is described as "a perfect beauty". She is a young girl with red eyes and long black hair tied into a half up. She wears a white top with a black fur jacket along with navy short shorts and brown boots. She also wears a school uniform in a style like Ayaka's, as well as a V-shape red dress that reveals her Command Seals, located on the back of her neck.

During the events of 1991 Tokyo Holy Grail War, Misaya (as a child) used to wear prim and proper dresses similar to Rin Tohsaka. She also used to wear pure white nightgowns.

Personality[]

Misaya Reiroukan is a noblewoman; she is sadistic, proud, elegant, cruel, and calculative. Though not much is shown, a line said by her during the montage in Fate/Prototype was "I wanted to summon a Hero who was killed by a woman. That way he would know how scary a woman can be."

Despite what can be inferred by this, the Fate/Prototype Material book has a line from Lancer saying he likes her, as she reminds him of his teacher, Scáthach.

As a child, Misaya used to be a very kind and trusting individual who while innocent and naive, carried the traits of a ruler. She loved both her father and mother.

During the 1991 Tokyo Holy Grail War, she was particularly close to Caster whom she considered to be a friend. However, when Caster betrayed her father and killed him, Caster confronted Misaya and coldly told her that "Magi do not have friends in the truest sense of the word." The traumatic impact of Caster's words and the shock of his subsequent betrayal, as well as, her mother's death after the Grail War thus fueled Misaya's transformation into the cruel individual that she is today.

It is also implied that in the years after the 1991 Tokyo Holy Grail War, she may have forgotten what happened due to the shock.

Role[]

Fate/Prototype: Fragments of Sky Silver[]

In the 1991 Tokyo Holy Grail War, Misaya is shown as a younger child version of herself, She is not a Master yet still being very young. Originally, Misaya is a somewhat normal little girl who is studying the basic of her family's magic under the tutelage of her father while attending school.

In December 1990, roughly two months prior to the Holy Grail War, Misaya is practicing reinforcement magic when she gets interrupted by the family's hunting dogs. Petting them, Misaya enjoys the morning scenery. That night, Misaya has a magic lesson with her father. After turning one of their dogs into a demon hound, Misaya's father praises her and then informs her about the Holy Grail War and his participation in it. Noticing her talent, her father permits Misaya to stay at the mansion during the war, while her mother and the other servants stay at their villa in Izu.

Two months later, Misaya's father summons Caster.[2]

Day 4 - Meeting Caster[]

On the fourth day of the Holy Grail War, Misaya is summoned by her father and gets introduced to Caster.

Day 5 - Meeting Rider[]

The next day, a curious Misaya pays a visit to Caster in his workshop. There, he shows her his workshop. As Misaya marvels at all the magical tools and materials, Caster offers to give her lessons. Kindly refusing, Misaya is instead given an Azoth Sword. Misaya then gets excited when she realizes Caster's true name.

Later that evening, Misaya spies on her father's meeting with Rider who has arrived to form an alliance with him. After the pact is signed, Rider reveals that Misaya has been spying on them and curses her through her own Familiar. Misaya almost collapses from the pain. She is released from the curse when Rider leaves.[3]

Day 7 - Making Dinner[]

On the seventh day of the Holy Grail War, Misaya has breakfast alone. That evening, Misaya helps to prepare dinner under the instruction of Caster's Homunculi.

Day 8 - Encountering Berserker[]

Around one a.m., Misaya senses a tear in the Bounded Fields surrounding her mansion. Sneaking outside, Misaya decides to repair the bounded field herself. Reaching the tear, Misaya realizes too late that the tear was created on purpose to lure the other Servants inside. Suddenly, Misaya hears a howl and spots Berserker near the tear. Hiding, Misaya soon gets discovered by Berserker. As Berserker goes to attack her, Misaya gets rescued by Saber who drives Berserker away.[4] After the battle is over, Misaya reports back to her father, Aritoshi Reiroukan, who scolds her for placing herself in danger and forbids her from leaving the house at night.

Later that morning, Misaya has breakfast alone again. Misaya inquires about Caster’s location from the Homunculi and decides to visit him in his workshop to apologize for what happened with Berserker. Locating Caster, Misaya apologizes to him and gives him a full report for what happened earlier that morning. Accepting the information, Caster thanks Misaya and cautions her to be careful as she is more precious to her father than his own life.[5]

« “Please do not forget. Every beloved child who fills this earth is the radiance of a noble star. To your father, Misaya Reiroukan means more than his own life.” »

(Caster to Misaya ~ Fate/Prototype: Fragments of Sky Silver Arc 2: Best Friend Act 3 ~)

That night, Misaya watches as Berserker gets incinerated by the light of Rider's Mesektet and vanishes from the safety of her own home.[6]

Day 9 - Implantation of the Curse[]

On the night of day nine, Misaya has a hard time sleeping because of the battle between Saber, Rider, Lancer and Archer against Berserker. So, she gets up and turns on her radio. Noticing the static, Misaya turns it off. Heading into the hallway, Misaya bumps into Caster who takes her back to her room. He then helps Misaya get back to sleep as they talk about her radio and other modern devices. During this time, Caster secretly finishes placing the curse on Misaya and informs Manaka that it can be activated at any time.

Day 10 - Caster's Betrayal[]

During the Battle of Tokyo Bay, Misaya is at home sleeping when Manaka Sajyou infiltrates her dream and activates the curse on her. Waking up, Misaya discovers her father bursting into the room. Collapsing on the floor from the pain of breaking his Self-Geas Scroll with the Rider Camp, Misaya's father tries to warn Misaya of Caster's betrayal and informs her of the lethal incurable curse that has been placed on her. Misaya's father then further explains to Misaya that she must seek out and obtain the Holy Grail as that may cure her condition.

Apologizing, Misaya's father cries as stabs her in the chest with a knife Mystic Code and casts suppression magic into her curse.[7]

Day 11 - Aftermath[]

On the morning of Day 11, Misaya wakes up to discover the mansion empty and her stab wound gone. Searching the mansion, Misaya discovers her father dead in the courtyard. Shocked, Misaya grabs her father's hand and recalls the moment when her grandfather died. Suddenly, Caster appears behind her and confirms that he was the one who killed her father and placed the curse on her. Caster then places his hands on her cheek and whispers, "Magi, do not have friends in the truest sense of the word" into her ear before leaving to join Manaka.

After this point, not much is known about what happens to Misaya. However, it is implied that someone (likely Sancraid Phahn, the Overseer) discovered her and contacted her mother at the Izu Villa. She then stays at the mansion for the rest of the war with her mother and servants.

On the morning of the last day of the Holy Grail War, Misaya is present when her butler carries in a unconscious Ayaka Sajyou. The butler explains that a man (Saber) carried her here and ask that the family take care of her. Consenting, Misaya asks the butler to take Ayaka to a room. She then watches over and takes care of Ayaka until she wakes up.

Fate/Prototype[]

Misaya is the version of Rin Tohsaka that was to be used in the original Fate/stay night novel which had been penned but was left uncompleted. In Prototype, information on her has been expanded on to show she has savage black dogs as her familiars along with her summoned Servant, Lancer. They worked together in tandem in order to hunt down another potential Master, Ayaka Sajyou, and kill her.

Much like Rin, she had lost her father in the previous War. However, she is cursed. The curse was cast by her father who had thrown everything away to attain the Grail, stating "Die if you do not become a Master and get the Grail". Around the start of middle school, Misaya's mother also falls sick and dies from an illness, leaving her all alone. Instead of dwelling in sorrow, Misaya becomes determined to protect everyone and decides to focus on training herself for the upcoming Holy Grail War. During this period, she forsakes any friendships she might make.

At the start of the Second Holy Grail War, Misaya summons Lancer and orders him to attack Ayaka with her dogs. When this ends in failure, she berates Lancer for failing in his task and commands him to attack Archer next. On another day, Misaya arrives early at school and watches the students arrive from a window on the second floor. Suddenly, she then spots Ayaka and notes how carefree she is. She then turns her attention to the north side school building and senses something is amiss there. However, before she can pry further, she is called away by a classmate.

On the seventh day, after Lancer had crossed blades with Saber, Archer and Rider in separate battles, Misaya is outside feeding her dogs while she and Lancer have a strategy meeting. During this meeting, Misaya asks if Lancer is dissatisfied with her plan and suggests that he is, because she won't let Lancer use Gáe Bolg. She then further insinuates that he thinks it is because she is still scarred from Caster's betrayal. However, Lancer replies that he is fine with their strategy, but is instead angry about how she is not taking the offense towards other Masters even though she has a time limit, so he thinks she should forgo any notion of elegance. She rebukes him, causing him to simply shrug and think of the similarity to his teacher and Medb.[8] Changing the topic to Heroic Spirits, Misaya reveals that she wished for a "hero who was killed by a woman" because they already know how to fear women. Smirking, Lancer praises her, but advises her to change her attitude otherwise she won't make a single friend. Misaya smiles and declares that is fine, reiterating that she doesn't need friends.[9]

In another part of the war, Misaya is researching Sancraid Phahn in her family library with Lancer standing guard over her.

Later, Misaya and Lancer face off with Ayaka and Saber again. However, this time, Misaya and Lancer manage to get the upper hand against Saber due to the difference in the Masters' capability and seriously wound him. As Misaya berates the pair, Saber calls Misaya a terrible Master, causing Lancer to say that it's "the end" to be told such by Saber of all people. Infuriated, Misaya orders Lancer to slowly torture him. Lancer does so. In the process, Saber manages to get away, but is forced to release Excalibur from Invisible Air, using it to bring Ayaka to safety. Lancer experiences great joy in seeing Saber unleash his Noble Phantasm, praising him as a knight among knights. When Ayaka brings up his comment about her also being a horrible Master, Lancer then reveals he was speaking of Saber's former Master, Manaka Sajyou.[10]

Towards the middle of the actual war, she would die due to this curse and her Servant, Lancer, would form a contract with Ayaka, who at that time had lost Saber to Berserker's Master, Sancraid Phahn. During Ayaka's first battle with Sancraid, she recalls a conversation she had with Misaya. In the flashback, she recalls how Misaya scolded her for her indecisiveness.[9]

However, it's said that the person who had really cursed her was not her father, but ■ ■. Her father had struggled to undo the curse, to no success, after which ■ ■ kills him. The curse covers her entire body, killing her. ■ ■ then transforms her into a "Fallen" (a shambling zombie).[1]

Abilities[]

Despite nothing being shown by the animated version beyond her created familiars and the capacity of sealing Gae Bolg, it's said in the Prototype material that Misaya has the abilities of Rune Magecraft, Black Magic and all sorts of summoning spells.[1]

As a child, Misaya displayed tremendous natural talent with Magecraft. She was capable of summoning and using animal familiars and was subsequently able to use her clairvoyance in conjunction with them to see through their eyes. She could also repair Bounded Fields.[4]

Comment from Takeuchi Takashi: The original form of Fate/Stay Night’s Tohsaka Rin. Although this time we started over with design, I think the resultant design was faithful to the image that the original author had.

Explanation: A flawless and beautiful woman. Extremely proud, showy and cruel. A sadist. Ayaka’s rival and an ojou character, but isn’t of the “ohohoho~” type. The magus family she was born into is several levels higher than the Sajyou family. The two fathers were old acquaintances, but Misaya did not meet Ayaka until after she became a Master. By the way, among the Holy Grail War’s Master ranks, “Princes” and “Thrones” have the same position.
Because of her father’s persistence in wanting to realize the Holy Grail, a curse of “If you become a Master and do not obtain the Holy Grail, you will die” was put on her. That is, after becoming a Master, if she did not achieve victory, she would die. In reality, the one who cursed her was not her father but ■■. Although Misaya’s father struggled to dispel his daughter’s curse, he was murdered by ■■. In the middle of the story, the curse spreads to her entire body, and she dies. After this, she becomes a living corpse on the verge of becoming a fallen angel.
