Saber (セイバー, Seibā?) is a Saber-class Servant able to be summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.

Saber's True Name is Lancelot, also known as the Knight of the Lake (湖の騎士, Mizūmi no kishi?), the person serving as a negative symbol of the Arthurian legend.[3][4] The "Knight of the Lake", admired as the strongest even among the Knights of the Round Table.[3] He was extremely loyal to King Arthur as one of the Knights of the Round Table. Lancelot's downfall began when he fell in love with Artoria's queen, Guinevere.[5] It is said that the tragic love story of Diarmuid Ua Duibhne and Grainne later became the story model of Guinevere and Lancelot.[6]

He was originally born and raised in France.[7] Having lost his parents as a child, he was raised by the fairy of the lake Nimue and thus gained the alias "Knight of the Lake".[3]

He had heard rumors of the King of Britain. He believed the King of Knights in Britain was pure nonsense. He began to compare himself with the King of Knights until he decided to travel to Britain to see the legendary king with his own eyes.[7]

He met the King as soon as he landed in Britain in the midst of battle. It carved a deep impression of the King when he saw the sight of a young boy riding on his horse, gallantly swinging her sword in a horde of invaders. It proved how wrong he was, the requirement to battle day and night was not physical attributes but it was one who holds unwavering convictions. Lancelot had fought together with the King in that battle, and for his accomplishments he was granted the honor of speaking with her as a friend and invited to Camelot as a guest. Before long, he began desiring a seat on the Round Table. He became a knight among the Round table and saw many battles.[7]

He had many famous exploits, including once hiding his name and disguising himself to enter a horse race for the sake of a friend’s honor. Even after falling into a trap and being forced to face the enemy's blades with only his bare hands, he had proved victorious with his skilled fighting prowess using only an elm branch.

When Sir Tristan left the castle saying King Arthur does not understand how others feel.[7] It was those words that began to trigger his insanity.[8] Sir Lancelot wishes to lessen the burden for his King, a wish that Guinevere also held. They conversed with each other and came to recognize each other as friends and rely on the other. It was then that Sir Lancelot became attracted to her. He learnt the King's secret from her.[7] Though the king was actually a woman, she had married in order to maintain the pretense that she was a man and the image of a stable royal family. Guinevere, in turn, willingly sacrificed her own life as a woman in order to preserve this ideal government.

When Lancelot and the queen began their affair, the Knight of the Lake considered fleeing Camelot with her, but his loyalty to Artoria and his sense of duty prevented him from doing so. When political enemies of the king learned about the affair, Agravain, who was working for Morgan le Fay, exposed the adulterous relationship to the public. The queen was ordered to be executed. Lancelot attempted to save her, killing several of his fellow knights including Gawain's siblings, Gareth and Gaheris, in the process.[9] He fled back to his own domain.

Lancelot, who was considered the perfect knight, Guinevere, the queen who had made her beloved betray his duty, and Artoria, the king who blamed herself for her loyal knight's despair, all suffered from the resulting fallout. Although Artoria forgave Lancelot's actions, Gawain still bore great hatred towards Lancelot for his betrayal and the death of his brothers.[9]

His disloyalty fractured the balance among the Knights of the Round Table. This incident eventually became the trigger of civil war and carnage, and the country shattered to pieces in the flames of war.[4] Lancelot, even after being excommunicated, wanted to participate in the Battle of Camlann to serve his King but Gawain hostilely rejected him, which resulted in the downfall of his King and country.[9]

In his condition, summoned under the Saber Class is the closest to his original form. Caring for justice, honoring women, loathing evil - this virtuous figure overflowing with romance was acknowledged as the "ideal knight" by King Arthur.[2]

“A noble knight? Don't make me laugh. I participated in the destruction of Britain!”

Lancelot himself probably feels more than anyone else that it is an irony for him to be a Saber. And thus Lancelot is convinced that the most appropriate Class for himself is Berserker.[2]

Fate/Grand OrderEdit

Lancelot, along with the other Knights of the Round Table, is summoned by the Lion King in the "Camelot" Singularity. The Lion King gives them the choice to either aid her in her "Holy Selection" or side against her, giving them a half a day to decide. Lancelot, although he was loathe to admit it, realizes that the Lion King is making the best out of a bad situation, deciding to side with her, along with Gawain, Agravain, Tristan, Gareth, and Mordred. They then kill their former comrades and form the Knights of the Lion King. He receives the Gift of "Ferocity" from the Lion King, due to vowing to ascertain the situation as a person, not martyring himself to justice.

The group sets out to the Holy Land, slaughtering any who side against them there and engaging the False Crusaders in battle. They easily defeat the Crusaders, except their leader, the Servant who claims to be Richard I. He manages to hold off the knights, possessing immense power. Finally, Gareth sacrifices herself by restraining their opponent using her own body, giving the Knights the opportunity to deal the final blow. Despite understanding Gareth's noble act of sacrifice, Lancelot is unable to move his body to attack, not wanting to once more do the deed. Instead, Gawain manages to deal the lethal strike, killing both Gareth and their opponent. The Lion King and her knights thus take control of the Holy Land, establishing the Holy City.[10]

Camelot: Sacred Round Table RealmEdit

Lancelot continues the Holy Selection of Lion King, but unlike the other Knights of the Lion King, Lancelot is not completely loyal to the Lion King. He hides away the people that are not fit for the city, instead of killing them, as the others presume. When Chaldea arrives in the Singularity, Lancelot is away from the city, currently returning from a mission. The Hassan of the Cursed Arm mentions that he had killed the Hassan of the Quaking Pipe at some point.

Lancelot chases after the Chaldea group on the orders of the Lion King. Da Vinci stays behind, giving the group time to escape, while she seemingly sacrifices herself.[11] However, Lancelot instead saves her and takes her to his hideout.

Later on, Lancelot and Tristan lead an attack against the Western Village, with Lancelot cutting down Arash, though he fails to kill her. He is later shocked when the Lion King utilizes Rhongomyniad to destroy the village.[12] Later, when Lancelot and Tristan are being questioned about their mission by the Lion King and her knights, he questions why she used the Holy Spear, believing it to be an excessive measure. Lion King, however, explains that due to her Holy Selection being so close to completion, angering the Mountain Villages doesn't matter anymore, though Lancelot is unsatisfied with this answer. After hearing about the Chaldea group heading towards the Egyptian territory, Agravain blames Lancelot and declares him to be imprisoned, but Lancelot instead suggests chasing after the group. Lion King allows him to do so, with Lancelot heading away quickly.[13]

Lancelot and his forces manage to catch up with Chaldea, who are searching for the Atlas Institute. The Chaldea group, Ritsuka Fujimaru, Mash Kyrielight, Bedivere, Xuanzang Sanzang and Tawara Touta, attempt to fight Lancelot, but are overpowered by him. However, they manage to escape, falling into the Atlas through the ground. Later as they emerge, they once again face Lancelot. The group then informs Lancelot of the Lion King's true plan to store the people of the Holy City into the Holy Spear to "protect" them from the Human Order Incineration, kept as her ideal samples of humanity. Though Lancelot is shaken by this, he refuses to oppose the Lion King. This. however, causes Mash, influenced by her connection to Galahad, is angered by Lancelot's behavior and manages to defeat him in battle. After his defeat Lancelot agrees to help the group, deciding to bring them to his hideout, where the group reunite with Da Vinci.[14]

Lancelot helps Chaldea in their struggle against the Lion King, accompanying on their quest to Ozymandias' territory and helping in formulating the strategy for the final battle against the Lion King's forces. He participates in the final battle, leading his knight forces alongside Chaldea against the forces of the Holy City. He battles against Agravain, who manages to defeat Lancelot, though he is grievously injured.[15]

Salomon: The Grand Time TempleEdit

Lancelot is amongst the "Camelot" Singularity Servants to aid Chaldea against the Demon Gods Pillars.[16]
