Shamhat (シャムハット, Shamuhatto?) is a figure appearing in the Epic of Gilgamesh.

Shamhat served sacred prostitute in Uruk. Anu, fearing that Enkidu would remain a beast, prepared Shamhat for him. Enkidu fell in love at first sight and spent a week with her while slowly learning of himself and losing his bestial nature. He took her form as his own as if to imitate it and assume her beauty.[1][2] She was present during the first battle between Enkidu and Gilgamesh, speaking the words, “I felt as if the World was born seven times, and destroyed seven times” at the sight of their battle.[3]

Shamhat is a "woman whose beauty transcended gender", with long hair that "faintly shines a light-green color" and an appearance looking to be around sixteen years old.[4] Enkidu copied her form, and it is his preferred state despite being able to transform into anything.[4]
