Noble Phantasms- Throughout the "Fate" franchise the series is populated by numerous legendary or otherwise mythical heroes known as "servants" of whom possess incredible mystic codes known as "Noble Phantasms". Each Noble Phantasm is a physical reprisentation of that hero and their capabilities put to the fullest, coinciding with the heroes myth and acting as their trump card during the grail wars, with the power and scale of each Noble Phantasm varying depending on the fame of the specific hero and their weapon, as well as the physical nature of the mystic code itself. As a result each Noble Phantasm is closley associated with the hero; for example King Arthur's Excalibur, Cu Chulainn's Gae Bulg, Fergus Mac Roich's Caladbolg and so on, with each bearing a name that is instantly synonymous with the hero when brought up even outside of the "Fate" franchise.

- As a result, every hero that has or will ever be summoned by the grail through the throne of heroes will always wield a Noble Phantasm, no matter how small or how insignificant. Natrually with legendary weapons being the trademark of a particular hero, it is to be expected that every significant or legendary hero has at least wielded a weapon of sorts that bares a unique name in their lifetime, either out of context such us Francis Drakes's Golden Wild Hunt, Iskandar's Ionioi Hetairoi or within context such as Lu Bu's God Force or Mordred's Clarent.

However, not all the names of legendary weapons survive the test of time and many are lost either to the deepest reaches of ancient literature or are simply forgotten. That is not to say that the weapons themselves disappear all together and references to such unnamed weapons can be found today with full descriptions as to their capabilities and what shape they took before their names were lost.

- While I know this has somewhat dragged on, the purpose of this article and some articles to come is the subject of Legendary Heroic Spirits of whom wield Noble Phantasms that none can remember. In this case we are going to look at the Legendary Irish hero: Fionn Mac Cumhaill; Otherwise known as "Finn McCool"

The Weapon of Finn Mac Cumhaill: Some on this wiki might already know Finn Mc Cumhaill as the guy that was responsible for Fate/Zero's lancer's death during Kayneths's breif flash-back of Diarmuid's past life, having set upon him the Fianna after he stole away his intended wife, before inviting him back into his kingdom on friendly terms from where he was promptly gored to death by a boar during a wild hunt. Finn had the supernatrual power of turning ordinary water into a healing subtance that could cure any wound with a touch, unfortunatly everytime he went to fetch some water, he would deliberatly spill the contents in his hands untill Dairmuid bled to death.

Now the first word that comes to mind for many people is "That Bastard", especially for anime watchers, however what some people don't seem to realize is that if Fionn Mac Cumhaill were to be summoned as a Lancer Servant he would be an absolute killing machine. Sure he doesn't look like much in the flashback, but once you realize that this is a guy who can snap men in two with his bare hands, punch holes in mountains, possesses knowledge of the world and all it's contents and can survive several spear punctures to the skull, you start to realize why he's known as "McCool". Bar Cu Chulainn, Fionn Mac Cumhaill is the Irish hero that most masters would absolutely do anything to get their hands on.

There's just one problem. Nobody knows the name of his chosen weapons. That in itself is a bit of a problem. Of course considering that this is a man that could go toe-to-toe with Fate/Stay Nights's Berserker with his bare fists it's not that big of a deal, but since Irish heroes seem to be the norm for the Lancer servant in the official canon universe (not counting Fate/Apocrypha, Fate/Extra, etc.), having, you know,  A Lance/Spear is kind of a big deal and thankfully we do know that Fionn Mac Cumhaill did in-fact have a lance and a sword as his main weapons of choice.

  • Gae Bulg, the weapon of Cu Chulainn
  • Gae Buidhe

Now I'm not one for independant decision making so this is why I brought it up within the community. We know that Fionn Mac Cumhaill used a spear, of which's special property was to always land it's intended mark, of which was amplified by his strength. We also know that this spear was always poisened even if dipped in pure water, making it so that any wound made by the spear could never be healed. Now the weapons that instantly come to mind for this description are Cu Chulainn's Gae Bulg and Diarmuid's Gae Buidhe as the spear seems to be a combined derivative of two, possibly being either the predecessor or prototype to the two weapons. On top of this we know that Fionn also wielded a sword, often at the same time although said sword seemed to have no special properties to speak of other that it's capacity to not shatter when used by Fionn's immense strength.

Here's were I leave it to you guys. What do you think Fionn Mac Cumhaill's potential Noble Phantasm and how would you name it and rank it? I know this article might seem like a waste of space but after going over a multitude of historical figures and heroes I wanted to learn more about what you guy's thought about unnamed Noble Phantasms.
