Akiha Tohno[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Tohno Akiha [Person's name], p.185

Akiha Tohno [Person's name]
One of the heroines in Tsukihime. Shiki's younger sister, and the Tohno family's heir.
She has long black hair and a dignified posture, firm speech, and an unendearing personality. On top of that, her love of strict discipline can make her somewhat hard to get along with.
Perhaps it's because she doesn't think much of the way Shiki lived doing whatever he pleased for eight years, but she lashes out at him every chance she gets. Though she is basically straightforward and honest at her core, she is also unyielding and hates losing, so her true personality rarely gets a chance to shine.
She was one of the people involved in the accident eight years ago, after which her dormant Tohno blood was awakened. Though she would have been able to suppress it if she only had to worry about herself, she was carrying the burden of two people. As a result, she started being attacked by seizures nearly every night, and at Kohaku's suggestion began drinking blood to maintain her body.
…Of course, it was all just a scheme to push Akiha closer to her Tohno nature. Probably, even Akiha herself was aware of it on some level.
In one of the routes, she ended up inverting and demonstrating her power to its fullest extent. That dreadful form, with its fluttering vermilion hair, she may be equal to or surpass Arcueid.
Long ago, in the Tohno's country, there lived a female oni named Momiji. Though she is not their ancestor, maybe you could consider her the origin of Akiha?
Incidentally, Akiha is the character with the greatest number of individual sprites. It actually made the art director break down in tears. Not only were there uniform sprites and casual sprites, but sprites for Akiha when she was inverted as well.
Also, by some strange twist of fate, her roommate at school actually had the last name "Tsukihime".
She was the only heroine in Tsukihime that didn't get a happy ending, which apparently made a lot of fans mad. We got a ton of hate mail demanding that we do something about it, hahaha. I guess it worked, though, since we ended up writing a sequel to Akiha's ending for Kagetsu Tohya.
She is the student council vice president at the Asagami Academy for Girls, and seems to be quite popular.
…Of course, that popularity stems from equal parts reverence and terror.
In Kagetsu Tohya, the power relationship between her and Kohaku began to change, and in Melty Blood she was the victim of Kohaku's cheerful treachery. Also, though the Akiha in Melty Blood is pretty… energetic, she's normally a little more graceful than that.
She totally lacks the pride and thin skin characteristic of the super-rich, but her sense for how to use money is still grossly out of sync with normal people's.
When she told Sion to "rest a bit", in Akiha's head "a bit" meant either until Sion herself was sick of it, or until she was dead. It seems she's the type of person who's cold to strangers, but excessively soft toward those who have earned her favor. Ah, so that's why you let Kohaku toy with you as she pleases, Lady Akiha!

Akira Seo[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Seo Akira [Person's name], p.183-184

Akira Seo [Person's name]
A student at the Asagami Academy for Girls. Akiha's junior.
She appears in a side story included on the Tsukihime Plus Disc, "Alliance of Illusionary Eyes", and also makes a cameo appearance in Kagetsu Tohya.
Her relationship with Akiha is a comparatively long one, and she has been Akiha's junior ever since she was a member of the middle school student council. She's in the somewhat comical position of idolizing Akiha, yet knowing enough about her terrifying aspects to be afraid of her as well.
She secretly makes doujinshi in her spare time, though very few people at the academy are aware of it. Akiha is the only person that knows about how she sneaks into the toilets in the middle of the night to work on it.
As far as boys are concerned, she's more attracted by their voices than their looks. When she heard Shiki's voice over the phone, it was a dead-center 150 kph fastball strike, or something to that effect. After that, she began to harbor a yearning for Shiki similar to adoration, but since she was scared of Akiha she never called him.
She has the power to see predictions of the future as images (future sight), and because of that ended up being dragged into a murder case.
According to Shiki, it would be great if she was his little sister. If Akiha ever found out he said that, it would end terribly for both Shiki and Akira.
Given that she attends the Asagami Academy for Girls, it should go without saying that she's a well-born girl. Her family runs a large liquor store in Aomori. As you'd expect from somebody growing up in that kind of environment, she can really hold her own when it comes to drinking.
By the way, in kanji "Akira" is written with the character for "crystal". As in, a crystal ball that sees the future.

Aoko Aozaki[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Aozaki Aoko [Person's name], p.175

Aoko Aozaki [Person's name]
One of the five existing Magicians. It seems she hates the alliteration in her full name, and gets mad when people call her by it.
As for why she's a Magician, it's because she arrived there at the end of a long and arduous road. If that's an incomprehensible answer to you, please refer to Kara no Kyoukai. Of course, the details probably still won't make much sense even then.
She had such a large influence on the young Shiki that to this day she is the only person he calls "Sensei".
The story of Tsukihime begins with Aoko and Shiki's first meeting. At that time, she seemed to be an amiable older-sister type, but generally her stance is to avoid getting too involved with other people.
Ever since becoming the Aozaki heir, she has lived the life of a rootless wanderer, roaming the world with a single trunk in hand. Her meeting with Shiki was merely a coincidence, akin to making friends with a local child in the midst of a long journey.
Within the Association, she is known as the Magic Gunner, Miss Blue. Her abilities as a magus are below average, but there are none more talented when it comes to destruction.
Though she is an important person to Tohno Shiki, she only has a minor role in the story of Tsukihime. The incident where she takes the leading role is a story for another time.
In Melty Blood Re-act, she appears as a hidden boss. As expected of someone with the nickname Magic Gunner, it's like fighting a living artillery battery. Also, maybe it's because she's not really taking it seriously, but her apathetic voice is pretty great. At first the production staff was a bit doubtful about the performance, particularly her monotonous "Oh, I guess I lost," but eventually it grew on them. A lot.

Arc Drive[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Arc Drive [Term], p.175

Arc Drive [Term]
The greatest techniques in Melty Blood, the Tsukihime fighting game. In proper fighting game terms, these would be the super moves and super combos. With these, every character gets a chance to flashily show off their skills when the moment is right. Of course, since Arc Drives are the crown jewel of Melty Blood, we wanted to make sure that they were fun to watch, too. My personal recommendations are Arc's Marble Phantasm, Berserk Arc's Moon Drop, and Ciel's Gundam-like attack with the Seventh Holy Scripture.

Arcueid Brunestud[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Arcueid Brunestud [Person's name • True Ancestors], p.176

Arcueid Brunestud [Person's name • True Ancestors]
One of the heroines in Tsukihime. Probably the strongest, most incorrigible character in the story.
She is a True Ancestor, born in the 12th Century for the sole purpose of hunting those True Ancestors that had fallen and become demon lords.
After flushing out all of the Fallen Ancestors, she was commanded to start hunting Dead Apostles as well.
However, when Roa tricked her into drinking his blood, she went berserk and wiped out most of the few remaining True Ancestors, prompting her to seal herself within the reality marble known as the Millennium Castle Brunestud.
From that point on, she left the castle only to hunt down and execute Roa every time he reincarnated.
She is the princess of the True Ancestors, and used to have much longer hair than she does now. The reason for its current length is not because she cut it herself, but because it was stolen from her during a battle with the Dead Apostle Altrouge.
She was originally an existence with no use for emotions, but after meeting (being killed by) Tohno Shiki her state of mind changed dramatically. It's similar to a broken machine that just isn't quite the same when you put it back together.
As a result, the pure and noble vampire princess was, through some mistake, reborn as a carefree, airheaded funny vamp who enjoys taking spontaneous strolls around town. Of course, there are two sides to any coin, and emotion is no different – now when she gets scary, she gets really, really scary. Luckily, despite her apparent optimism, she is actually a pessimist at heart, and so very rarely gets seriously angry.
Because even direct sunlight is just "a little hot" to her, she is free to wander around town as she pleases like some kind of cat, and has even been known to go to school just to bother Shiki and tease Ciel.
In Kagetsu Tohya and Melty Blood, a fragment of the reason for her birth was revealed.
Deep beneath her conscious mind lies a guiding principle known as the "Crimson Moon, which very rarely expresses itself through her surface personality. This is the true identity of the vaguely self-important Arcueid that appeared when Shiki invaded Arcueid's dream (in Kagetsu Tohya), and who confronted the 27 Dead Apostle Ancestors (in Melty Blood). She is colloquially known as "Princess Arc". (Since Berserk Arcueid is normally just Arcueid rampaging around in a frenzy, she's a special case.)
Though she is unmistakably the main heroine of Tsukihime, she doesn't get the amount of screen time you'd expect. It's really quite troubling.
Also, this is just a digression, but the "Nya!" she makes when you do her 5C (charged) attack in Melty Blood Re-act is a must-hear.

Arihiko Inui[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Inui Arihiko [Person's name], p.176

Arihiko Inui [Person's name]
Shiki's partner in crime. He has a tendency to wander. He's been hanging out with Shiki since elementary school, and had the same antisocial attitude and style of dress even then. His parents died in a disaster when he was young, and he was more-or-less raised by his older sister. He's a model outlaw (huh?), and enjoys living a delinquent lifestyle that doesn't bother normal, upright people. In contrast to Shiki, who became an outcast for the sake of those around him, Arihiko did it for himself.
Though he's rumored to be something of a womanizer, his exes have nothing but good things to say about him. It seems he's the kind of Don Juan that wants girls to be happy even after he's parted ways with them.
At first glance, it doesn't seem like he would have very good compatibility with Shiki at all. The tale of how these two destined lovers met is told in Kagetsu Tohya.
The second Arihiko laid eyes on Shiki, he intuitively knew that he was broken. "I've decided, you're going to be my rival." So he declared, while eating the pudding he had just stolen from Shiki's lunch.
In the side story "Nanako-chan S.O.S.", his fate was intertwined with the delinquent elemental Nanako, but normally he hates stuff like ghosts and monsters.

Arima[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKHIME Dictionary: Arima [Family name], p.175

Arima [Family name]
An offshoot of the Tohno family. Of all the branch families, their Tohno blood is the thinnest.
The father's name is Fumiomi, the mother's name is Keiko, and the eldest daughter's name is Miyako.
They took in Shiki when he was nine years old. Their home includes an Ikebana classroom, and something that may or may not be a Kendo dojo. The picture below is of Keiko.

Asagami Private Girls Academy[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Asagami Private Girls Academy [Place name], p.175

Asagami Private Girls Academy [Place name]
The private boarding school for girls that Akiha attends.
It is about an hour away from the Tohno mansion by car. Normally students are forced to live on campus, but Akiha has received special permission to commute to school from her own home. She actually did live in the school dorms when Shiki was living with the Arima, but it seems she forced the matter after he moved back into the Tohno mansion. Unfortunately, the oafish big brother didn't notice his noble little sister's efforts at all.

Atlas Institute[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Atlas Institute [Place name], p.175

Atlas Institute [Place name]
One of the three major branches of the Association. Located in the Atlas mountains of Egypt, it is a place where those dedicated to the study of alchemy gather.
Unlike the modern alchemy that rose to prominence in the middle ages, the alchemy studied by Atlas could be said to be the progenitor of magecraft, and an attempt to unravel the truth of the world.
For some reason they are on extraordinarily bad terms with the Prague Association, and even the Clock Tower, the very heart of the Association, keeps their distance. They are colloquially known as the Giant’s Pit.
In order to avoid the “end” proven by their first director, they endlessly create and dispose of weapon after weapon.
There is a saying in the Prague Association: “Lift not the seal of Atlas, lest ye destroy the world seven times over.”
…The reason being that the weapons created there to save the world are ultimately nothing more than tools that will further its destruction.
Though calling it “one of the three major branches of the Association” sounds nice, in reality it is more like an independent think tank. They have been known, on rare occasions, to loan out their alchemists to other mage’s associations and even the Holy Church upon request.
In order to hire an Atlas alchemist, however, one of the written contracts issued by the Atlas Institute is required. Only seven of these contracts were ever issued, and the Atlas Institute considers their recovery a top priority.

アトラスの錬金術師を借り受けるには、過去アトラス院が発行した“契約書”が必要となる。七枚しか発行していないこの契約書を回収する事がアトラス院の当面の目的だとか。

Black Keys[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Black Keys [Weapon name], p.178-179

Black Keys [Weapon name]
No, not the black keys on a piano. The throwing swords wielded by Ciel.
As for why they're called black keys, refer to the entry on purification.
Ciel carries a large number of these concealed on her person, but what's under her robes is actually just the hilts. She materializes the blades by passing magical energy through pages of the bible. The maximum number she is able to conceal at one time is close to 100.
Also, since black keys are designed specifically for throwing and not for swordplay, in a way they could be considered a kind of bullet.
Though they are counted as one of the basic weapons of the Church, the fact that they're relatively hard to use means that very few executors favor them.

Blood-sucking species[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Blood-sucking species [Term], p.178

Blood-sucking species [Term]
A general term for those that suck the blood of other living creatures.
Dead Apostles and True Ancestors both fall under this classification. Although the terms vampire and bloodsucker were confusingly used to mean different things in Tsukihime itself, you can pretty much think of them as synonymous.
Creatures that suck blood are found all over the world, and they all have different characteristics. Because of that, the term bloodsucker is used as a catch-all term to describe them. In that sense, even Akiha would be considered a bloodsucker.
Moreover, the Church concerns itself with the hunting of vampires specifically. That is, Dead Apostles and True Ancestors. Accordingly, they don't really care about things like the bloodsucking animals of South America, or the vampiric flying heads of mainland China.
Good news, eh, Akiha?

Bow[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Bow [Colloquial term], p.190

Bow [Colloquial term]
Ciel's alias within the Burial Agency. The name comes from the fact that she's the only person in the Burial Agency that fights using firearms.
It seems that Ciel is something of a gunpowder maniac, and the entire reason she changed the Seventh Holy Scripture into its current form was just to fit her own personal tastes.
…Sure, shooting a gun feels nice and all, but I'm a little worried about her. I wonder if there's something strange at work stressing her out…?
Also, in Melty Blood she finally demonstrates skills worthy of this name. So many black keys…

Brainwashing-Detective Hisui[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Brainwashing-Detective Hisui [Colloquial term], p.184

Brainwashing-Detective Hisui [Colloquial term]
An inside joke. It became popular after the release of the Half-moon edition.
In that version of the game, Hisui had an odd habit of saying mind-reeling phrases like "I'll accompany your room." No matter how you look at it, she was definitely trying to brainwash poor Shiki.
Even the art director got in on it, and posted a picture of Hisui trying to brainwash Ciel on the Tsukihime BBS, which was cuter than you might expect.
"You are the culprit."
Later, it was revived as Hisui's Arc Drive in Melty Blood.
Let's confusion!

Brunestud[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Brunestud [Term], p.188

Brunestud [Term]
Despite being Arcueid's last name, strictly speaking it is actually more like a title. It is possessed by all of the members of True Ancestor royalty.
The Millennium Castle Brunestud where Arcueid had sealed herself away is not her original creation, but was actually created in the past by the most powerful True Ancestor, using marble phantasm. That original lord of Castle Brunestud died long ago, but ever since those True Ancestors capable of forming the castle have been uplifted as royalty. This is why the True Ancestors, who have no concept of hierarchy, nevertheless call Arcueid their princess.
After being tricked by Roa and killing most of the True Ancestors, Arcueid crucified herself on the throne of the castle she materialized herself. A thousand chains stretched from the castle's outer walls to the throne, so that she may seal herself away forever.
In Melty Blood, the Tatari Arcueid materialized the Millennium Castle. Later, in Re-act, it also appeared in her Arc Drive.
Currently, there are only two bloodsuckers with the name of Brunestud: Arcueid and Altrouge.

Burial Agency[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Burial Agency [Organisation name], p.188

Burial Agency [Organisation name]
The Holy Church's expert inquisitors.
Not exorcists who cast out devils, but executors who strike them down.
A perfect meritocracy, anybody with the ability to dispose of those things the Church finds inconvenient can become a member.
…Well, it seems they'll baptize you when you join, and the pay isn't too bad either. The agency is composed of seven members including Narbareck, and one reserve member making for a total of eight.
They always work alone, and under no circumstances will they cooperate with the demon hunters of other countries. As they possess absolute authority, there are times when they will defy even the wishes of the Church itself to stamp out heresy. For instance, even if it's an archbishop, if he has been possessed by a devil they have the power and authority to skewer him on the spot. It's no wonder, then, that there are whispers within the Church that the agency itself is a heresy.
Arcueid often receives requests from the Church, and has cooperated with them on numerous occasions to exterminate Dead Apostles. Nevertheless, if she ever showed even the slightest opening, the Burial Agency would move to seal her without a second thought.
Also, two of the 27 Dead Apostle Ancestors, Merem Solomon and El Nahat, are cooperating with them. Though it looks as if they are both being forced to do so, the true reasons for that are unknown.

Caging Hair[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Caging Hair [Unusual talent], p.176-177

Caging Hair [Unusual talent]
Caging Hair. It's the name of the tenth day of the Kohaku route, but here it's referring to the name of Akiha's ability.
Akiha is a demon hybrid that "plunders" the heat of any living being that she is able to visually confirm, and Origami is the name for the maximum output state of this ability. Though the plundering is based on sight, if somebody with spiritual vision were to observe it, they would see it as something similar to red threads twining around and consuming the target in a fiery aura. And, at their maximum output, these threads are capable of covering not just the target, but the entire environment the target is in, making escape impossible – thus the name Origami, or "Caging Hair". During the last day of the Kohaku route, the reason Shiki couldn't escape from the school building was because the school building itself had been totally covered by Akiha's Origami.
Against normal people with no spiritual defenses, this is an absolute method of attack, but against somebody like Arcueid whose spiritual rank is on a whole other level, it would merely be a hindrance similar to the world being filled with spider webs. Though, with backup from a sympath it might be able to actually tie her down.
In Melty Blood, it became both Akiha and Vermilion Akiha's Arc Drive, under the name "Red Lord Origami".
Also, this is just a digression, but the martial arts practiced by the Tohno family are divided into "Blazing Rendition" techniques usable by everybody, and "Red Lord" techniques permitted only to the family head.
These are in turn surpassed by the "Crimson Lord" techniques, which are a taboo even among the taboo.

Ciel[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Ciel [Person's name], p.179-180

Ciel [Person's name]
One of the heroines in Tsukihime. A mysterious upperclassman. At the beginning of the game, she planted a suggestion in both Shiki and the players' heads that she was just an ordinary, strangely named sempai that they already knew. Also, glasses.
In truth, she is the newest member of the Church's inquisition force, the Burial Agency, and is tasked with punishing the Dead Apostle Roa. She infiltrated Shiki's school because she suspected him of being Roa's reincarnation, but in the process of observing him she ended up being charmed by him instead. It wasn't something as simple as falling in love, of course. It's just that she was moved by the fact that Shiki could lead such a carefree life despite having experienced death just like she had.
Due to a certain contradiction, she is an existence that cannot die no matter what happens. She is trying to destroy Roa in order to resolve this state of affairs. She boasts excellent reflexes, and is number seven in the Burial Agency despite her young age. She's not just skilled in martial arts, though. The knowledge of sorcery that she inherited from Roa is equivalent to that possessed by a magus of the rank of Grand – the highest rank in the Association. Even in the Church, where sorcery is officially forbidden, this is regarded as a highly useful asset. However, Ciel herself hates drawing on Roa's knowledge.
Within the Burial Agency she is known as "Bow", due to her preference for using projectile weapons. She fights using all sorts of projectiles – not just throwing swords, but guns as well. In fact, the one responsible for changing the Seventh Holy Scripture from a beast's horn into its current shape was actually Ciel.
Before she was part of the Burial Agency, she was the daughter of a baker. Her dream was to become a cake maker, and she already had some skill at making sweets.
…Though it seems she has no interest in making Western-style sweets anymore, on account of it dredges up memories of the past.
Her reputation as a curry lover has grown with each successive appearance, and at this point her name itself is synonymous with the stuff. As for why she loves curry so much, Takeuchi made a manga about it. It's probably about half true.
Always seems to end up playing second-fiddle to the other heroines. Maybe it's because of her magnanimous, all-forgiving nature?
Oh, well, at least her hand-to-hand combat action in Melty Blood ended up being really cool, since she was conceived of as a battle-type heroine from the very start.

Ciel-sensei[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Ciel-sensei [Colloquial term], p.180

Ciel-sensei [Colloquial term]
Administrator of the Tsukihime Help Corner.
The fact that she fits even better here than in the main story is almost frightening. As for why it's Ciel, well, basically we figured if we could turn an older-sister type character into the current Ciel, then turning the half-baked upperclassman Ciel into a teacher should be fine.
Since her partner Neco Arc made her solo debut in Melty Blood Re-act, there's a part of her that wants to force her way onto the stage, too.

Ciel Somer[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Ciel Somer [Technique name], p.180

Ciel Somer [Technique name]
Not, as you might think, a misspelling of "Ciel Summer".
One of Ciel's new moves in Melty Blood Re-ACT. All her other moves are named normally, but this one is Ciel Somer. Ciel does a somersault, so it's called Ciel Somer.
That's all there is to it.
When we sent the list of skill names to French Bread, we had written "Ciel Somer (←This is serious)" down for this one, but apparently there was a misunderstanding and they thought the note in parentheses was actually part of the name. Really we were just trying to say that the name wasn't a joke, and we seriously wanted to call it Ciel Somer. Still, it was funny so we ended up deciding to use it anyway. Because of that, "Ciel Somer (Serious)" made its way into the game as a powered-up version of the move that shows up when you do a shield counter.
By the way, if you're wondering why this particular skill has such a strange name, it's because it’s a skill Ciel made up herself and not one from the Burial Agency. In short, she's the one that named it. Just thank God she didn't get to name any of the moves involving the Seventh Holy Scripture.

Corrosive Separation[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Corrosive Separation [Unusual talent], p.183

Corrosive Separation [Unusual talent]
Corrosive Separation. One of Tohno SHIKI's abilities as a demon hybrid. A curse of fusion by contact.
SHIKI is naturally capable of continuing to use his own body no matter what condition it's in, but his ultimate ability is actually restoring his own flesh by assimilating the flesh of others. In a word, it's the no holds barred version of an organ transplant.
Though SHIKI became a vampire due to being invaded by Roa's consciousness, this innate ability as a demon hybrid was already pretty vampire-ish. (Of course, in the end it's just making up for lost parts.)
The reason that Akiha attained some vampire-ish abilities after disposing of her rampaging older brother might have been because she also ended up plundering this power when she killed him.

However, it has no effect against Akiha.

Cremation Sacrament[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Cremation Sacrament [Weapon name], p.177

Cremation Sacrament [Weapon name]
An enchantment attached to Ciel's throwing swords.
The blades are engraved with spells, causing targets to burst into flames after being pierced. It sees very little use amongst the Church's Executors. It's because Ciel doesn't believe in Christianity at all that she makes use of these heresies with impunity.
The source of Ciel's sorcery is the knowledge she inherited from Roa. Aside from the Cremation Rite, there is also the Internment Rite, which turns the target into stone, the Mummification Rite, which desiccates the target, and the Excarnation Rite, which causes countless crows to descend upon the target.
Ciel herself is reluctant to make use of Roa's knowledge, but if it's for the sake of annihilating Dead Apostles she'll use his (taboo) sorcery without even a bit of hesitation.

Crimson Red Vermilion[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Crimson Red Vermilion [Term], p.178

Crimson Red Vermilion [Term]
The name for when those with inhuman heritage have drawn out their sleeping blood to the maximum possible extent. Once they reach this state, they are wreathed in a mirage-like haze and can never return to being human.
The name Crimson Red Vermilion is unique to the families ruled over by the Tohno household. Elsewhere, it is known as Ancestral Return.
As one with particularly tainted blood, the possibility that Akiha will become a Crimson Red Vermilion is high.
In Tsukihime, when her hair turned deep crimson, she was on the verge of this, though somehow she managed to bring her human and oni blood under control. Of course, rather than returning to how she was before, it's more accurate to say she switched to her "human" self while remaining close to the state Crimson Red Vermilion.

Dead Apostles[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Dead Apostles [Term], p.180

Dead Apostles [Term]
The bloodsuckers that make up the vast majority of the subcategory of bloodsuckers known as vampires.
Originally they were meals for the True Ancestors, who would prepare humans in advance for the times when their vampiric impulse became impossible to control. Of course, to keep them from escaping, the True Ancestors sucked their blood and brought them under their control.
These humans who had their blood sucked by the True Ancestors in turn became bloodsuckers themselves. Though, in their case it was mostly as a means of survival. After all, it stands to reason that the apostles serving the extremely long-lived True Ancestors must be possessed of similarly long lives as well.
However. At some point, after sucking the blood of others for such a long time, they began to feel a sense of superiority from the very act of sucking blood itself. They strengthened their abilities, their will, and eventually escaped from the control of the True Ancestors into the world of man, where they repeated the act of drinking blood over and over again to maintain their existences.
This is the origin of the bloodsuckers formed from humans, the Dead Apostles.
The Dead Apostles that escaped the True Ancestors the earliest are known as the 27 Ancestors. Though some of those 27 have been replaced over the generations, there are also those that still reign as Ancestors even now.
In the main story of Tsukihime, not only was Yumizuka Satsuki's transformation into a vampire caused by having her blood sucked by Roa, but she was also lucky (?) enough to have a body blessed with excellent potential, allowing her to complete her rebirth into a bloodsucker in under half a day. It wouldn't be wrong to say her potential as a vampire is close to that of the 27 Dead Apostle Ancestors of old.

Devil's Trumpet [Flower name]
Another name for Datura metel. Kohaku grows it in the back yard.
Despite being used for "that", it was nonchalantly, earnestly, and boldly put on display.
By the way, when Kohaku said she wanted to grow some cacti as well, she was probably talking about Peyote. Watch out, Shiki! It's another dangerous plant!
…Well, she really did start using cacti in Melty Blood. After Kagetsu Tohya, Kohaku established the "Magical Netherworld Psycho Garden" behind the Tohno mansion, which has been churning out ingredients for strange and eerie medicines ever since. T-This is bad! Somebody, stop her!

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Dream [Term], p.190

Dream [Term]
A convenient thing.
Kagetsu Tohya's key word. Normally Shiki is a person that doesn't dream. The reason that he started dreaming frequently after coming back to the Tohno mansion was not due to his own will, but because of outside influences.
Even the dream he had on the fifth day of the Arcueid and Ciel routes stemmed from the mischievousness of Arcueid's familiar rather than his own desire. Okay, okay, if that's mischievousness I'm all for it, hahaha.

Enhance[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Enhance [Person's name • Dead Apostle], p.176

Enhance [Person's name • Dead Apostle]
One of the 27 Dead Apostle Ancestors. The Knight of Vengeance.
A bloodsucker who only just became an Ancestor, he is known derisively as the "Single-edged Enhance Sword".
Although hostility between Dead Apostles is nothing strange, that only refers to power squabbles within a group. In other words, while Dead Apostles will fight for the right to become their own Ancestor's successor, there is no conflict between the separate Ancestors' factions. However, Enhance is an exception to the rule, and is hunting the other members of the 27 Ancestors themselves.
Even though he's a vampire, he is incomplete, and lacks the superhuman innate abilities possessed by the other Ancestors. On the other hand, his force of will and ability to take action is foremost among the Dead Apostles.
By nature, the immortal Dead Apostles are tranquil beings, but as Enhance is still almost human his vindictiveness knows no bounds.
He fights using the demonic sword Avenger, which he inherited (stole) from the Apostle he replaced, and a gun that was manufactured by the Church. Because the gun is an artifact of the Church, it corrodes his left arm each time he uses it.
If you're wondering what an entry like this is doing in this encyclopedia, it's because he got name-dropped in one of the routes, during a conversation between Arcueid and Ciel.
If there's ever a Tsukihime 2, it's rumored that the story will revolve around Enhance. Though, the author gets bored really easily so maybe take that with a (huge) grain of salt, yeah?

Executors[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Executors [Term], p.184

Executors [Term]
Inquisitors of the Holy Church. Those who eliminate heresies that do not exist in the Church's doctrine.
What makes them different from exorcists is that they do not exorcize demons, but eliminate them. If exorcists are those who drive out devils from the possessed, then executors are those who exterminate devils on the spot.
Not banishing, but defeating; not rescuing, but erasing.
They are more like professional killers than priests.
However, according to the Church, humans do not have the authority to defeat demons, because even demons are the creations of God. The name "executor" comes from the fact that the executors transcend that teaching, and act as God's proxy on earth to stamp out heresy. They are an army of believers, devised of by the 120 Cardinals supporting the Pope. It wouldn't be a mistake to call them the Church's greatest treasure.

Fujou[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKHIME Dictionary: Fujou [Family name], p.187

Fujou [Family name]
As their name suggests, they are a lineage of shrine maidens. Similar to the Nanaya, they pass down special abilities to their children. However, they do not do so through blood, but rather the transmission of skills and knowledge.
The woman who inherits the Fujou name is destined to lose her sight, for being unable to see the material world comes hand in hand with the ability to peer into the world of spirits. Hisui and Kohaku both came from a branch of this family, and unlike the Fujou, this branch did pass on their abilities through blood. However, Hisui and Kohaku's mother violated a taboo and the branch fell into ruin, which led to the two children being taken in by Tohno Makihisa.
By the way, it doesn't have any bearing on Tsukihime, but the picture below is what Hisui and Kohaku's mother looked like when she was young.

G Akiha[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: G Akiha [Person's name • Phenomenon], p.182

G Akiha [Person's name • Phenomenon]
The local specialty (?) of Melty Blood, and the Tatari's greatest (largest) nightmare. Miss Akiha, after being enlarged by the miraculous chemical substance Makikyuu X. It might seem like a contradiction, but she's still "small" despite being so big…!
She can use her giant fists to execute a hammer crush attack, and comes fully equipped with eye beams and a drill arm. If missiles fired out of the lobby walls, she would be absolutely perfect.
…That said, at the time there was an outcry that we had gone too far, and half the Akiha-lovers scolded us over it. Eheheh. Reflecting on it now, I can see what they meant, though. Back then, Kagetsu Tohya had just come out, which was mostly comedy, so the writer probably still had a few screws loose from that. Yes, yes, that must be it. If he had taken the time to calm down and think about it, he definitely would have realized it should have been G-Ciel instead…! (No, that's wrong.)
At any rate, when we first conceived of this, it was just a simple boss character version of Akiha with her pixels doubled. See, it was the writer's wish that Melty Blood have five final stages, and that each one have a different boss character. However, drawing up pixel art for five whole unique boss characters proved to be too daunting, and in the end we decided to settle for using boss characters that were just tweaked versions of the characters that already existed.
But, the Watanabe Seisakusho staff took that feeble idea and seriously ran with it. "If we're going to do this, might as well do something apocalyptic with it." Given that the writer is infatuated with apocalypses, how could he say no?
Oh well, this sort of random craziness is what makes Melty Blood what it is. And you know, if we can get away with this "G" nonsense, that means next time we can pretty much do whatever we want!

Originally G-Akiha was a boss nobody but Shiki could fight, but in this mode you can enjoy fighting her with whatever character you like. For those of you that play Street Fighter, I suppose it's something like Shin Akuma's stage? The competition to see how fast you can beat it is really intense.
With possible combinations like G-Akiha versus Vermilion Akiha, it's a world that doesn't really make a lot of sense. My biggest regret is that we didn't record any special lines for when you use Kohaku.

Half Moon Edition [Title]
The version of Tsukihime sold at the 2000 Summer Comiket. It was called the "Half-moon edition" because only the Arcueid and Ciel routes were included.
It's become something of a rare item at this point, and it came bundled with various extras to sweeten the pot.
For instance, a digital comic by Takeuchi, bonus artwork, a special trailer for the final release that would play after beating the Ciel route, a coupon for 500 yen off the final release, and a separate collection of setting material. Of course, the most notable thing it came with was a countless number of typos and omitted words.

Hanei Misawa[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Misawa Hanei [Person's name], p.189

Hanei Misawa [Person's name]
A first-year student at the Asagami Academy for Girls, and one of Akiha's roommates. Her nickname is Hanepin.
She has an easygoing personality, and is pretty large for a girl. This makes her something of a lopsided pair with the petite Souka, but according to all the other students they're a match made in heaven. Though Souka herself vehemently denies it, it seems that it's generally acknowledged that she and Hanepin are the school's best couple.
She is absolutely hopeless when it comes to keeping things tidy and in order, and her personal effects are always spilling over onto Akiha and Souka's desks. But even so, her dexterous fingers and scrupulous nature allow her to excel at crafting small goods. She receives countless requests from both students and teachers, which she inevitably accepts without hesitation. Because of this, she always seems to be busily working on some thing or another.
She appears in the Kagetsu Tohya side story "A Story For the Evening". She is the most therapeutic character in all of Type-Moon, and has a huge number of hidden fans. Also, this is supposed to be a secret, but it seems she actually has the largest breasts out of all the girls in Tsukihime.

Hisui[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Hisui [Person's name], p.187

Hisui [Person's name]
A sub-heroine in Tsukihime. A servant working at the Tohno mansion. Sympath.
She is a maid who sports an apathetic expression and an inflexible attitude. Though she seems to be the exact opposite of her older sister Kohaku in that regard, if you look carefully you can see she's actually demonstrating a wide variety of subtle expressions. Compared to Kohaku, who only ever wears an expression of "happiness", Hisui actually seems much more human.
She has been working as a servant ever since she was taken in by the Tohno family as a child. After Shiki was sent to live with the Arima, she began working inside the mansion, and stopped talking to people of her own accord. Also, because of what Kohaku went through as a child, she forbade herself from leaving the mansion.
Though, perhaps it's because her mental fortitude improved during the events of Tsukihime, but in Kagetsu Tohya she actually leaves the mansion of her own accord to bring Shiki his lunch.
She's a bit ashamed of it, but it seems that even though she tries her best to maintain conduct befitting a servant when she's in Shiki's presence, every once in a while her true colors slip out.
Just as Kohaku is incapable of cleaning up inside, Hisui's palate is hellishly out of sync with most people's. It seems the reason she never cooks for Shiki is entirely because she doesn't want to make him sad.
In the Kagetsu Tohya side story Imogirisou, she gets possessed by an evil spirit and demonstrates a strange form of martial arts. This was the inspiration for the Dark Jade Fist, her Arc Drive in Melty Blood.
Her super maid action in Melty Blood is a must see. The way her skirt flutters during her backdash is just… yeah.

Arihiko's older sister. Her nickname is Miss Strawberry.
Because Shiki has been hanging out at the Inui house since he was a middle school student, Ichiko could also be considered an acquaintance of his. Or perhaps it would be better to call her an existence he can't defy.
Though her way of life is even more self-indulgent than Arihiko's, she is a splendidly independent adult woman.
As far as Shiki and Arihiko know, she's a mysterious person who changes jobs about once a year.
Sometimes if something good happens she'll give Shiki a present to commemorate it, but invariably it's always something completely inscrutable. Still, since it seems to mean a lot to Ichiko, Shiki values them greatly.

Iron Plate Effect[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Iron Plate Effect [Unusual talent], p.184-185

Iron Plate Effect [Unusual talent]
A special way of using Ciel's throwing swords.
Though her swords are clearly designed as piercing weapons, for some reason or another whatever they hit is totally blown away. When Arcueid was hit with a barrage of them in the Ciel route, it was enough to send her tumbling from one end of the park to the other.
This phenomenon is called the Iron Plate Effect. It seems Arcueid assumed that there was some kind of enchantment applied to the swords that caused the force at the moment of impact to be multiplied dozens of times, but in reality this is the result of martial arts and not sorcery. It is nothing less than the Burial Agency's secret throwing technique. For the sake of tomorrow, hit the opponent like you're trying to bore right through them!

However, it seems that the monsters occupying the first and second place spots are unlikely to be displaced any time in the foreseeable future.

I want to go to the Crocodile Garden [Technique name]
Neco Arc's killer move. J214A. She attacks horizontally by… turning into a rocket!
It seems that there may be some connection to the technique "Farewell, Ciel-sensei! Our friendship ended in the Crocodile Garden!" that appeared in Neco Arc's command list in the third character popularity poll.
Also, this is totally unrelated, but all of Neco Arc's techniques are extremely powerful. Something like the True Ancestor Beam can't be fully observed with the naked eye. Of course, this technique is no exception – its fearsome effectiveness is seriously troublesome.
Incidentally, aren't there crocodiles in the Great Cats Garden…?

Kagetsu Tohya[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Kagetsu Tohya [Title], p.177

Ten Nights of the Verses and Moon [Title]
A continuation of Tsukihime. Placement-wise, it's a sequel, so it's meant to be enjoyed after the main story.
It's the story of a certain summer, revolving around the familiar, Len. It was released in the summer of 2001.
As a fandisc, it was an all-out summer festival created as a thank you to all the users who had bought Tsukihime.
We wanted it to be as fun for the players to play it as it was for us to make it, and looking back now that passion was probably the game's main selling point.
We tried to create an entire encapsulated world in the format of a visual novel, but unfortunately that led to a high degree of difficulty, which in turn garnered a lot of criticism. So, sorry about that.
Also, it was in Kagetsu Tohya that Kohaku's character began to run wild, a trend that continued in Melty Blood.

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Kara no Kyoukai [Term], p.177

Boundary of Emptiness [Term]
A serial novel published on the Bamboo Broom home page in 1998.
It was born from the archetype of Tsukihime's plot, but as a story it predates Tsukihime. Though on the surface it may seem that the only thing the two works have in common is "a protagonist with eyes that can see death", the connection actually runs deeper than that. The protagonist in Kara no Kyoukai is Ryougi Shiki, just like the protagonist in Tsukihime is Tohno Shiki. In other words, the "Shiki" in Tsukihime inherited his name from the "Shiki" in Kara no Kyoukai. While the meanings may be different, the protagonists are the same.
As of right now (2004), it has been published by Kodansha Novels and is currently in print.

Kiri Nanaya[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKHIME Dictionary: Nanaya Kiri [Person's name], p.186

Kiri Nanaya [Person's name]
Tohno Shiki's real father. The last Nanaya family head.
As a member of the Nanaya family that made their living by assassinating demon hybrids, he was a killing machine that started studying and refining the art of slaughter at an extremely young age.
His way of utilizing three-dimensional space was just like a spider climbing on a web. His preferred weapon was an iron club that looked like a drumstick, and despite using a blunt instrument he would dismember his targets as efficiently as if he had been using a blade.
Though Kiri himself had no doubt that he would live as an assassin his entire life, that all changed with the birth of the son he had fathered for the sole purpose of having a successor, and he retired from the business of killing.
But, it was already too late. Six years after he and his family secluded themselves in the mountains, they faced retribution from the demon hybrids, their former prey.
…However, just before dying, he was able to engrave a "sense of being alive" into Kishima Kouma, who up until then had lacked any sort of human emotions.

Knight of Vengeance[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Knight of Vengeance [Colloquial term], p.187

Knight of Vengeance [Colloquial term]
A knight that lives only for revenge. If there's ever a Tsukihime 2, he'll be one of the protagonists.
Of course, this refers to Enhance, one of the 27 Dead Apostle Ancestors. Because some part of him still exists as a human, the nerves in his right hand are destroyed every time he uses his demonic sword. Because he is a Dead Apostle, his left hand rots when he uses his Holy Burial Artillery Scripture.
It's rumored that the one who performs maintenance on the Artillery Scripture is none other than the Church's number one gun nut.
---Six vampires gathered in the English countryside in order to flush out the last True Ancestor. They were Dead Apostle Ancestors, one and all, bound by a pact of nonaggression. But little did they know that the Knight of Vengeance in their ranks was burning with ambition and treachery.
Suddenly, an ambush! It was the protector of the Princess, the god of death, Shiki the Killer. In order to further his own goals, the Knight of Vengeance had struck a deal with Shiki in private.
…Well, that's what was in the preview trailer during the school festival in Kagetsu Tohya, anyway. In reality, even the staff has no idea if anything will ever come of it.

Kohaku[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Kohaku [Person's name], p.179

Kohaku [Person's name]
A sub-heroine in Tsukihime. A servant working at the Tohno mansion. Sympath.
An energetic girl, that always sports a bright, unwavering smile. In the story, she was the servant assigned to Akiha, and was in charge of cooking, tending to the gardens, and managing the finances of the estate.
She has a natural cheerfulness about her, and just spending time with her is relaxing. On the other hand, she also has an extremely cool-headed and objective point of view – though she isn't even aware of it herself.
She was an orphan taken in by Tohno Makihisa together with Hisui, and spent her days confined in Makihisa's room. Then, around the time that Akiha entered her second year of middle school – after Shiki was put up for adoption – she found out about Kohaku's relationship with Makihisa and made her a normal servant working on the mansion grounds.
As a character, she represents "the lower ruling the higher".
Supposed to have been a sub-character to the bitter end, but could end up being the most popular of all if we're not careful… is what the staff thought. Wait, that's not right, hasn't there always been blatant favoritism?
In reality, when development first started there wasn't a route planned for Kohaku at all. What changed that, you ask? Well, after we released the Half-moon edition we read through the player feedback, and the one thing that almost everybody mentioned was that Kohaku needed a route too. So we caved to pressure and tacked it on at the very end.
Although she was a tragic heroine in Tsukihime itself, ever since then she's just been running around letting off steam.
In Kagetsu Tohya, she gathered popularity as a mischievous housekeeper, and showed the first signs of her budding talent as a mad chemist. Her exploits included building a secret room in the Tohno mansion's basement, wearing a hood and calling herself a magical girl, and even taking part in a bad end involving anesthetic drugs.
In Melty Blood, since she's more-or-less the Kohaku from Kagetsu Tohya and not the one from Tsukihime, her magical-ness received an upgrade. Though the unbalanced Kohaku is nice, the carefree Kohaku from Melty that does as she pleases is pretty nice too, don't you think?
…This is a digression, but apparently there are a lot of users that have been completely defeated by Kohaku's voice in Melty Blood. In fact, even the scenario writer was eviscerated.

She is a succubus that can enter other people's dreams, and is responsible for causing the wet dream Shiki had about Arcueid, Ciel, Akiha, or Hisui.
She does not appear in the original work, but her outward appearance is that of a young girl of about ten years old. She has calm expressions, and wears a black coat with a big ribbon in her hair. It's no exaggeration to say that her charm is enough to completely overshadow the other heroines.
She appears as a guest heroine in Kagetsu Tohya.
…Well, she wasn't so much a guest as she was the core of the story, actually.
Though at first it may seem that she is unable to speak, her voice box is intact and she can understand human language. Apparently she has simply decided not to talk for some reason. In Re-act, she only has a single spoken line.
Also, her pixel art in Re-act is, in a word, amazing. If she had a voice to match, she'd probably be able to conquer the entire world.
Because she never talks, it's hard to really understand her personality, but basically she's the type that likes to quietly spend her time alone. Just like a cat, she is haughty and fickle, but prone to sudden bursts of attention-seeking craziness as well.

Magecraft[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Magecraft [Term], p.188

Magecraft [Term]
A general term for the act of artificially reenacting mysteries and miracles.
Although each school has its individual differences, it is basically a mechanism for using the magical energy in the practitioner's body or the outside world, in order to reenact a predetermined phenomenon. The practitioner sends an order (command) to the foundation (system) controlled by their school, and a pre-made function (program) is executed.
The "electrical current" needed to send that command and execute the program is magical energy.
Though sorcery may seem almighty, it is basically the bringing about of mysteries by means of equivalent exchange. Accordingly, sorceries powerful enough to interfere with Nature will obviously require enough magical energy (mana) to fill Nature just to execute them.
There is a limit to the sorceries that can be executed using an individual's magical energy alone.
Also, sorceries that affect other people's minds and change the course of their thoughts require no physical compensation, but the practitioner will inevitably find their own thoughts being pulled in that altered direction as well. As the saying goes, before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves. Because the study of curses is looked down upon as unscholarly by the Association, they have fallen far behind the Middle East in that particular field.

Magic[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Magic [Term], p.189

Magic [Term]
A mystery distinct from sorcery. The final destination of magi. "Magic" is that which makes the impossible into the possible, for a given era. A "result" which can be realized with the application of time and effort is not magic. In the past, when civilization was young, most magi were also magicians, but currently only five remain.
…Well, that's what they say, but there are actually only four still alive.
The magician that handled the First magic already died a long, long time ago. Of the remaining four, two have disappeared, and two are bothersome people that pop up all over the place leaving trouble in their wake. As for why they are still commonly referred to as the five magicians regardless, well, that comes down to a matter of perspective. It's the difference between counting a dead person as somebody that no longer exists, or counting them as still being "alive" in a way, so long as some trace of them still lives on.

Magic Circuit[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Magic Circuit [Term], p.188-189

Magic Circuit [Term]
The foundation for setting up Thaumaturgy. There are two types, but here it refers to the quality within a human body that makes a magus a magus.
Magic circuits are responsible for converting life force into magical energy, and for connecting to the underlying grand sorcery formula.
Basically, sorcery is a formula that causes nature interference by starting up and stabilizing a "rule already established in the world" with magical energy. Or to put it another way, the "rule" is a car, and the "magical energy" is the gasoline that makes it run.
In order to start up sorcery, three things are required:
the necessary amount of magical energy, a key (password/spell/code), and magic circuits to inject the magical energy into the "engine".
If we assume for a moment that magical energy is electricity, then magic circuits would be both the reactor that produces that electricity, as well as the pipelines for running the system.
Because vital activity is indispensable to the operation of this reactor, there is a common misconception that a magus' body = magic circuits. However, though quite rare, magic circuits that continue rotating on their own even after the practitioner's vital activity has stopped do exist.
The reason that an individual's magical energy (od) will be regenerated even if is totally used up is because the magic circuits are still operating. But on the other hand, without magic circuits, magical energy (od) will no longer be generated at all.
They are spread throughout the entire body as pseudo-nerves, and can basically be divided into cores, and pipes that connect these cores together. The pipes are similar to the synapses within the brain, constantly breaking off and reconnecting, but the cores never change.
Strictly speaking, these cores are the actual magic circuits.
They are considered to be a sort of internal organ, that will never increase or decrease in number. Of course, extracting and transplanting them is technically possible, but just like implanting an extra organ into a human body it should go without saying what will happen if you try it.
Magic circuits, once lost, will never return.
As for what magi actually use these magic circuits for, well, that's covered in a different story.

Magical Girl Magical Amber [Unknown]
The (fake) amber magician. A mysterious hooded girl.
Her slogan is "Chemical! Magical! Medical!"
She appears as the guardian of the safe in Kagetsu Tohya, and also shows up while playing as Kohaku in Melty Blood. Ah, could there be some sort of connection between the two…!?
…In truth, she's a broom girl, not a magical girl, but that's neither here nor there.
Day after day, she throws herself into the manufacture of strange and suspicious drugs. She is a staff officer in the Tohno Mansion Basement Kingdom.
…Somehow, she seems like an even better fit for the Tatari than Sion, but the less said about that the better.

Marble Phantasm[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Marble Phantasm [Unusual talent], p.178

Marble Phantasm [Unusual talent]
Imagination Realization. As the name suggests, it is the ability to manifest anything you can imagine.
It is the ability possessed by elementals, which are the sense of touch of the natural world. By connecting their will directly to the world, they are able to transfigure the world into whatever environment they imagine. Of course, the level of manifestation varies depending on the scale of the elemental, and it goes without saying that only nature can be transfigured – things that exist independently of nature are immune.
In Tsukihime, Arcueid eliminated Roa by using marble phantasm to turn the layers of the atmosphere in the hallway into a vacuum, like a carving knife slicing up a daikon radish. Though she could not affect Roa himself, it was impossible for him to avoid the finely sliced atmosphere, and he was reduced to nothing but ankles.
(The gap above the floor was the result of a deficiency in Arcueid's imagination.)
Also, in the world of Tsukihime spiritual realms are not alternate dimensions, but rather exist within the world itself. Things like legendary lands and countries of eternal spring are the products of the imagination of whatever elemental rules over them. Consequently, it is possible for humans to wander into them by accident.
The castle in the mountains that Arcueid calls home is actually a product of her marble phantasm.

Makihisa Tohno[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Tohno Makihisa [Person's name], p.185-186

Makihisa Tohno [Person's name]
Akiha and SHIKI's father. He took in Kohaku and Hisui as tools to restrain his Tohno blood, and adopted Shiki for his own amusement. He was a mischievous prankster who diligently held on to his private papers. He had a strong, self-indulgent feeling of being victimized, and you could probably say that it was his weakness that invited tragedy into the Tohno family.
In order to protect his family (blood relatives) and solidify the Tohno's position he forged connections with the demon hunter organization, which was locked in a cold war with the demon hybrids at the time. By entering into a cooperative relationship with the demon hunters, he was able to gain sovereignty over the entire Misaki City region.
However, he was still unable to control his dread toward Nanaya Kiri, the bloodthirsty killer he saw as a youth while serving under a certain old man. So, after consolidating his power, he launched a surprise attack on the Nanaya village and completely wiped them out.
As for how he died, that was covered in the main story.
It was karmic retribution, an end appropriate for one who was in no way a bad person, yet caused so much harm.

Mech-Hisui[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Mech Hisui [Person's name?], p.189

Mech Hisui [Person's name?]
The Pleasant-type City Subjugation Weapon built by the mad doctor Magical Amber. A megadeus made to look like Hisui. Cast in the Name of God, Ye Not Guilty.
She is equipped with various armaments. Her primary motive force comes from her Magical Heart, while her secondary motive force is provided by a rubber band engine (like you'd use to launch a paper airplane). Without a doubt, this can be called a crystallization of super technology.
Though she is a mysterious, one-of-a-kind weapon completed by Kohaku after she became the Tatari, it appears that by Re-act she has entered mass-production.
…The giant Mecha Hisui that appears in her ending is something like a Mobile Armor, and the ending as a whole is a parody of Tetsujin 28-go.
During the development stage of Re-act, there were actually two versions of Mecha Hisui: Real Type and Super Type. The Super Type would have had stuff like a rocket punch, a super radio wave tornado, and even an erupting god finger. I really hate that we weren't able to use it. Maybe next time!

Melty Blood[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Melty Blood [Title], p.189

Melty Blood [Title]
A fighting game set after Tsukihime, jointly developed by Watanabe Seisakusho (French Bread) and Type-Moon.
It was the first time Tsukihime had voices.
It is the story of a certain vampire and a night of lies, during a summer different than the one in Kagetsu Tohya.
The stage progression is in the style of Darius. It seems that a fighting game that advances in such a manner had been something the scenario writer always wanted. Take the upper paths and you'll be treated to a serious story, while the lower paths quickly spiral into absurdity.
The game's subtitle is "Hologram Summer, Night on the Blood Liar". The original plan was for it to be about an executor who was a sort of rival to Ciel appearing to fight Arcueid, but once production started the sample game ended up being so amazing we felt the need to whip up a worthy story within "Tsukihime Canon" to match.
Of course, with a new heroine, one of the 27 Dead Apostle Ancestors, and even Arima Miyako, it was packed full of fan service, too. So, thank you, Watanabe Seisakusho! The amount of freedom as a fighting game is just great, and the mobility of the characters is off the charts. I hope everybody out there enjoys the pixel-art Tsukihime characters as much as we do!

Melty Blood Re-ACT [Title]
An expansion to Melty Blood. Though various aspects of the game were tweaked and upgraded, the biggest change was probably the addition of Len and Satsuki as playable characters. Honestly, it's more like an entirely new edition than an expansion.
The new arcade mode is similar to the ones in other fighting games, where each character is featured in their own short story. It's a festival for the cast of Tsukihime, but one different than both Kagetsu Tohya and Melty Blood. Just think of it as a collection of fighting game exclusive bonus stories.
The game's normal bosses are a bunch of scoundrels, and the hidden boss is… "that" person!

He doesn't have a single special ability to his name. A completely normal young man in every respect. Both his outward appearance and personality are plain. His trademark look is black-rimmed glasses.
Other than that, there's not much to him. Personality-wise, he's the prototype for Tohno Shiki. Although he isn't strong, he's definitely the strongest person of all. For some reason, he's extremely talented at finding things and nothing else.
Also, though their personalities are similar, Tohno Shiki is still a child compared to Mikiya.

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Arima Miyako [Person's name], p.175-176

Miyako Arima [Person's name]
The Charging China Girl.
A young girl that uses pretend baji quan, and (secretly) idolizes Shiki as her big brother. Currently a sixth-grader in elementary school.
Shiki came to live in her house at around the same time she started to become aware of her surroundings, and it seems that for her it was something close to love at first sight. Ever since then, she has been spinning around in circles trying to figure out how to get closer to him.
Because she's the kind of person that gets incredibly flustered when she's with the person she likes, she was always at a loss for words around Shiki, and expressed her frustrations by tackling him. Before he knew it, head-butts to his solar plexus had become just another part of Shiki's daily life. Though, after Shiki returned to the Tohno mansion it seems she was able to start talking a bit more.
In Melty Blood, she appears as a hidden character. Burning with a passion to bring back her big brother, she confronted the entire Tohno household on her own. It was one of Melty Blood's comedy routes, the showdown to determine the strongest little sister…!!
Though normally she doesn't have any actual battle ability, due to the Night of Wallachia's influence her pretend baji quan ended up turning into the real thing. It was the debut of Miyako's Amazing Baji Quan.
Her combination of a Chinese jacket with jean shorts made for a cute and wholesome outfit, but there were also rumors swirling around about "no pants" and "missing tights". Maybe there's even a rare win pose where she takes off her jacket?

Mystic Eyes[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Mystic Eyes [Unusual talent], p.188

Mystic Eyes [Unusual talent]
Typically, single-action sorceries possessed by magi.
They are created by changing the eyeballs, which by nature are passive receptors of information from the external world, into tools for actively influencing the external world. Humans within the user's field of vision will have sorcery cast on them without question, and should they happen to make direct eye contact the effect will be dramatically increased. In short, they are a fearsome sorcery trait – not only are they something that must not be seen, but simply being seen by them means you have fallen into your opponent's trap. Because of their conceal ability and capability, they are considered the mark of a first-class magus. Though, artificial mystic eyes are limited to effects on the level of charm or suggestion.
The most powerful mystic eyes are those which are possessed from birth. Things like Shiki's mystic eyes that can see the death of things, or mystic eyes that can turn someone to stone with a glance, are "psychic abilities" that cannot be reenacted even with sorcery.
Mystic eyes can be ranked by color. Normal mystic eyes shine red or green. Strong ones glow a luminous gold. And eyes that fall in the realm of gods glimmer with multiple colors, like jewels or rainbows.
By the way, though Akiha's "Origami" bears a striking resemblance to mystic eyes, it is actually a kind of curse. And despite Shiki's eyes being called the "mystic eyes" of death perception, strictly speaking they are a psychic ability – specifically, the "pure eyes" possessed by saints and holy men.

Mystic Eyes of Death Perception[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Mystic Eyes of Death Perception [Unusual talent], p.184

Mystic Eyes of Death Perception [Unusual talent]
The eyes possessed by Tohno Shiki, that can see the death of things.
This death is expressed as black lines and points. The lines are places where a substance breaks easily, and the points are death itself. If a line is cut, then even if the main body survives, that particular part will die, never to move again. If a point is pierced, then the individual will stop functioning completely. Also, while lines can be seen without consciously trying, seeing points, the source of those lines, requires extreme concentration.
Though they are said to see the form of death, strictly speaking it's more accurate to say they're reading the lifespan of a substance – the existential limit determined at the moment of creation. Now, this was already covered in the main story of Tsukihime, but lines cannot be perceived on things that can't be killed (destroyed) in the current world. It's probably because as a human, Shiki's point of reference conforms to the limits of the humanity of his era.
Originally, Shiki's eyes were meant to "see that which cannot be seen". However, after having two near death experiences he was somehow connected to (the Root), and his brain began to be able to comprehend death itself. Or to put it in other words, it is only by virtue of his mystic eyes and brain working together as a set that he is able to perceive death.
By the way, Shiki's eyes turn blue when he intentionally tries to see death. Seeing as how blue is the color of pure eyes, it's likely that Shiki's eyes were originally of that type.

Nanako[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Nanako [Weapon name • Name], p.186

Nanako [Weapon name • Name]
The elemental residing in the Seventh Holy Scripture.
Although Ciel calls her Seven, she was named Nanako by her temporary master of just a few days, Arihiko.
A young girl with a mysterious character. It's hard to say if she's noble or nasty. She can't help but lament the tyrannical treatment she receives from Ciel, but if she ever fired back she'd just get in trouble. Basically, she's a character at the very bottom of society. Originally she was the girl offered up as a sacrifice during the creation of the Seventh Holy Scripture, but after her death she merged with the holy beast used as the scripture's foundation and ended up with her current form. Her most distinctive characteristics are her blue, sci-fi bodysuit and her hoof-ish hands and feet.
Though she is the guardian spirit of the Seventh Holy Scripture, that doesn't mean that she's the guardian spirit of the Seventh Holy Scripture's wielder as well. The reason that she complies with Ciel's orders regardless is because Ciel is the first master she's had capable of giving her form. Manifesting a guardian spirit isn't something that can be accomplished without an excessive amount of magical energy, after all.
She's always grumbling about Ciel's violent treatment (of the Seventh Holy Scripture), but nevertheless she sticks to her like glue. In Melty Blood, she appears briefly during Ciel's stage entrance and Arc Drive.
By the way, in the third character popularity poll Nanako's Arc Drive was listed as "Holy Cross Burial Scripture", but it should be read as "anti-reincarnation".

Nanaya knife[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Nanaya knife [Weapon name], p.186

Nanaya knife [Weapon name]
A treasured blade of the Nanaya family, that Makihisa kept for some reason instead of getting rid of it. Of course, even though it's called a "treasured blade" it isn't actually valuable, it's just a sturdily-built knife. Though, mysteriously it has a complex switchblade design despite its considerable age. It is a high-quality good with the words "Seven Nights" carved into the handle, clearly marking it as property of the Nanaya family.
In Tsukihime, Kohaku brought this knife to Shiki saying it was a memento left to him by Makihisa, but in reality she had retrieved it from Makihisa's room of her own accord.
…Kohaku herself never looked to see what was in the box. Perhaps she was expecting it to jog Shiki's memory of his past due to it being property of the Nanaya…?

…Well, it's more like house arrest, really.
She regularly bullies all the members of the Burial Agency when they return from missions, and in turn they basically all wish she would just drop dead.
As the powerhouse whose job it is to reign in all the freaks in the Burial Agency, her infamy even reaches as far as the Association. Despite her young age, she is a monster that has already captured three of the 27 Dead Apostle Ancestors.

Neco-Arc[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Neco-Arc [Unknown], p.186-187

Neco-Arc [Unknown]
Ciel-sensei's student. Originally a feline, but it's hard to say if this thing can even be called a cat anymore. In class, she constantly acts up in retaliation for having such little screen time. Details are unknown, but it seems she wants people to think she's smart.
In Melty Blood Re-act, she finally made her debut as a boss character. Of course, we loaded her up with a bunch of ridiculous skills.
With the eye beams, "True Ancestor Beam", the vaguely familiar blast, "Opuba!", the warp skill, "Cat Out of Hell", the uppercut that sends the opponent flying into the heavens, "Dead Neco-ning", and many more, she destroys everything in her path.
Though it seems that she is the biggest small-fry in the Cat Kingdom, to begin with the Cat Kingdom itself is getting smaller every time it appears.
By the way, we actually recorded lines for Arcueid, Akiha, Len, and Ciel-type Neco Arcs. They were all pleasantly strange characters. Unfortunately, due to capacity problems we were only able to implement the Yuzuki Ryouka version. Still, if the chance ever comes around, I'd really like to debut the other Neco Arcs, too.

Nrvnqsr Chaos[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Nrvnqsr Chaos [Person's name • Dead Apostle], p.187

Nrvnqsr Chaos [Person's name • Dead Apostle]
The vampire pursuing Arcueid. One of the 27 Dead Apostle Ancestors.
The factors of 666 beasts are swirling around within his body, but it might be easier if you just think of it as him being equipped with 666 familiars. Because this is essentially like having 666 lives, properly speaking even a serious Arcueid wouldn't be able to kill him. Also, as one who became a Dead Apostle through sorcery, he has absolutely no interest in territory or building a faction. The only thing he cares about is completing his thesis.
Despite his huge, muscular body, he is still a scholar at heart, and becomes extremely agitated when he runs into a situation he cannot understand. As a result, he lost his cool in his battle against Shiki and ended up recklessly charging at him. Perhaps due to his abilities, he is becoming more and more apathetic and indifferent toward everything. Should he continue to live for another several hundred years, odds are he really will end up degrading into nothing more than a mass of chaos.
When he was still a human, his name was Fabro Rowan. He was a magus hailing from the Wandering Tomb, located in the northern Sea of Estray.

Purification[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Purification [Term], p.182-183

Purification [Term]
In Tsukihime, the Church’s method of dealing with the undead.
Dead Apostles… beings which were once human, but became bloodsucking monsters. In order to return them to dust, a religious symbol that they were familiar with in life is required.
The process works by driving the natural law from when they were a human into the vampire’s body, re-baptizing their former flesh, and returning them to dust. The conceptual armaments required to perform the ceremony of forcibly opening the composition of the flesh and locking it into its original state are called “Keys of Providence”.
To put it simply, a crucifix would be a typical example.
However, a crucifix will only be effective on vampires that were originally Christians. If the official religion when they were human wasn’t Catholicism, it becomes much more difficult for the crucifix to generate an effect.
On the other hand, if the vampire used to be a Christian, then even if the human under attack is not a believer the crucifix will have an effect on its own.
Of course, it goes without saying that the effect will be greatest if they are both believers.

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Magical Energy [Term], p.189

Magical Energy [Term]
An essential element for invoking sorcery. Also known as the primordial animus, and life itself.
It is broadly divided into two types: the greater magical energy (mana), which is the breath of the planet filling the world and nature, and the lesser magical energy (od), which is possessed by living beings (humans).
As far as quality is concerned, they are both essentially identical. The only difference is that the amount of mana in the world far, far exceeds the amount of od.
Because mana is the magical energy of "that space" which fills the atmosphere, magi can use it freely.
…Of course, the amount that can be utilized directly corresponds to the capacity of the magus – which is to say, the number of magic circuits they have.

Reality Marble[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Reality Marble [Unusual talent], p.179

Reality Marble [Unusual talent]
Intrinsic Field.
Originally referred to the alien common sense possessed by the beings called devils, but now also includes the unique boundary fields possessed by many people.
A subset of marble phantasm, it erodes reality and gives form to the user's imagined world. It is the sorcery closest to magic, and a forbidden art within the Association.
Unlike marble phantasm, however, the form of a reality marble cannot be freely adjusted. It is the manifestation of the user's one-and-only self, after all, so changing it with their will is impossible. On the other hand, since even things that are not part of nature can be influenced, perhaps it is actually even more amazing than marble phantasm, in a way.
Marble phantasm, which can change the world at will, but only has influence over elementals and nature. Reality marbles, which are limited in use to a single pattern, but force everything to submit to the user's personal rules. Though the methods are different and they are each limited in their own way, the fact remains that they are both powerful abilities that change the world.
…Properly speaking, reality marbles are only supposed to be used by elementals and devils, but given enough time it is possible for some advanced practitioners to complete a sorcery to give shape to their personal imagined world and create a reality marble of their own.
Of course, if anything that isn't an extension of nature like an elemental creates an alien world, the world itself will crush it. As a result, the upkeep of a reality marble requires a vast amount of energy, and most individuals are only capable of using one for a few minutes at a time.
Most of the 27 Dead Apostle Ancestors are capable of using reality marbles. Oh, and Nrvnqsr was able to escape the corrective influence of the world by using his reality marble within his own body. Way to go, Professor Chaos.

She participated in the failed subjugation of Wallachia alongside Sion, and faced Wallachia alone so that Sion could escape. Her fate afterward is unknown. She possesses the conceptual weapon "True Apocrypha Gamaliel", a gun-shield that superficially resembles a large stringed instrument.
Though it seems Sion thought of her as reliable, they were torn apart before either of them realized they had become friends.
During Vampire Sion's Last Arc, she attacks the enemy by recreating Riesbyfe's information. Apparently, since Riesbyfe was swallowed up by the Tatari, she was transferred into Vampire Sion when she inherited its power.
Also, though there is apparently a nun with the same name working at a certain academy for girls, it is unknown if they are actually the same person or not.

Roa[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Roa [Person's name • Dead Apostle], p.191

Roa [Person's name • Dead Apostle]
Full name, Michael Roa Valdamjong. A Dead Apostle.
Though the Dead Apostles themselves merely see him as a normal Dead Apostle, the Church counts him among the 27 Dead Apostle Ancestors. Known as the Infinite Reincarnator, he attempted to realize an immortality fundamentally different from that of the other Dead Apostles. Originally he was a priest of the Church, but for the sake of surpassing his limits he had no choice but to become a vampire.
He tricked Arcueid, the strongest True Ancestor at the time, into drinking his blood, and immediately became a powerful Dead Apostle. Then, by unifying the factions of those Dead Apostle Ancestors who had already been sealed by the Church, he established his influence. In response, Altrouge set out to put the newcomer Dead Apostle in his place, but by that time Roa was already powerful enough to defeat her instead. Of course, it was only natural. Not only was Roa an excellent magus in his own right, but he was able to wield the power of the strongest True Ancestor, Arcueid, at the same time.
As a result, the 27 Ancestors left Roa to his own devices. It wasn't until many years later that he was finally defeated by Arcueid and the Church working together. After that, he reincarnated into new hosts a total of seventeen times, locked in a never-ending deathmatch with Arcueid.
Similar to Nrvnqsr, the identity called "Roa" was fading even as he clung to eternity.
Though the Roa that appears in Tsukihime has a rather brutal personality, that's because he's using Tohno Shiki as his base. The original Roa was a calm intellectual.
…Well, he was still cruel and utterly selfish at heart.
He was obsessed by his thesis of eternity and was convinced he needed nothing else. However, the moment he laid eyes on Arcueid he was captivated, even though he should have seen her as nothing more than a tool. After that, Roa's plan spiraled totally out of control… though he himself never noticed.

Root[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Root [Term], p.179

Root [Term]
A term that has nothing to do with the story of Tsukihime at all.

Shiki the Killer[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Shiki the Killer [Colloquial term], p.179

Shiki the Killer [Colloquial term]
The state when Shiki's conscious mind goes blank due to the inversion impulse. Or, a possible future version of Tohno Shiki.
If there's ever a Tsukihime 2, he'll be a main character. Perhaps because the mystic eye killers alone have become unable to suppress his death perception, he'll always have both eyes covered by bandages.
Though the Nanaya Shiki that appears in Melty Blood is close to this, properly speaking "Shiki the Killer" is something that should stem from "Tohno Shiki".

Satsuki Yumizuka[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Yumizuka Satsuki [Person's name], p.190

Satsuki Yumizuka [Person's name]
Shiki's classmate. Her nickname is Sacchin.
She is a pitiable girl, who had been Shiki's classmate several times since middle school, but never managed to capture his attention.
She just happened to catch sight of somebody who looked like Shiki walking through town one day, and because of that ended up being bitten by a vampire. Afterward, she stalked the town at night as a half vampire herself, her body and mind crumbling, until she encountered Shiki and met her end.
Basically, your typical tragic heroine. She remained unrewarded to the bitter end, but I'd like to believe she at least received a fleeting salvation in her last moments.
As it happens, she had an exceptional predisposition for being a vampire. The fact that she was able to operate as a Dead Apostle less than a day after being bitten is totally unheard of. That she was only able to discover her talents after death… it's a little ironic, no? Exactly what you'd expect from the shadow heroine Sacchin.
Still, at her core she's a normal girl. Though she might be on the same level as the 27 Dead Apostle Ancestors as far as pure suitability is concerned, since her personality is still human it seems that she's doomed to be an eternal dropout.
In Melty Blood Re-act, she participates as a usable character for the first time, allowing players to enjoy situations that were impossible in the original story. Sion is her pen-pal and fellow back-alley dweller. It's a relationship based on the assumption that Satsuki was still alive when Sion first came to Japan.
The reason she doesn't have the corpse-throwing killer move that she demonstrated in Tsukihime is because the Satsuki in Re-act has still never killed anybody. Perhaps if there's ever a "full vampire" version of Satsuki, though, it will make an appearance as well?

弓塚さつき【人名】

Serpent[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Serpent [Colloquial term], p.188

Serpent [Colloquial term]
Roa's nickname. The Dead Apostles gave it to him, in reference to the way he lives on through reincarnation. Given that he dabbled in alchemy, it's quite fitting.
Of course, when you hear alchemy the first thing you think of is Sion, but Sion is an Atlas alchemist, which is something totally different from those alchemists that devoted themselves to Western sorcery. It seems that the Atlas alchemists don't think much of Roa for that very reason, even though they both subscribe to the common idea that "everything flows". Also, contrary to what you may expect, Sion too is possessed of this same elitism, and looks down on Roa on principle.
…Huh? Then are Sion and Ciel actually on bad terms…?

Seventh Holy Scripture[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Seventh Holy Scripture [Weapon name], p.184

Seventh Holy Scripture [Weapon name]
The conceptual armament that Ciel is authorized to carry. An iron hammer created by the Church in order to renounce the heretical doctrine of transmigration.
It was created by felling a miraculous beast said to consume souls, then using its horn as a key. The surface of the horn is inscribed with tightly-packed complaints about how "transmigration is really lame".
Since it's been almost a thousand years since it was first created, it even has an elemental living within it.
It was sanctified over the course of many years, but eventually fell into Ciel's hands.
"A horn!? That's not practical at all. The higher-ups are totally out of touch!"
Unable to hold herself back, she set about improving it, and because of that the Scripture's elemental ended up having the essence of its personality warped.
Before Ciel remodeled it, it was only effective against spiritual entities. Now, however, it has been transformed into a lump of iron that can pound a vampire to death with its physical attack power alone. It has a gross weight of 60 kilograms, and a maximum weight of twice that with optional attachments. It's a… Gatling scripture!?

Shiki Nanaya[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Nanaya Shiki [Person's name], p.186

Shiki Nanaya [Person's name]
Eldest son of the Nanaya, a clan of demon hunters that passed down ESP as their genetic inheritance.
The Nanaya had retired from the demon hunting trade to live a quiet life in the mountains. However, because Tohno Makihisa still regarded them as dangerous, they were raided and completely wiped out.
Shiki, too, was very nearly killed by Makihisa, but somehow he narrowly escaped death and was taken in by the Tohno family as an adopted child.
Though Shiki himself does not remember anything from when he lived in the Nanaya village, he did receive basic training before Makihisa attacked. This training was responsible for turning Shiki into a transcendent killer every time he was backed into a corner during Tsukihime… somehow.
In Melty Blood, Nanaya Shiki appears as Tohno Shiki's anxieties given form. He uses the Nanaya martial arts that Shiki should have learned, but unlike Shiki he does not possess the mystic eyes of death perception. According to Miyako, he is her "wild big brother". Also, perhaps it is due to Wallachia's influence, but he is prone to somewhat theatrical elocution.

Shiki Ryougi[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Ryougi Shiki [Person's name], p.190

Shiki Ryougi [Person's name]
The protagonist of Kara no Kyoukai. Able to see lines of death, just like Tohno Shiki.
She wears a traditional kimono paired with a leather jacket and high-laced boots.
Though she always carries a knife, her true talent is with the katana.
The last name "Ryougi" and first name "Shiki" both have an appropriate meaning. Consequently as a user of the mystic eyes of death perception it can be said she is several ranks higher than Tohno Shiki, who is pretty much her polar opposite. In fact, his personality is actually close to Kokutou Mikiya's.
For more details on this Shiki, please consult Kara no Kyoukai.

SHIKI Tohno[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Tohno SHIKI [Person's name], p.185

SHIKI Tohno [Person's name]
The true eldest son of the Tohno family.
He was always pretty talkative and brash, but after Roa surfaced he got even chattier. His having a different appearance in the Arcueid and Akiha routes is just a little bit of fan service. After all, the only real difference between the two is whether or not Roa or SHIKI's consciousness is stronger, but we thought it would be pretty terrible if player had to keep seeing the same face pop up over and over as the villain in a game as long as Tsukihime, so we gave them different sprites.
He is a handsome young man, casually dressed in traditional Japanese clothes. Somehow, he has the air of a haiku poet about him.
One of his abilities as a demon hybrid is a "death-resistant body". Just as it sounds, it means he has a body that will not die. However, this is not the ability to heal wounds, but the ability to reconfigure his body in order to survive despite his wounds. It is this ability to freely manipulate his flesh that allows him to use his own spilled blood as a sword by coagulating it.
…He is yet one more hapless victim of the Infinite Reincarnator, Roa.

遠野シキ【人名】

Shiki Tohno[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Tohno Shiki [Person's name], p.185

Shiki Tohno [Person's name]
The protagonist of Tsukihime. Afflicted with chronic anemia. Mister Glasses.
He is the kind of character that makes both friends and enemies without realizing it. His habit of collecting edged weapons is probably a trait left over from the "other" Shiki, from Kara no Kyoukai. Taking his glasses off for every single event CG is his charm point.
An unfortunate boy, who suffered through various ordeals in Tsukihime, was dragged into strange situations in Kagetsu Tohya, and had a terrible time in Melty Blood.
Because he lived true to his promise with Aozaki Aoko to "become a man in the manner he thinks is right", he developed into a good and upright person, but at his core he is actually comparatively cold-hearted. Or rather, no matter what happens, good or bad, he simply accepts it as it is. In a sense, this reckless way of life is similar to that of a hermit who has retired from society.

Shiki's room[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Shiki's room [Place name], p.180

Shiki's room [Place name]
It goes without saying, this is the protagonist Shiki's room.
Since Shiki is Akiha's older brother, you'd expect this to be a mighty fine room, but… do my eyes deceive me? It's even more barren than Kohaku's! What's going on!? If somebody unfamiliar with Shiki's personality (and the way he doesn't really keep a lot of stuff) saw it, they'd be convinced it was a case of the sister-in-law (Akiha) bullying the bride (Shiki). Of course, since Shiki himself seems perfectly pleased with it, there's no problem. Also, though you can't tell from the background graphic in the game, there's a fireplace and a desk in the room as well, among other things.

志貴の部屋【地名】

Sion[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Sion [Person's name], p.180

Sion [Person's name]
Full name, Sion Eltnam Atlasia. An alchemist from the Atlas Institute, one of the three great branches of the Association.
Melty Blood's guest heroine. Her trademarks are her purple uniform and long braid, and her weapons are Etherlite (a nano-scale filament) and the Barrel Replica (an imitation of the "Black Barrel").
Though she hails from the disgraced Eltnam family, she excelled within the Atlas Institute, and was even awarded with the name Atlasia, which marks her as the Institute's next director. However, she had long harbored doubts about her situation, and was troubled by the fact that she didn't know what the problem was.
As a result, when the Church petitioned Atlas for help with a vampire hunt, the angst-filled Sion volunteered her services. She confronted the Tatari, one of the 27 Dead Apostle Ancestors, and was ultimately defeated. Afterward, while suppressing her own now-vampire body, she evaded pursuit from both the Church and the Association and tried to challenge the Tatari one more time, but…
Her personality is totally serious and logical, and having fun doesn't come naturally to her at all. However, that doesn't mean she's incapable of it. Perhaps it's more accurate to say she's a chairman-of-the-committee type, who really does want to have fun deep down.
Though Melty Blood diverges into various routes depending on the outcome of each fight, in the majority of the endings Sion leaves town having awakened to faint feelings of love – her first love, in fact. Sadly, it was cut short before it even began.
An oddity among the Tsukihime heroines (who are, by and large, always at each other's throats), she is capable of getting along with everybody, in her own way.
Her initial design concept was "an alchemist and a soldier", which should be obvious just from seeing her in action. Her energetic movements are very fitting.
By the way, her miniskirt is so short you almost can't even see it at all. If I'm not mistaken, this is what they call the "absolute territory", yes?

シオン【人名】

Sougen Jinan[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Jinan Sougen [Person's name], p.182

Sougen Jinan [Person's name]
As the Tohno's exclusive doctor, he is Shiki's primary care physician.
It seems that he used to be a member of an organization that monitors demon hybrids, and was friends with Nanaya Kiri. However, he has since retired, and is currently some sort of shady back-alley doctor.
Since he knows the true nature of Shiki's anemia, he has been maintaining his health with Eastern medicine. It's not a cure, but that's the beauty of it. Of course, Shiki's anemia was never something that could be cured in the first place.
According to Shiki, he's a mad doctor. Though he is foul mouthed, he is also possessed of a strong sense of duty, and it seems he is acquainted with Miyako. Probably, she used to tag along with Shiki when he visited the Jinan Clinic while he was living in the Arima household. As his appearance suggests, he has an interest in Chinese martial arts, and may even be the one responsible for teaching Miyako the basic forms.

Souka Tsukihime[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Souka Tsukihime [Person's name], p.184

Plus Period | Tsukihime Data Collection

Souka Tsukihime [Person's name]
A student enrolled at the Asagami Academy for Girls. Akiha is her roommate and mentor. Her tone of speech is incredibly stern, and she always tries to be as succinct as possible.
Her outward appearance is that of a petite, charming young girl, but according to Akiha she has the personality of a handsome man.
An unparalleled lover of rock music, she slips out of the dorms at least once a week to go to live shows at clubs.
However, she's not a girl that's cool like a man, she's just a stylish girl.
She appears in Kagetsu Tohya, where she is the balance between her two roommates, Akiha and Hanepin. In the dorms she is secretly popular as a reliable but hard to talk to student, and despite her demeanor she is actually extremely caring.
Her parents' home is a temple deep in the mountains of Nagano. As landlords of the entire region, they are also known as the "mountain kings". Her love of rock music can be considered a form of rebellion against her family.
After graduating from high school, she plans to attend college while living together with Hanepin.

月姫蒼香【人名】

Synchronization[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Synchronization [Unusual talent], p.177

Synchronization [Unusual talent]
The ability to sympathize with other people. Putting it simply, it's giving one's own physical strength to somebody else. (Synchronizing with somebody else would be empathy.)
As Kohaku and Hisui are particularly talented sympaths, they don't just give their own physical strength, but also strengthen and support the mental and physical strength of their target.
Also, because this is sympathy and not empathy, even if the target is injured there won't be any feedback for the sympath. In game terms, it's like turning off collision detection.
The method of sympathizing varies depending on the practitioner. For some, it is possible to sympathize regardless of the target's will, while for others some sort of ritual is necessary.
The ritual is a switch on the spiritual plane passed down within a family, to control heretical abilities. It is a mental block implanted in the subconscious that prevents the ability from activating unless certain conditions are met.
…In other words, Hisui's family must have been a bunch of perverts, huh?

感応能力【異能】

The Holy Church[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Holy Church [Organisation name], p.183

The Holy Church [Organisation name]
The hidden side of the prominent religion whose name means "universal". In Tsukihime, it is referred to merely as "The Church".
Those who teach the word of God do not acknowledge things which run counter to their doctrine. Though the public face of the Church simply treats these heresies as if they do not exist at all, there were zealots within the organization who felt they should be dealt with more proactively. This enormous division that specializes in the hunting of heresy is known as the Holy Church.
They lead the devil exterminators called Executors, and exist for just two reasons: to completely expunge all heresy, and to properly manage those mysteries that are beyond human control. Naturally, they are on bad terms with the Association, which seeks to conceal sorcery, and the two have crossed swords time and time again. (At present the two have reached a tenuous agreement, and overt hostilities have, at least for now, come to an end.) However, their real enemies are the monsters known as "bloodsuckers". For the sake of combatting this greater threat, they have even been known to cooperate with the Association on occasion.
Also, there are various jurisdictions within the Church as well. The Burial Agency, which Ciel belongs to, are like the elite commandos of heresy hunting.
Arcueid, Roa, and Ciel all have deep ties to the Church, but since Tsukihime is set in the Far East outside of the Church's influence, it serves as little more than a backdrop to the story's events.

聖堂教会【組織名】

The Mage's Association[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Mage's Association [Organisation name], p.189

The Mage's Association [Organisation name]
An organization created to protect those who seek to learn sorcery, regardless of nationality or field of study. (On paper, anyway.)
Their mission is the management, concealment, and advancement of sorcery.
In order to protect themselves from that which would threaten them (be it the Church, rival organizations of magi, or the monstrosities that punish humans who break taboos), they accumulated military might.
In order to further the advancement (degeneration) of sorcery, they built research facilities.
And, in order to deter crimes committed with sorcery, they created laws.
Their headquarters is located in London, and goes by the unofficial name of "The Clock Tower".
It seems that in the beginning the Association was divided into three great branches, including the original associations that predate the Clock Tower. That is, the "Giant's Pit" of Egypt, and a cluster of associations based in northern Europe called the "Sea of Estray". However, ever since the Clock Tower became the headquarters, mingling between the branches has been on the decline.
Also, they are fundamentally incompatible with the sorcery foundation of the Middle East and the ideological sorcery of mainland China, and the three groups are currently feigning nonaggression. Sion is a member of the Giant's Pit, also known as the Atlas Institute.

The Twenty-seven Dead Apostle Ancestors[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: The Twenty-seven Dead Apostle Ancestors [Term], p.180-182

The Twenty-seven Dead Apostle Ancestors [Term]
The 27 ancestors who are the original source of the Dead Apostles. Currently, about half of them are being sealed by the Church.
As the 27 oldest Dead Apostles, there are those among them that have already disappeared. The reason that they are still counted as the "27" Dead Apostle Ancestors despite that fact is because whenever an Ancestor dies, one of his subordinates will inherit the position.
However, although proper Dead Apostles will create subordinates and work to expand their influence, there are some Ancestors who have no interest in any of that at all. Those Ancestors that used to be magi before they became Dead Apostles tend to be more akin to "seekers" rather than "bloodsuckers". In that sense, both Roa and Nrvnqsr could surely be said to have been brothers.
Though it isn't really related to the main story of Tsukihime, below is a brief introduction of the 27 Dead Apostle Ancestors. The missing numbers represent those Dead Apostles that have either been executed by the Church, or are currently "atoning".

1/ Primate Murder
Details unknown. Murderer of primates. The White Beast. Altrouge's demonic dog (the Beast of Gaia).

2/ The Dark Six
The very first Dead Apostles. The six royals of darkness. Currently resuscitating.
It is said that their revival will unite the 27 Dead Apostle Ancestors, but not a single Dead Apostle knows their true colors.

3/ Crimson Moon Brunestud
Ultimate One. Currently vacant.

4/ Wizard Marshal Zelretch
One of the five existing magicians. Also called Zelretch of the Jewel.
Despite being a Dead Apostle, he cooperates with the True Ancestors. Arcueid thinks of him as a sort of grandfatherly servant. He toppled the Crimson Moon in battle, but had his blood sucked at the last second and became a Dead Apostle. However, even after becoming a vampire his position as a magician stayed intact, and he traveled around the world to various countries where he would take disciples and uniformly ruin them all.

5/ ORT
Details unknown. Seems to be a mutant species that crash landed in South America sometime before the Common Era. As an attack-type organism, its power is on a completely different level. It uses the encroaching reality marble, Crystal Valley. Its appearance is similar to a spider's. The former 5th capture it, and was instantly annihilated. Afterward, it was confirmed to possess vampiric traits, and is now treated as an Ancestor itself.
Type Mercury.

6/ Rizo-Vaal Strout
One of the longest-serving Dead Apostles. Black Knight Strout. One of Altrouge's bodyguards. On account of Apostle recklessly tried to being inflicted with a curse of time, he is immortal. The True Devil Neardark.

7/ Disemboweling Forest Einnashe
A bloodsucker formed from carnivorous plants. It is a forest unified with a single will, and is very similar to a phantasmal species. Once every several centuries, a deep crimson fruit will mature deep within it. This fruit is the congealed mass of all the blood Einnashe took in over the years, and legends state that it has the power to grant immortality to whoever eats it.

8/ Fina-Vlad Svelten
White Knight Vlad. One of Altrouge's bodyguards. The Vampiric Count. Devil of Stratovaris. Captain of the Ghost Fleet. He has an interest in handsome youths, and only drinks the blood of other men. He and Rita simply do not get along at all. Possesses the reality marble Parade.

9/ Altrouge Brunestud
Hybrid of a True Ancestor and a Dead Apostle. Vampire princess of the Dead Apostles. "Black". Master of blood and contracts. Primate Murder's owner. Appears to be a 14 year old girl.

10/ Nrvnqsr Chaos
A living mass of chaos. A magus whose research ultimately led him to become a bloodsucker.

11/ Stanrobe Calhin
The Duke of Predation. Wraith. Also known as the "City Devourer". An invincible character whose density of existence will reach zero in about 200 years.

13/ ?????
Tatari. A Dead Apostle purported to exist. Only the name "Night of Wallachia" remains as a legend handed down through the ages.

14/ Van Fem
One of the longest-serving Dead Apostles. Dark Lord of the Business World. Puppet Master. He created seven great golem castles, and so is also known as "Van Fem of the Demonic Castles". A man of the world, who holds a prominent position in public society, and even worries about global affairs. The fifth of his castles, Matri, was captured by Parade during an engagement with the White Knight Vlad, and ever since then he has harbored a grudge against Altrouge's faction.

15/ Rita Rozay-en
A self-proclaimed artist. Indulges in a distinctive hobby even among the Dead Apostles. A second-generation Dead Apostle that inherited her castle from the Dead Apostle that made her, but since she was the official successor her situation is not the same as Enhance's. The very model of a noble bloodsucker, she indulges in a hell of debauchery and luscious depravity day in and day out.

16/ Gransurg Blackmore
Peng. The Black Wing Lord. A Dead Apostle known as the Moon Eater. Uses the reality marble Nevermore. A magus whose research ultimately led him to become a bloodsucker. Despite being a Dead Apostle himself, he possesses an ability that is strong against other Dead Apostles.

17/ Trhvmn Ortenrosse
One of the longest-serving Dead Apostles. The White Wing Lord. A magus who became a bloodsucker. The quintessential vampire. King of the Dead Apostles. As the official representative of the 27 Dead Apostle Ancestors he has the greatest influence – formally, at least. In practice, however, Altrouge's influence is even greater, and the two are constantly at odds. Also, Trhvmn was the Dead Apostle who proposed they start hunting True Ancestors. In a sense, he was the reason Nrvnqsr met his end in that far-off Eastern land.

18/ Enhance
The Knight of Vengeance, Enhance. A Dead Apostle who killed his master, and only just took over the original 18th Ancestor's position. Consequently, he is known derisively as the "Single-edged Enhance Sword".

20/ Merem Solomon
The Great Four Demon Beasts. Despite being a Dead Apostle, he is the fifth member of the Burial Agency.
Goes by the alias of Crown. For Ciel, he is something like a pesky senpai. A collector of treasures from all times and places. Probably the only reason he joined the Burial Agency is because he wanted to be close to the treasures sealed by the Church.

21/ Sumire
Aquatic Demon Sumire. Water Bottle. An oddball Dead Apostle that lives underwater. Traditionally, vampire folklore states that they cannot cross running water.
Rivers and oceans are like impassable barriers to them. Sumire has conquered this weakness, but in exchange it seems that it has become hard for her to move on land. Also, she's perpetually drunk. While this may make her seem pretty weak, in reality she has a strong enough compositional ability to break into the upper echelons. Among the Dead Apostles, she is the only one capable of using Marble Phantasm. If you put her on dry land and dry her out, her drunkenness will disappear and she'll be able to demonstrate her true power, maybe. Her outward appearance is that of an easy to get along with drunk lady, and she has a castle, but it's a completely abandoned husk. There's a rumor that she and Rita are on such good terms they could just kill each other.

24/ El Nahat
Background unknown. The artifact called the Book of the Stomach World. A peculiar vampire embodying refraction. Possesses the unique ability to almost certainly erase an opponent in one-on-one combat, but his own body is destroyed every time he uses it and requires several decades to revive. Thanks to that, he is currently sealed by the Church. Regarded as the Burial Agency's ultimate anti-Dead Apostle trump card, they only bring him out on rare occasions.

27/ Caubac Alcatraz
Dead Apostle of the Millennium Lock. A magus whose research ultimately led him to become a Dead Apostle. He was also a believer, just like Merem and Roa. He constructed a labyrinth to protect the culmination of his ideology, the Holy Scripture Triten, from outside invaders. However, he accidentally trapped himself inside, and so has not made an appearance for several hundred years.

EX/ Michael Roa Valdamjong
The Serpent of Akasha. The Infinite Reincarnator. Though the Church counts him among the 27 Dead Apostle Ancestors, the Ancestors themselves despise him as an "extra number".

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Jinan Tokie [Person's name], p.182

Tokie Jinan [Person's name]
Jinan Sougen's only daughter.
Despite her warm and cozy atmosphere, she is actually a foxy seductress who targets younger men.
She is Kohaku's elder fellow pupil in pharmacology, and an expert in acupuncture. She's even stood in for her father and medically examined Shiki's body before, so it goes without saying that their relationship was not an ordinary one.
She only showed up for a split second in Kagetsu Tohya, but she still managed to stir up some trouble. It may be that she was destined to become a schemer the very instant she became a pupil alongside Kohaku.
She is a devilish woman, who ruins men. Or rather, the man she marries will undoubtedly be content with his life, but also utterly unable to function as a human being without her. Mmm, well, it may not be what he always dreamed of, but as long as he's happy it should be okay, right?

Tonami Kugamine[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Kugamine Tonami [Person's name], p.178

Tonami Kugamine [Person's name]
Eldest son of the Kugamine, the Tohno branch family with the most material wealth. He was engaged to Akiha as a matter of convenience.
He is mentioned briefly in name only in Tsukihime itself, but in Kagetsu Tohya he displayed his awe-inspiring and manly figure.
His outward appearance is that of a good-natured, plump middle-aged man. His true nature, though, is quite different. He is a preposterous person, full of dark and loathsome ambitions. And also a total pervert. He's a voyeur photography buff, and loves girls' bodies (but not girls). In truth, it seems Hisui is more his type than Akiha.
Despite being related to the Tohno, the abnormal blood of the Kugamine is quite thin. Also, though the men of their family are all prone to obesity, their women are apparently extremely beautiful.

Touko Aozaki[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Aozaki Touko [Person's name], p.175

Touko Aozaki [Person's name]
Aoko's older sister. She studied sorcery under her grandfather, but murdered him over the shock of having the Aozaki inheritance usurped by her younger sister and fled to the Association. Unlike Aoko, her abilities as a magus are top class. She has even received a sealing designation due to her status as the world's greatest puppet master.
She does not appear in Tsukihime. However, she is a key figure in Kara no Kyoukai, which intersects with Tsukihime. Tohno Shiki's mystic eye sealing glasses originally belonged to her.
In retaliation for having her prized mystic eye killers stolen from her, she's been making an effort to buy as much stuff as she can under Aoko's name. Then, even the Association has entered the era of e-commerce?
…Even though there's a high chance of her location leaking out if she keeps it up, it seems that revenge against Aoko even takes priority over her own self-
preservation. Geez, Touko, you should try to be a little more mature.
By the way, her name shows up for just a second in Fate/stay night, too. Is she secretly trying to win the prize for perfect attendance?

Tohno[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKHIME Dictionary: Tohno [Family name], p.185

Tohno [Family name]
Suzerain of all the "demon hybrids" living in the region where Tsukihime takes place.
Perhaps because of their long history, the Tohno and all their numerous branch families are quite wealthy, and together make up a prominent business conglomerate.
Going purely by financial power, the Tohno are actually beaten out by the Kugamine branch family. However, to these people blood is more important than anything else, and as the inheritors of the most precious blood of all, the Tohno family naturally fell into a leadership position.
Allegedly, they are the descendants of a powerful family that intermingled with oni (not kishin – humans that became oni – but actual, born and bred oni) and ruled the land for generations.

Tohno Mansion Basement Kingdom[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Tohno Mansion Basement Kingdom [Place name], p.185

Tohno Mansion Basement Kingdom [Place name]
It's undeniable that the Tohno family has many secrets. However, this is not just true of their lineage, but even the mansion they live in.
With features like an underground room for disposing of those who have awakened to their Tohno blood, a dungeon that can confine people for a lifetime, and a research lab run by a mere servant, it really is a suspicious place. But most conspicuous of all is the enormous cavern beneath the mansion, the Tohno Mansion Basement Kingdom!
It's unclear who made it, and for what purpose, but it appears to be a miniature world that functions as a pseudo-absolute monarchy. Though it looks like a nuclear bomb shelter designed by a crazy rich person, judging from the equipment within it's actually the base of a secret society scheming world domination.
Its existence was confirmed during the events of Melty Blood, but later no matter how much Shiki scoured the mansion the path to the underground kingdom was nowhere to be found. How… eerie…

Touzaki [Family name]
One of the Tohno branch families.
Known as the Bone Masters, they temper their own bones into swords.
Though normally swords are forged from iron, the Touzaki present their own arms upon meeting a worthy recipient, and craft them a sword from the bones.
Their final and greatest work as blacksmiths is a bone sword with qualities that are superficially similar to the legendary mountain destroying sword of mainland China.

True Ancestor[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: True Ancestor [Term], p.183

True Ancestor [Term]
A singular existence amongst the bloodsuckers. Characteristically close to elementals.
They were created by the planet, which had no tangible method of self-defense against humans. Because of this, it could be said that they are nature's sense of touch. "If mankind is to be ruled, let man be the model." Under this premise, they were created with a mind and body structure similar to humans. However, there was a birth defect. The True Ancestors bore a flaw, the vampiric impulse. Probably, it's because the original that was used as a reference had contained that flaw as well.
Each and every True Ancestor is burdened with the desire to drink the blood of the very humans they were meant to rule. And, in order to suppress that impulse, they consume their own willpower. Those that can change the state of the world merely be thinking are instead forced to use almost all of those "thoughts" to restrain themselves.
But, everything has a limit. Unable to resolve the problem at its root, the vampiric impulse accumulates, until finally it becomes impossible for them to control with their power alone. True Ancestors that have become unable to control their desires fall into an eternal slumber. It could be said that this is the lifespan of those who have no end. Also, there were those among them that succumbed to their desires and began indiscriminately drinking human blood. Known as Fallen Ancestors, they are powerful to the point that it is said to be completely impossible for humans to oppose them.
Their creation was not influenced by human ideas, so they are not a type of Divine Spirit. They are an existence desired by the world, but not by humans. Because of this, they have gradually gone into hiding and dwindled in numbers. Though they have definite form, they can also be considered a kind of Counter Force.
…If you want to know what a Counter Force is, please refer to Kara no Kyoukai.

Tsukasa Shijyou [Person's name]
A student at the Asagami Academy for Girls. Her pet name is "Ika".
She was an honor student gifted with both intelligence and beauty, capable of accomplishing anything she put her mind to. However, she fell into the grips of obsession with the appearance of the brilliant Tohno Akiha, who outshone even her.
She appears in one of the side stories in Kagetsu Tohya. Perhaps because her timidity and feeling of being cornered were pretty cute, very few players actually ended up disliking her.
Also, she still couldn't stop herself from quivering in Akiha's presence even after the incident was resolved, but she did her best to muster her courage and resist the urge to run away.

Vampire[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Vampire [Term], p.178

Vampire [Term]
A general term for those that suck human blood. Refers specifically to the Dead Apostles, or those that have become bloodsuckers because of them.
The vampires in Tsukihime extract human blood to maintain their own flesh. If, during this process, the vampire injects their own blood into their human prey, that human will be unable to peacefully pass away. For a normal person, death will still find them before long regardless. However, on rare occasions, if the victim has high physical potential and the capacity of their soul is excellent, they will remain in the world of the living.
Afterward, their corpse is interred, and left alone for several years. During this time their brain melts, their soul is liberated from the cage of the body, and finally they arise as a kind of living dead called a "ghoul".
As a ghoul, they feed on the corpses sleeping in the graves around them to supplement their own missing flesh, restoring their physical body little by little. After many years of this, they will eventually regain their brain and intelligence. At this stage, they can finally be called a "vampire".
However, although this new vampire can move by their own will, they cannot escape from the rule of their sire's blood. Finally, after spending decades acclimating to life in the darkness, the vampire will begin attacking humans to create servants of their very own, while remaining subservient to the vampire that made them.
In order to obstruct this infinite cycle, the Church created the Burial Agency, Inquisitors that exist to slay Dead Apostles. The Burial Agency's goal is the utter eradication of all vampires, and the sealing of the 27 Ancestors that made them.

V Sion[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: V Sion [Person's name], p.187

V Sion [Person's name]
Sion after she has completely changed into a vampire.
The master of statistics and random numbers, who started carrying out the Tatari as Wallachia's successor. You could say she's Black Sion.
She was a hidden character in the original Melty Blood, but as of Re-act she's selectable by default.
In this form she does not use her Etherlite very much, preferring instead to attack with her own claws. Her Arc Drive, Cruel Blood, is Melty Blood's one-and-only act of bloodsucking. It's an appropriate Arc Drive for the guest heroine that represents Melty Blood itself, don't you think?
She inherited Wallachia's "Cut, cut, cut!", but her version is dignified and cute. Oh, and her casual win pose is pretty sexy, don't you think?

Warcueid[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Warcueid [Person's name • Colloquial term], p.191

Warcueid [Person's name • Colloquial term]
Arcueid after going into a wild frenzy and becoming totally indiscriminate with her rage. "Evil" Arcueid.
You can catch a glimpse of this in the Ciel Route, though it seems she still had enough composure to recognize Shiki.
The Tatari Arcueid in Melty Blood is technically more akin to Arcueid in this state than to the Crimson Moon. Her attacks have become more monstrous due to her personality, and she revels in cruelty. She's known for the way she shouts "Rip and tear, rip and tear!" as she pulls her enemies apart limb from limb with her own two hands. The root is the selfish princess Arcueid's former royal manner of speech.

White Len[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: White Len [Person's name], p.183

White Len [Person's name]
Len's shadow. She is Len's unused "active personality" given form using the remnants of Wallachia. The "her" that exists on the other side of the mirror, so to speak.
In Melty Blood Re-act, she appears as a boss. Her stage, Midsummer Snowfield, could be called Len's imagined world. Compared to the normal Len, she is crueler, more
vulgar, and ever-so-loveable. She is a contradictory idol, both sensual and chaste. Because the Midsummer Snowfield is Len's world, she is the master of everything in it. Nevertheless, it is completely at the mercy of White Len's power. The version of her Arc Drive that uses the snowfield isn't much to look at, but I could listen to that cute voice over and over.
By the way, this is just a digression but Re-act's subtitle is actually "Through the Looking-Glass".

Einnashe was a special exception as a subspecies of Blood-suckers.
Most of the Blood-suckers were weak against sunlight, but there were indeed Blood-suckers who were only active during the day.
The Dead Apostle of Tsukihime were representative of the Blood-suckers. They were Blood-suckers derived from mankind.

Burial Agency[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - talk. Glossary: Burial Agency [Organisation name], p.196

Burial Agency [Organisation name]
The Inquisitors of the Church who were given special privileges. However, since they were not actually responsible for stamping out heresy, they were also called Executors or killers.
Their policies had always been "shoot first and report later".
Faith was secondary, the only necessity for the job was the power to obliterate the heretical.
From the outside, it seemed like the ranks of the Burial Agency was filled with magi who loved to explore the taboo, people who enjoyed enslaving the captured heretics, gun nuts, and maniacs with insatiable bloodlust.
It consisted of seven members, with one on reserve.
The reserved member was always an exceptional candidate from the Church, but it kept changing because the person kept dying during missions.

Ciel's Immortality[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - talk. Glossary: Ciel's Immortality [Circumstance], p.198

Ciel's Immortality [Circumstance]
After the obliteration of Roa, Ciel lost her characteristic immortality.
Ciel naturally reverted to having a body that would "die if killed" since the World no longer needed to kept her alive to sustain Order.
However, Ciel was still tough. No matter what, Ciel's body was still the one that "survived" after being killed by Arcueid and abandoned by Roa's soul. Its power of regeneration was exceptional.
Still, she would not resurrect if killed. In order to kill someone who could regenerate like Ciel, it was best to destroy the brain, where the Magic Circuits converge.

Einnashe[]

Einnashe [Person's name]
A member of the Twenty-Seven Dead Apostle Ancestors. Number Seven.
Most Dead Apostles were concerned about balancing their needs for blood and the sustainability of the society, but there were also Dead Apostles with values unchanged since the Middle Ages and sucked blood with reckless abundance.
Einnashe was such a Dead Apostle.
However, due to its peculiar nature, it was difficult to eliminate it. As a result, it was currently siphoning blood without control.
It was thought to be a Reality Marble.

Forte [Name • Colloquial Term]
A magus of the Association.
A rare magus who experienced gruesome melees such as protecting Seal-Designed Magi and recovering grimoire.
Forte favoured spells called Aero Strikes, and the sword acted as the magical staff.
There were three orifices on the body of the sword, thus the sword was not quite fit for slashing. The purpose of the orifices was to generate sound. Slashing the sword generated a resonant effect, producing an invisible impact on the target.
She looked like a blade-wielding swordsman, but this swordsman performed her swordplay hundreds of meters away from her opponent.
The oldest daughter of a mage lineage of many generations. It seemed like she encountered Aozaki, who also shared the Wind Element, several times.

Merem Solomon[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - talk. Glossary: Merem Solomon [Person's name], p.197

Merem Solomon [Person's name]
The Four Demon, the Great Beast.
Burial Agency Number Five. His other name was Crown.
He was a Demon-user who wielded the imaginary beasts called the Four Great Beasts.
He was also one of the Twenty Seven Dead Apostle Ancestors.
On the surface, he played the role of a priest with the magical beast of his left arm. He really looked like a boy of about twelve.
The child was whimsical, sometimes he was very kind, while others he was cruel.
Originally he was a Divine Child worshiped as a living god by a small tribe.
Not only did he have the special power to communicate with animals, he was also able to give shapes to the selfish wish of humans. Because of his powers, the tribesmen severed his limbs and placed him on an altar since he was a child.
It was unknown if he would eventually become a god if he kept living like that, but a passing True Ancestor intervened.
After that, the youth became the Dead Apostle of the True Ancestor and was given the name Solomon. He became one of the oldest Dead Apostles.

Magical Energy[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - talk. Glossary: Magical Energy [Term], p.194

Magical Energy [Term]
The source that powered all magecraft, analogous to gasoline.
There were many names for it. For example, the magical energy in the atmosphere was called Mana. The meaning of Mana was approximately the same as that in the Polynesian culture. Also, Ether was not a form of Magical Energy as it was something else.
The Magical Energy in this story included Mana and the Magical Energy generated by magi themselves.
The difference in magnitude between the Magical Energy that permeated the natural environment and the Magical Energy generated by an individual was so great, it was foolish to compare the two.
Since the atmosphere in the Engulfing Forest was under Einnashe's control, one could not utilize the Magical Energy of the environment. As a result, most magecraft could not be activated, a magus could only activate very small-scale spells that utilize an individual's internal storage.
As an aside, this thing called "an individual's Magical Energy" as used by Blue in a foolish yet clever manner. To use a simile, it was like driving a car for 1000 km on 1 L of gas.
Also, the capacity of Ciel was ridiculously large. If a regular magus' gas tank was 40, then Ciel's was more than 4000. She truly deserved the name Miss Glutton.

Princess[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - talk. Glossary: Princess [Name • Colloquial Term], p.198

Princess [Name • Colloquial Term]
The person Merem called Princess. Needless to say, it was that person.
To Dead Apostles, she was the gate to hell, but Merem was quite fond of her.
Merem seemed to assist the Princess in chores such as trading gold for money, booking plane tickets, etc.
The Princess did not really know what to do with Merem's unconditional affection, but without him, she would have much trouble roaming around the world.
During this story, she was peacefully slumbering in her hideout.

Shiki the Killer [Colloquial Term]
The person Merem called Shiki the Killer. Needless to say, it was that person.
One year after the story of Tsukihime, he gradually became a rumour. Such was the fame of this person.
He was still the same fool with a knife-fetish.
By the way, he still kept the whimsical Princess company while ceaselessly complained. It seemed he came all the way to Germany not because of the whim of the Princess, but due to the tip of some third party.

The Engulfing Forest[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - talk. Glossary: The Engulfing Forest [Colloquial Term • Title]

The Engulfing Forest [Colloquial Term • Title]
The common name of Einnashe. It was also called the Sentient Forest.
A magical creature that was active every fifty years. It was a blood-sucking demonic forest that not only targets humans, but also other creatures that dared to tread into it.
The forest was filled with instruments of death. The tree branches were sufficient to wound creatures even when still, but while Ennashe was active, they all assaulted with the intent to kill. One can only imagine the view of such an alien realm.
During periods of activity, blood began to perfuse all the branches and roots. They entire forest flashed dark red. The scenery could be said to be Hell itself.
It was thought to be a Reality Marble.

The Twenty Seven Ancestors[]

[v] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - talk. Glossary: The Twenty Seven Ancestors [Term], p.195

The Twenty Seven Ancestors [Term]
The oldest 27 Dead Apostles.
However, some had already been succeed by the next generation of Dead Apostles. Nowadays it mostly referred to the distinct factions that existed among the Dead Apostles.
The Ancestors established their kingdoms consisted of Territories, Dead Apostles, and the Dead. However, some exceptional Ancestors had neither a Territory nor coven.
The Vampires who were subordinates of True Ancestors favoured Territories, but those Ancestors who became Vampires as a culmination of pursuing magecraft had very little interest in such power.
The Ancestors were non-aggressive against one another. At the present, there were two main factions.
In some sense, they were an organization with power that rivaled the Church and Association.
